Superb
What a fabulous restaurant with such lovely staff who clearly love their job. Food was just superb, wine and recommendations were faultless. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyGood food but experience spoiled by very poor level of service.
Disappointing visit - yes the food was pretty good (though not exceptional) but evening spoiled by very amateurish service. Basic things like offering for me to taste the wine, but pouring my wife’s a full glass before I had even raised it to my lips…. Very offhand and incredibly slow and unhelpful when making requests such as for extra water…. I would expect more from a restaurant of this supposed calibre. I don’t think we will return any time soon.

We were a little surprised it was open on a Sunday evening but we were so glad it was as we have enjoyed meals there before.
It was surprisingly busy and was alive with the sound of people chatting and enjoying themselves which is always a good sign.
As usual, we had aperitifs - the usual G&T for me and the house aperitif for the wife which she really enjoyed. For starters, my wife went with the ‘Velouté de cèpes (mushrooms) and for me it was the ‘Foie gras de canard’. My wife loved hers but I was a little disappointed in mine though it was still not bad. The mains - well - it was a bit of a challenge for me - as I went with the beef and anchovy course, that combination having raised my eyebrows when I first saw it while my wife went with the more conventional roast duck and duck confit combination. The latter was thoroughly enjoyed as was mine but the first taste got those eyebrows moving again. However, the more I ate, the more I thought ‘I would be happy to go with this again’ so my challenge was met successfully! A bottle of red, recommended by one of the waiters, helped things along nicely.
My wife had the fig dessert while I had a glass of Calvados which magically appeared after being told they did not have any. However, with input from the chef, there it was!
OK, in summary, I did say the Foie gras was a little disappointing so why the 5*?
This was down to the staff - two lads and the female maitre d’ who did the table service. I could not praise them more highly and the way we and they handled the mix of English, French and Franglais, with a few laughs included a long the way, was great.
Excellent so roll on the next time!
Unmissable
This restaurant is exceptional; an easy Michelin ☆. It'll be recognised within a year or two, I predict; at which point prices will rise and reservations subject to prolonged waits. Don't delay!
