Crazy good food and fun experience
Wow this place is perfect. They seated us promptly on our reservation and helped us work their menu. The server knew everything about the menu and drinks and customized the chefs choice to our specific and varied dining restrictions. All the food was delicious but I think the vegetarian version might have been best.

This restaurant is fantastic. It looks like a little jewel box inside, the lighting, the wall murals. It is super cozy. And then there is the food- incredible and so delicious and creative. Finally, service was superior. The staff was just excellent. Full of energy and advice and warmth. We were blown away. Don't miss this place.
Be the first to ReplyOnly choice for our one night in Toronto
We had one night in Toronto (layover at the airport), and we knew we had to go back to DaiLo. This place serves exceptional modern takes on various Asian dishes. The menu is super creative. If you like modern Asian food, then you Must eat here. Make a reservation well ahead of time. Geoff provided attentive and knowledgeable sake pairings, which were super unique.

Great food, friendly staff and very accommodating. We only eat fish and vegetarian and we told our server this from the start. She suggested the tasting menu could be made to our preferences and they did a great job. The dishes were all unique and flavourful. We would definitely go back!

Went and did the tasting menu as a solo individual, and it did not disappoint! Staff was super friendly, helpful suggestions, and great descriptions for every dish! Could tell they wrte excited about the food they were serving. I couldn't pick a favourite as everything that came out was interesting and on point. I don't often do reviews but had to come say it was great, highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyAn exceptional and memorable dinner
Our evening at DaiLo was outstanding in every respect. We opted for the deluxe version of the multi-course tasting menu, which included some delectable scallop, tuna and lobster dishes, in addition to the “usual” spectacular array of small plates. We opted to have the smoked duck as our more substantial main course and it was absolutely delicious. All in all, a perfectly structured variety of imaginative and perfectly executed dishes. Our server Hannah was also outstanding - both friendly, helpful and extremely knowledgeable about both food and wine. Thank you, Hannah. The atmosphere at DaiLo is relaxed and casual, extremely serious about its food and wine, but unpretentious and welcoming in every other way. If you haven’t yet been to DaiLo, don’t hesitate. We had a wonderful evening.

We visited on a Thursday evening and all of us went for the tasting menu. Service was friendly and enthusiastic with every course being described in detail but very quickly. We found the food very salty, and greasy. If you like the idea of watermelon in batter and then fried, this is the place for you. Very expensive and really not to our taste.

It was a beautiful dining experience. The sophisticated chinoiserie decor set the mood right for the culinary surprises to come. All the dishes were well executed but the outstanding ones were the beef rib Khao Soi and the Whole Fried Giggie trout. It upended my idea of Khao Soi, a personal favourite of a Chiangmai staple. Instead of chicken, beef worked marvellously for this dish. The plating was also a feast for the eyes. They should include this dish on their permanent menu. The fish dish similarly wowed with its presentation. The Indonesians do an excellent “dancing fish” dish and Dailo’s version managed to impress me. The fried watermelon dish was also a conversation piece. I like food that engages the diners. Perhaps the only average dish was the dessert, which was a off menu offering of a Filipino chocolate dish.

The food is incredible. Having just travelled into Toronto from London, Hugo looked after our group immaculately as we had a vegetarian and also people who didn’t eat seafood and he complied an extraordinary menu. The food is expertly balanced and unbelievably creative. Fried water melon with shiitake mushroom floss was something to behold and the vegetarian dumplings with truffle, olive and Gruyère were to die for. The cocktails were totally original with hot sauce being a surprise and memorable ingredient, as well as the Scottish beer on tap. Finally, a perfect host in the form of Geoffrey who had many wise words and is an extremely talented individual. My wife said it all - this was perfect in all respects, from the food, drink, ambience and service from Hugo and Geoffrey; this was the best meal we have ever eaten in over 40 years of dining.

If you are even somewhat adventurous Asian cuisine "junkies" then you must check this place out. Not only is the chef incredibly talented and creative, but the service was attentive and they really cared that we were enjoying the food and the experience. They will tailor the tasting menu to your preferences, and of course you don't have to do the tasting menu. Our two favorite dishes were the "whole" fried fish and the Burmese tofu. Thank you Jeff and Trevor for this very special restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyHigh energy, great service and a creative chef.
This is a high energy place with great servers and a creative chef. When we told our server we were visting foodies from out of town, he sent over the chef. We chatted with him for 10 minutes about the Toronto restaurant scene and the restaurant business. For a tiny dish, the Smoked Trout Pomelo Betel Leaf had so much going for itself, the freshness of the betel leaf, some crunchiness, and a sort of Vietnamese, sort of Thai taste profile. We also ordered the Burmese Tofu and the Smokey Pea Dumplings as well as the trout, all great choices. We decided to order everything from the ample menu but there were at least a half dozen specials that we easily would have liked to have tried had we been part of a larger party. A Manhattan made with Nikko Japanese whisky and tobacco flavored bitters gave the cocktail a deep smokey yummy taste I wish I could reproduce.

Fantastic food. The creativity of the chef shows in the taste and presentation. Staff - huge applause. Jeff, the manager was so friendly that we felt so comfortable.

Really a remarkable experience. Food was delicious and diverse. We opted for the chef’s choice and were enthralled with the selections. Not inexpensive but we’ll worth it. Good sized portions and a total of seven courses. Room is busy but booth seating dulls the noise level. Friendly and helpful staff were quick to offer suggestions. It focuses on Asian selections with a continental twist. Lovely meal.

Visited DaiLo twice in one week; both times on a Sunday evening. The first we opted for the a la carte and it was delicious. Our waiter, Shannon, was patient, attentive, and gave in depth descriptions of each dish we selected. The pork and prawn wonton and the lamb rendeng were highlights. It was booked for a birthday and we received a couple surprises because of that which was much appreciated.
On our second visit, which was a spontaneous walk-in, we opted for the Chef Selection at $76pp. In my opinion, you definitely get your money's worth. We basically got every other dish on the menu that we hadnt ordered the first time. Shannon was our waiter again so made sure to tell the chef not to double up on what we had previously. At one point, we thought one of the courses was our last, but then out came the platter of ribeye and truffle fried rice. We couldn't believe it. The steak was incredible!
Absolutely loved everything both visits, and can't wait to return!
Strong Tasting Menu, but a Little Pricey
This was a great tasting menu, but a little expensive. Courses like the fried rice or simple vegetables were a bit lacking given the price point. That said, the phenomenal trout, ribs, etc . . . mostly made up for it.

DaiLo is a must try for any foodie in Toronto!
My partner and I made a reservation for a casual date night having heard that this is a great restaurant but didn't expect to leave as amazed as we did.
The staff members are incredibly knowledgeable, and take turns to ensure no one is left unattended.
We opted for the ~$70 tasting menu hearing that they are uniquely customized to each patron - and for a moment there didn't fully believe it. 6 courses and however many dishes later, we're stuffed and somewhat in disbelief that we hadn't been to DaiLo until today.
Highly recommended - a total gem exhibiting Toronto's diversity through culinary freedom.
Great food, but getting too pricey
My husband and I went on a Sat for dinner (the 8pm seating) with another couple. The service was excellent, as was the food. I love eating food that's interesting and I would never prepare at home. However, it was so noisy in the restaurant that it was difficult to hear our servers, and we had to practically shout to hear one-another at the table. (Common in many restaurants, but totally unnecessary. Not sure why management doesn't consider some noise attenuation.) Also, we were quite surprised when the bill arrived. It turned out that some dishes on the "sharing" part of the menu were for only one or two people, so if you wanted to "share," you had to order 2, or - in the case of the betel leaf, 4 - of the same dish. It had been too noisy for us to understand this. 5 'sharing' dishes, 2 mains, 1 bottle of wine, 1 dessert, and 2 drinks came to approximately $440.

I came here as a guest so I didn't see the pricing for per person for the tasting menu where they give you 8 tasting dishes featuring duck, beef, lamb, rice and vegetarian dishes. Food was interesting and delicious! The service was outstanding. The portions were small, but with 8 dishes coming out, it was more than enough per person. My only complaint was the noise level. You could not hear your dinner companions because the noise level was unbearable.

Such a great place for get together and sharing plates. Had the compressed watermelon and the whole fish. It was incredible ! Definitely want to come back next time I’m in town.
