Dan Tana's West Hollywood Reviews from The Last Year
Beware! Not as great as you might think!
I ordered the shrimp scampi. Unfortunately, the dish lacked any flavor and is prepared like a soup with noodles. Where’s the butter flavor? None! The menu does not explain how this dish is prepared. Our initial greeter at our table who took our order is one of the most unfriendly waiters I have encountered in a long time.

Such amazing food!!! Went for a birthday dinner and everything was delicious. Service was a touch slow, but they were extremely busy. Appreciated the ambiance and the patio.

Iconic! Legendary! Hollywood! First- Reservations a MUST if you go during prime time. Okay, you might get lucky and if the host likes you, you may (or may not) get a seat at the bar and have your meal there. Second- Don't be late! there is a 15 minute grace period but anything more than that, better give them a call Third- Establishment is not large so expect a packed house. You never know who you will see there Fourth-Menu short, sweet, to the point. Steakhouse pricing so don't be sticker shocked Fifth- Great martinis - Old school style We had linguine and clams (5 STARS), Chicken Parmesan (4 stars) and the Chicken parm comes a pasta side smothered with marinara sauce, Cannoli (5 stars) 1 order fed 3 of us. The table is served with warm french bread!!!! Don't fill up on the bread because each entree is HUGE. Street parking available if you are willing to walk or they have Valet ($16 for 2 hours) The staff, starting with the Valet is your typical Old School Hollywood... Definitely legendary. IF I go back there, I will order the clams iinguine for sure. I'd get the first seating OR the last seating.... Happy eating....

Est. 1964- You can just feel the vibes of the famous luminaries who have passed through this Classic LA restaurant. Dan Tana's is tiny, but it's mark on Hollywood culture is enormous. It's tough to get a table here, and It's even harder to get a seat at the bar. Both are usually taken over by regulars. But, with a 10 day advance reservation, we were able to get a booth for my first visit at Dan Tana's, and we had an excellent dining experience. Fried Ravioli Steamed Clams Homemade Lasagna New York Steak Martini's Everything we tried was very good. Dante did a nice job of keeping the Martini's flowing, and the staff made sure that our table was well maintained. Dan Tana's is an experience. For me, it's not a menu that I would crave by its self, but it is an evening which I would be happy to repeat. Also, they don't add any hidden fess to the bill. The coup de grâce is to eat here, and then see a show next store at The Troubadour. That's what we did, and we will do it again.
Dan Tana’s ✅
This was my second time in West Hollywood, and I took the opportunity to check out Dan Tana’s with my family. I love venues enriched in Hollywood history, and this one had plenty of hype. The waitstaff were great, and I really liked the old-school Hollywood feel. The food was really good but definitely on the pricier side—I’m guessing that’s the old Hollywood nostalgia tax. Initially, they put us at an outside table, but I requested an indoor booth, and they happily accommodated. What makes this place special is the history of the venue, and I left with a smile on my face, happy I visited.

Best food ever! You can savor the flavors and enjoy each bite. The salad is to die for, as well as the garlic cheese bread. It's hard to be hungry for the main course, but you can't go without it. Loved the chicken Parmesan and family atmosphere.

It's not a fancy place, but the people definitely looked fancy. We ordered fried calamari and chicken parmigiana. Honestly the food was disappointing. The "must order" chicken parm had a weird sweetness almost like there was some pancake syrup in there or something. I found that off-putting. It's also very expensive for what you're getting. The chicken parm was like $45 for a normal sized portion. Go for the people-watching or to check out a famous old school "Hollywood" joint, but don't expect anything from the food. Valet parking is $16-20.

and I have patronized quite a few of the classic LA eateries like Musso & Frank (review: https://yelp.to/p8t0hRAH4D) and Formosa Cafe (review: https://yelp.to/ZVurO7KxPU). Founded in 1964, Dan Tana's is not nearly as old, but I was intrigued when I saw the restaurant on our last WeHo visit when we saw a show at the Troubadour next door. So when we returned to WeHo for PRIDE last month, I decided to make a 5PM dinner reservation. Even at that hour, there were quite a few people waiting outside, mostly white and middle-aged. The restaurant was a yellow bungalow, quite small inside with a bar that was already filled with regulars. The decor was old-school - red walls with wood paneling, Chianti bottles hanging from the ceiling, dark red naugahyde booths. We managed to score a booth. As we were reviewing the menu, we experienced sticker shock. Lamb Chops for $95. Lobster Tail for $85. New York Steak for $79. Even Linguine with Clams cost $49. What felt initially like a family-friendly Italian restaurant suddenly became an upscale ristorante banking on its celebrity connections. We crinkled our noses as we selected our dishes with some trepidation. We started with the $12 Fresh Green Salad, which was pretty basic with iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber slices, and exactly one Kalamata olive, all of it drenched in oil & vinegar (photo: https://yelp.to/IfIJg66M5Y). The $21 Caprese Salad was unfortunately a mess - three tomato slices alternating with fresh mozzarella pieces (not slices), sprinkled with chopped basil, and drowning in balsamic and olive oil (photo: https://yelp.to/lKWZkdOqm2). We both went with pasta dishes because they were more within our price range. Jamie ordered the $34 Spaghetti with Meatballs (it came with two big ones - photo: https://yelp.to/a-G6AdiVNU), while I went for the same priced Spaghetti Carbonara (photo: https://yelp.to/NIP6f6FugG). Old school favorites for sure, but there was nothing outstanding about the execution. They were simply and blandly filling. No dessert for us. That was enough. FOOD - 3 stars...no standouts here, and the main dishes were exorbitantly priced AMBIANCE - 3 stars...old school Italiano decor seems at odds with the prices SERVICE - 4 stars...the longtime staff were appropriately gregarious TOTAL - 3 stars...not quite the classic LA dining experience we were looking for RELATED - Exploring WeHo? Here's my collection of places I've patronized and reviewed: https://bit.ly/3TBgdOP
So here for dinner at 5pm res.
Ordered the soup both came stone cold. Told that never happens here. They heated it up in a microwave. You can tell when the middle is hot. . Ordered the chicken Caesar salad to split and when the waiter put my mom's plate down a piece of chicken jumped off her plate and he did nothing. Over priced and food is a 5-6. Got the bill and splitting the salad with chicken was $50 for a salad with chicken to split. over priced and too many wait staff for no reason.
Ah, the hallowed halls of the famous Dan Tana's.
.. not to be confused with Santana's There were no guitar solos or Scientology leaflets anywhere. Ok, back to the review. We were a group of 10 savage Vikings who came ashore to... wait... no, we were a group of 10 there to celebrate a birthday. Approximately age of us was 50 years old. Still attractive... move a bit slower. Anyway, I'll start with our waiter. His name was Chip and he was a knowledgeable hoot. Really funny. Great energy. An asset. Keep him. Even the other table staff were great. Efficient. Moved like ninjas. Ok, on to the food. I had never been there before and what I'm about to tell you is that I am not psychic. When we walked in and I saw the red checkered tablecloths on the table I was certain we would be blessed with some table bread and little aluminum wrapped pats of butter. I grew up in NY so this is what you are taught in schools. Not a lie. I personally had a simple penne aribiatta. It was really good and actually had some kick. Most restaurants lie about this. Not DT's. Also ordered by the table was the veal parmigiana, the chicken parmigiana, spaghetti, Caesar salad, beef ravioli and the fried calamari. Surprisingly, it's not annoying to hear "Ooh... yum...man this is good...mmmmmm.... This is yummy'!" from 9 other people talking at the same time. Great portion sizes as well. The drinks were also pretty stiff. My mother in law was sufficiently tipsy and was a darling the entire time. She didn't punch anyone. So yes, Dan Tana's... I like you. We like you. We will be in you again. Thanks for a good time!
I have heard of Dan Tanas for so long that it's about time
I have heard of Dan Tanas for so long that it's about time I tried it!! Wow! The difference between the outside and then walking into Dan Tanas is vast! In the best of ways! The room is perfectly dim....the waiters have a great sense of humor (I'm glad my dining companions did too.) and know their stuff! They had an answer for EVERYthing!! I had the gnocchi and tried eggplant parm! Excellent portion and some of the better that I've had. We started with Cesar Salad and that was the greatest I've ever had. My biggest surprise...the cappuccino ice cream: out of this world! We had the best time. Word of warning: it gets loud and crowded but if u r ok, then it is an excellent experience
Embarrassment to Italian cuisine and culture
If your idea of good Italian fare is Olive Garden; if you enjoy making a reservation weeks in advance only to wait an hour to be seated and another hour for your food to arrive; if you like rude, seemingly inebriated waiters; if you enjoy a menu that lists items only by name with no mention of ingredients---then Dan Tana's is the place for you! This place was fun way back in the day, but now it's simply an embarrassment. The entry is jammed---guests that are known by the hosts are seated before guests with reservations, and if you slip the host a twenty, you get right in. Did I mention the valet lot is too small and always full? (Good luck trying to find parking in WeHo!) Dan Tana's is anything but Italian---the food, the service, the lack of generosity and grace are all 'Cafone'----ignorant, boorish, and classless.
Better choices out there
Made reservation over 1 month ago. Seats were available, my family and i were escorted down the dark corridor to dirty carpet . Snippy waiter. that's why we left him 5.00. Dirty outside carpet. Worn furniture. Sup par spaghetti and meat balls. They will send the nobodies outside to eat and look at dirty carpet. Not worth it

Nasty bathroom, nasty carpeting awful service! Seating of people of color. Prejudice service, awful waiters and dirty outside carpet. Wouldn't recommend at all.
Unexpected poor meal
After waiting 30 minutes past our reservation time, we were seated outside, opposite a doorway to the bathroom, under 2 heat lamps and a bright light. Requested new table, waited another 15 minutes before being seated inside. Got shrimp scampi appetizer $28,; came with 4 shrimp. The “George Clooney” veal main dish was breaded, hard and not edible - sent back. Overall food quality was fair, and waiter a bit rude with service lacking. Would not recommend.
I just love Dan Tana's.
The vibe, the old school-ness, the way you feel when you walk inside. So much feeling. And honestly, hands down the best Caesar salad and Chicken Parm in LA. Fight me.
Bathroom floor was as shown.
Service was awful. Waiter talked down and double talked concerning methods of payment. Indoor carpet in outside seating was filthy and worn. Caution food and ambience was subpar.

If you want the best spicy penne arrabiata in town, and a bartender who knows how to make a proper martini, this is your spot. No messing around with tiny portions or trendy fusion foods or artfully arranged tiny plates here, just spectacular Italian food in generous proportions and good solid drinks.
Old school Italian
Always delicious restaurant in West Hollywood. Old school with amazing chicken parm and gnocchi with blush sauce. The desserts could be better . Great atmosphere!
This was the worst Italian restaurant I have ever
This was the worst Italian restaurant I have ever experienced. First off the older brunette hostess lady doesn't greet you when you come in just waits for you to say you have reservations. She sat us in the back patio although we had reservations for me and my boyfriends anniversary. She laughed in our faces after we asked to be sat inside. Completely ruined our night. The food was mediocre the chicken parm was inedible. This place needs to close down or get a complete new staff. What a waste of time & money . Completely overpriced we were better off eating at Olive Garden . Complete crap. The Dan Tana legacy is dead. Don't waste your time or money here , such a let down especially for our anniversary.

Terrible food, staff sucks , stay away from this has been restaurant, I had better food in a pizzeria. The hostess is rude. I'll never come to this restaurant ever again they act like they're above everybody. Meanwhile, there are so many better Italian restaurants in Los Angeles. Don't waste your time or money here. Their time is done.
One of the best Italian meals I have ever had.
The food is hot, fresh, and unique. All the dishes are signature Italian, which reminds me of my father and his family who are Italian. The wine list is great, and the service is top notch. My daughter loved the bread and butter!! Ask for Parmesan cheese and olive oil with the bread!

Dan Tana's had the most fresh and authentic Italian food I've ever had. We celebrated my daughter Birthday there last night. We had never been, but it definitely met all our expectations. The service and ambiance was completely on point! I would definitely recommend

This is one of thee classic Los Angeles restaurants and for good reason. The food is great, the atmosphere is festive, the waiters are historic, the star-gazing almost guaranteed. And the maitre'd got us a good table inside, after we were placed in the back patio on a rainy night-- that was incredible. Everything clicked. We started with a by-the-book excellent martini. Then everyone in our party ordered an entree: a superb eggplant parm, classic chicken cacciatore, spaghetti carbonara (my favorite), and the George Clooney Veal Milanese the size of a place mat. Entrees come with a requisite side of spaghetti. Our waiter was very attentive, with a permanent smirk and just the right amount of attitude. We brought our own wine (the corkage was decent) and the waiter knew the exact type of glass to use-- impressive. And yes, we had a star sighting (Sofia Vegara). A great experience all around.

Imagine going to a well known LA restaurant for a birthday, bringing expensive bottles of wine, only for food come out after an hour and a half and then be blamed by the staff for not ordering more appetizers or salads. Clearly the staff are on one, because there's no way a restaurant can't provide enough wine glasses and still charge a corkage fee. Also, how can you serve food about 10 minutes before closing (we had ordered at least 1.5 hours before and then try to rush your customers out when it's your fault for serving the food so late?

Our reservation was for 7:30pm for a party of 3 - we arrived early and yet did not get seated until 8:25pm. Meanwhile everyone around us and those who arrived after got seated earlier, while we were left waiting for an hour. Had high expectations considering the great service reviews, but unfortunately felt less than during our experience there and was disappointed. No compensation was given for the objectively long wait time, and that too for a small party. Unfortunately left disappointed with the service.
Popular old school WeHo Italian eatery
Classic West Hollywood dining destination although be prepared to be whisked back in to circa 1975. It's been around forever and sure feels that way. The space is extremely small and intimate and not always in a good way. If you get a table that lines up adjacent to the bar, you'll likely be sitting literally up against the buts of those just standing there likely waiting for their tables - 3 people deep. It's super annoying and frankly skipping or waiting for a different table - trust me on this one people. The food is old school Italian classic with some tasty, flavorful dishes. Definitely one of the best Caesar Salads in town so highly recommend. Service is and always has been excellent ant attentive. Pricing for the pasta is fair and other dishes leaning on the higher side. Again, remember this place is tiny.
Excellent Italian food/Dining experience
Our family of six dined at this restaurant after listening to Howard’s Sterns podcast. We were able to get a reservation thanks to the host on the phone. What a sweetheart. Our food was delicious and we all had something different from veal, chicken parm to shrimp. We were all very happy with our service and had an amazing dining experience outside. Our server Chip was fabulous who made sure our food was correct and cooked the way we liked. Highly recommend this place. Excellent Italian’
A Sad Decline
I used to love Dan Tana's. The service and ambience are still impressive. The steak was overcooked and tepid and was definitely not USDA Prime. The scampi were tasteless and rubbery. The prices are astonishing. Never again.
Not worth the trip
Wildly overpriced. This was a generally very disappointing meal. The atmosphere in the inside part of the restaurant is probably the reason why this place is so popular. Would not recommend and would not go back.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
