COMMUNION Restaurant & Bar Seattle Reviews from The Last Year
Good food but service was awful.
Server barely came to our table, we had to wait a long time to get drinks. She was rude and condescending when I asked for suggestions. We asked for boxes to go and she then spent ten minutes talking to someone at another table. Rude! She just didn't seem to like us from the beginning for no reason, her name was Asia I believe,

We got the bbq shrimp, stuffed trout, Mac and cheese and salad (not pictured) Mac and cheese was really oily, when broken into the cheese separated and was quite stringy. The seasoning was unique southern twist but wished it was less oily and cheese was better incorporated ($12) Stuffed trout was really good it had a nice cornmeal coating, my favorite thing on my menu but for $52 you think they could de bone the fish. Wasn't pleasant having to remove bones every bite and took away from the fish ($52) The bbq shrimp was also great, nice app and well cooked, spice level was perfect for me $18 Gumbo had lots of seafood and a nice kick, not my favorite but appreciated that it came with crab ($25?) Salad was forgettable and not pictured. Anyway towards the end we realized they charge a 5% convenience fee which is irritating, honestly just raise your food prices and don't put paying your employees onto your customers.

I've been wanting to try Communion for months and we finally made it for our anniversary. I was so excited! Sadly, the food ranged from good to ok. Most of the dishes just didn't hit. Food came out slow and was either bland or unbalanced. The interiors are gorgeous and the music was great. Cocktails were delicious. The true deal breaker was the service. Service was cold and unwelcoming - they did not seem to want to be there or to want us there. It felt like food was unceremoniously dropped on the table by our server. Drinks arrived well after appetizers. We were not able to get a reservation until the end of the night so maybe the server was tired? In any event, we will not be back. The service just killed the whole experience. Sad that we wasted a special occasion there. Two stars for kitchen effort, music and decor.
10/10 first time in Seattle and tried this spot out.
Incredible tasting dishes great helpful servers and the chocolate brownie was pure bliss.
Wonderful service and great dishes.
Everything was flavorful and well seasoned. The portions are generous and easy to share. Would come back!
Awesome food and service.
Hardest reservation to get in Seattle and it was all worth it.
This place is a must-visit.
It makes me feel like I'm at my grandmother's house. The food is exceptional, the ambience is amazing, and the people - including the friendly owner - make it a delightful experience. There isn't a single bad item on the menu and their drinks are excellent.
Everything we ate here was absolutely amazing.
Almost everything we ate here was also spicy. For most of our party the spice level was fine. There weren't too many left overs because no one wanted to stop eating! First things first. Go to their website to make reservations. They open reservations at the beginning of the month and when they are gone, they are gone. You must make reservations or expect to be turned away. Now you know. There is bar seating that may be available. We did have to wait a bit past our reservation time for the table to empty. The party were having a good time and altough they were given the bill, they partied on a bit longer. It was graduation day at UofW so we weren't too bothered. That's why we were there too! The table was a long, group sized table. Another small party was at one end, our party of five at the other. So just be aware, you may be sharing space. This type of dining is not new to us, so we were good with the arrangement and it's good to know they can accommodate large groups. With a full house, dining inside was loud and a little hard to hear the waiter. There are also a few tables outside on the sidewalk you can reserve. Not only is the food delicious, the presentation is well done. We shared some vegetable fritters in curry sauce. Everyone enjoyed them especially with the curry sauce. It really set the fritters over the top. Unc's chicken was definitely a favorite. You should try them if you can tolerate the spice. Mac & cheese is a very satisfying dish. Just what you want in a creamy, home cooked mac & cheese. The collards are delicious. These are a little spicy and just so darn good. If you haven't tried collards, try these. I went with their winter squash dinner. It was a very tasty dish with quinoa and cranberry and filled me nicely with the side of collards. The cat fish po'boy was a filling, tasty, spicy treat. That Berbere chicken is hot spicy. Not just spicy, hot spicy. Take note. The menu changes seasonally so check the website for the latest menu. The chef has been nominated for a James Beard award and although she did not win this year, just the nomination speaks to the level of delicious you can expect at Communion. If you will be visiting or live nearby I truly do recommend you check out this restaurant. They have a full bar, beer and wine besides soft drinks. Parking is on street. Restrooms down a hall to the side of the open kitchen. Bon apetite.
Everything we tried here was delicious.
Flavors were awesome! As for quantity, there were four of us and we ended up taking home the chicken, only because I'm not much of a spicy person so I only ate a little bit and my daughter took home most of it (she loved it). We ordered 3 family style dishes. I highly recommend the pork chop and the clams. The chicken wings were also good but nothing special as that dish can be found anywhere. Still it's a good entree even if it's classified as appetizer. And it was very well executed, crunchy and not too oily. That gumbo was truly memorable! Don't forget to order it! And service was excellent...But I ended up paying 25% tip. Accidentally. There's an added 5% non tip service charge so we actually paid 30% over the price of food...so be careful when handling that machine. Apparently the menu changes seasonally but this was on Tuesday June 18, 2024.

Our 2nd visit -- another artistic presentation of bold, complimentary flavors that warms one's inner spirit. Great service too; attentive yet calm
Had dinner with 2 friends.
From the moment we walked in, it felt like a family table. The entire staff was friendly and inviting. The vibe inside is perfect (decor, seating, music). We got a smattering of apps; BBQ shrimp, shrimp toast, scotch egg, and hood sushi. All perfect. Amazing amount of flavor that was balanced and perfectly cooked. For entrees, we shared the short rib, trout, and pork chop. Again, all perfectly prepared and seasoned. Not a bad bite. Cocktails were original, balanced, and fun. Desserts of key lime pie and bread pudding were enjoyed by all. This is a must go any time I visit Seattle from now on!

Excellent food and each dish has its own unique and distinctive flavors. Complete value for money .
Wow, service here is excellent! Thank you, Niles.
The food here was good, not spectacular, but good and definitely worth trying. We'll probably be back. On Yelp, the fried chicken seemed to be popular so we tried that. It was good, but not the best I ever had. Gumbo was average, maybe needed a little more spice. Then we had the po mi, which is a take on the po boy and banh mi sandwiches. That was ok as well. Finished off with the bread pudding for dessert and it was fabulous. Texture and taste was spot on.

Great spot! Me and my friend ordered tons of things on the menu and everything was amazing. I will definitely be going back!
I love the restaurant space.
It has a good vibe with great music playing. The night my wife and I went, service was nice, but not very attentive. It took us about 10 minutes to be seated with a reservation with open seats to sit at and once seated another 10 minutes or so to get water delivered. Maybe it was an off night for them, but the staff was very friendly. The menu is very unique and has some cool fusion food options. My gumbo was very bland and wasn't my favorite dish. The fried cabbage was possibly the best I've ever had! I would come back for that alone. The Mac was good, but I've had better. My wife's chicken was very good and filled with flavor. The bread pudding was also a hit! We were visiting Seattle for a conference and love to patronize Black businesses. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good food, but a better vibe.
If you're reading this you probably already know that this
If you're reading this you probably already know that this is one of the best restaurants in our area. Located in the historic Liberty building; the ambience and photography creates a great sense of place, blending the past history and present presence of elements of Seattle's Black community. Food is amazing - particularly the fritters with Trinidadian curry - I could have licked the plate. I also had the catfish po mi - a great blend of flavors and the catfish was perfectly crisp. The desserts were also stand out - the brownie is everything anyone ever wants a brownie to be. And don't forget to order a drink - the bartenders know how to mix a good cocktail, especially the Cherie Amour. The place was of course very busy on a Saturday night, and the servers worked quickly and graciously. Go!
Loved every item I ate.
We ordered the fired chicken, hood sushi, gumbo, neck bones stew, and black eye peas hummus and everything was amazing. Food came out quick as well. It was a packed house so I am glad we came to dinner early. Loved the laid back atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
I love and hate that they have a rotating menu.
You fall in love with an item and then next time you go it's gone. None the less it is always replaced with another great item to fall in love with. My favorites have the Hood Sushi, Jambalaya, Catfish and Grits, Unc's Wings, Seafood Gumbo. Hoping they bring back the Pho Gumbo so I can try it.
The food was incredibly impressive! We liked the scotch
The food was incredibly impressive! We liked the scotch eggs (4/5 stars) and the vegan fritter (4.5/5 stars) was great. But the best dishes were definitely the chicken (5/5 stars blow your mind good) and the Mac and cheese (5/5 stars), I would recommend either highly to any foodie coming to Seattle!! The pork chop (4/5 stars) was a mixed bag, we loved the cabbage and bacon (5/5) but the pork chop itself (3/5) was lacking in depth of flavor. I really enjoyed the Green Apple cocktail and the Kinfolk cocktails, I want to get them again next time! The hostess and waitstaff were friendly (5/5 stars) although the wait for the food was unfortunately over 25 minutes. The ambiance is modern and home-y (5/5 stars). Soul food is not my personal favorite because I don't like most seafood or fried food, but wow I was extremely impressed and I'm so glad we came! For context, most sides were $10-15, the mains were $25-45, and the cocktails were $16/each.
This place really had it all.
Great staff, amazing food, solid ambiance. Went for dinner and it won't disappoint. It is a tad pricey but the food and the seasonings are well worth it.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
