Great
The food was great! Loved the atmosphere ♥️ we went on a Sunday which made the service quite slow but otherwise everything was great!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Afternoon Tea - A Real Treat
Possibly the best afternoon tea we had in London, and we're tried many !! Very friendly, efficient service in a modern/stylish "restaurant" within the hotel. The tea is "different" because the sandwiches, cakes etc differ from those served in the major other 5 Star London hotels. The sandwiches have a more modern feel about the fillings, and they are always happy to switch ones you don't like with others from say the vegetarian menu. Extra sandwiches are freely available. The cakes have to be the star of the show. based on major high end fashion brands, they really are clever (and nice to eat as well). I believe this is a long established practice at the Berkeley, but it's still very, very impressive. Traditional scones, cream and jam aren't as such on the afternoon tea menu, but are available on request (within the price). Expensive but perfect.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced average food in a hotel cafe setting
We had dinner here this evening after drinks at the Berkeley Bar. The bar was very nice with good cocktails and service. Arrived in the restauramt and felt like we were walking into the breakfast buffet room. Zero ambiance, half empty and no music.
The food was very average, certainly not fine dining. In fact advertising this restaurant as fine dining is an insult to the many restaurants that do try. The food was reasonably presented but generally lacked flavour and finesse. The sirloin at £43 was tough, the salmon was dry as was the chicken. Sides all priced at £10 was laughable for the quality presented.
Go to the Dorchester grill for fine dining, try park chinois for an experience, cut at 45 parklane also does it better. Bar Boulud in the Mandarin (which is sadly now closed) was better and never claimed to be fine dining.
In a city like London with so much choice and more importantly inspiration this restaurant fails on almost every level. I just walked past Helen Derose at the Connaught and would recommend you go there for a fine dining experience that delivers on the price
What a treat!
My husband likes tea at some of the more traditional places, but he didn’t come on This trip, so we were able to indulge our self with a reservation at the Berkeley.
From the start, the service was attentive and warm, with excellent presentation of the teas and trays. Tea selection is amazing and in itself is worth the price of admission. The savories were delicious and the pastries literally works of art. Would do again!
The reference in service
What a wonderful time we had. There were 4 of us for lunch and everything was delightful, from the bread to each of our dishes. The people waiting on us were very helpful, to the point of organising a specific menu for us when we raised some concern about specific items on the menu.
Be the first to ReplySadly a disappointing experience!!
Firstly - let me be honest - I love the Berkeley Hotel and we frequently visit- which is always a great experience!!
We booked the Collins Room afternoon tea for 2pm and arrived early so we went for drinks on the terrace overlooking the beach huts - it was brilliant as ever!!
After drinks we went back to the Collins room and were seated at a table for two against the window area. There were tables seated on each side of us and the place was pretty full. As I had my back to the window - within minutes I felt completely freezing as the air-conditioning was on full. I was uncomfortable that I asked the waitress if we could be moved. The waitress said the air conditioning was up high due to Covid which was idiotic as every table against the window were feeling the cold. The waitress said she would turn the air conditioning a bit - however it made no difference! The immediate table next to us left complaining of the cold and another table who arrived after us left before we did!!!! Please take note management/ this has put off what should have been an enjoyable experience!!
As to the afternoon tea - it was amazing and we so enjoyed it!!- wonderful sandwiches and the most beautiful cakes based on Pret a Portea fashion. We chose the couture tea with champagne. The chefs did a fabulous job here and it was a real shame we could not tolerate to sit and fully enjoy the experience!! I was so cold and we asked for a box to take away the cakes!!!
It was an absolute disappointment we could not enjoy the experience we had so looked forward to.
We left the Collins Room and went back to the terrace overlooking the beach huts for more drinks and to get warmed up!!
As noted - we love the Berkeley terrace but the Collins room W as a let down not for the food/tea experience. If you book - ensure you are not seated at the window area!!!!
Fantastic Meeting Location
The Collins Room is a great location to meet people for a coffee and a chat. The service is good if not too often. Reasonable prices for the location.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
We were expecting an afternoon tea to rival The Ritz, but unfortunately the experience was not in the same league. The Collins Room was busy serving a variety of food , not only afternoon tea, so the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. A pleasant waitress introduced the tea and took our order - a wide variety of teas were on offer. The sandwiches were fresh & tasty, but the designer patisseries were over sweet - and by the time they arrived the tea was cold. There were two tiny mince pies, but no scones - surely the hallmark a decent afternoon tea ? As we were preparing to leave we noticed that we had not been served an attractive looking individual cake which others had received - we raised this with the waiter, who went away and returned to present us with small pots of spiced winter berries jam - not at all what we were concerned about. So we mentioned this to the manager as we left. She apologised for the oversight, suggesting that maybe the cakes hadn't been available at the time , but she went and found one of the cakes which she put in a box for us to take with us. Unfortunately by the time we got home it had collapsed into a soggy heap !
Be the first to ReplyBirthday Pret-a-Port-Tea
My momma has wanted to do this for ages so I treated her for her 70th and it was just divine!
The sandwiches and savouries were so well thought out and the cakes were divine.
I am soooooo full! it’s worth every penny 😊
Special mention for the lovely team there, they were beyond gorgeous and made it all really special for her - thank you! 😘
Afternoon Tea 🍰
My friend and I had been for the Dior afternoon tea which was amazing so we were very excited to come for the Autumn/Winter afternoon tea. Food was perfect as was the service. The sweet treats are not at all sickly and are delicious. Sandwiches with the different breads were lovely too my favourite being the chicken 😀
Be the first to ReplyStylish , elegant high tea
My wife decided that we had to try the Pret-a-Portea high tea. It’s was based in the Dior collection.
This turned out to be one of the most elegant, stylish and extremely good high teas we have had. The room is small and so a booking is a must.
Tables are quite close to each other so speak to soft Low tones!
Service is very good. Staff explain the concept , menu and choices. You can choose more than 1
Tea from and a very good selection. When we ordered the Matcha supreme, the very helpful staff actually made it at our table. It was simply divine.
The sandwiches are very tasty, creatively put
Together within slices of soft, succulent bread and spreads. There are also 3 savoury items - tuna , salmon and duck- very nice. The 3 tier tray showcased little pastries expertly made in the various Dior fashion items - jacket, boots, bags etc... definitely instagrammable!
Apart from looking nice , they tasted good too, not too sweet and just the right size.
A lot of thought and effort goes into this and the end result is a beautiful , classy and elegant high tea with excellent tasting food.
