Over priced and over salted.
The restaurant is more focused on pulling in people from out of town with it’s hipster vibe than providing good food.
Be the first to ReplyBest Meal in Nashville
This was our last stop after a bachelorette weekend in Nashville. It was a perfect, chill elevated meal perfect for our last night in town. We had 11 people so we had to order family style. We chose 3 apps, 2 pizzas and 3 entrees to share. The meal was well coursed and perfectly portioned for us to all have plenty to eat. Because we ordered as a group, I ended up trying things that I normally wouldn’t and they ended up being my favorites! The ham belly pizza was SO GOOD. And the Okra dish (which was a substitute for green beans that night) was one of my favorites.

Nice place. I liked how the cooking area was right in front for you to see. It's a bit interesting to see how the food is prepared, and how the cook's work. I enjoyed the ambiance - like an old rustic house. Service was good too. I had a linguini lamb dish. It was really really good! The dessert - a praline pie was amazingly good! Just watch your wallet; it almost makes going out to eat not worth it.
Be the first to ReplyInappropriate Music Rude and Fraudulent Staff...Charged $163 for drinks!!! OUTRAGEOUS
My husband and I decided to visit Nashville and opened the option for travel to friends who are fast fulfilling their bucket list. First time visiting Nashville after the Covid shutdown this past week to be with a friend who is battling cancer and has never been to country music central. During our four day excursion we visited many local restaurants, museums and music venues. We enjoyed the Music Hall of Fame where a Gibson was purchased and sent home, we wandered from one Honky Tonk to another enjoying the talent and food choices, and we went on a fabulous Brewery and Distillery Bus tour. All great fun. After the bus tour we asked about a good restaurant for some great food. We were looking for something more upscale then the offerings in the local pubs and were provided rave reviews of a restaurant named “City House”, a higher end, Italian cuisine with a nice atmosphere. We showed up at there location and were seated outside in an screened outdoor area with 5 tables. We were the only people in the outdoor seating area. As we sat reviewing the menu and deciding what we will have for dinner the music outdoors got extremely loud and vulgar. It was Rap music, and as it told its derogatory story about women, it became so uncomfortable we turned the outside speaker down. We had asked if the music could be changed to dinner music or soft rock and we were told no the kitchen crew decides the music. They proceeded to turn the offensive music up loud again, not sure if they realized how loud and uncomfortable the experience was for us, I don’t use the “N” word and I take great offense in its use no matter who uses it. They certainly did not care. With that, my husband just unplugged the speaker so nothing was playing. This must have affected the entire restaurant as they came out an plugged it back in. We asked again can you please put dinner music on instead we were told they could not as we were not the only people in the restaurant. We then said ok can we speak to your manager. The manager of City House, a 40ish white female came out to the screened area, arms crossed and face a sour. We asked kindly at first if we could just change the music to dinner music, soft rock or easy listening as we were in a higher end restaurant and expected a peaceful evening. She then proceeded to call us racist and that she was highly offended by our request. Shocked by her reaction we responded with, that’s fine, we did not need to eat there so we stood up and said ok please give us our check for our drinks and we will leave. Then it became really ugly, as we gathered our things, grumbling and offended ourselves, the comment that this was the type of music one would expect to be in a night club in the city, “you would be worried your tires would be gone when you left”, now that another was the trigger. The Manger had a tirade calling us white supremacist and stormed away. She returned in a huff with a check turned face down as we stood being berated for requesting the music change by the hostess and servers, even a cook came out of the kitchen to escalate the chaos. The manager of this establishment purposely charged $163 for 2 ice teas, a seltzer water and a beer. When we asked she take the bill back and adjust it to the correct amount she walked away and sent over several people from the kitchen. They then told us to leave even called the police, we were fine with them calling as they were committing fraud by over charging us for appetizers and entrees we never saw. They screamed at us that we are the cause of systemic racism. We explained we are in an Italian Restaurant and only asked the music be changed to dinner music. I would not expect Screamo genre of rock music to be playing as I enjoy my tiramisu, it’s completely inappropriate, as was the behavior of every employee of the City House restaurant. The attacks and unsubstantiated cry of racism by five young white people was applauding and disturbing in tandem, the inexperience of what true racism is becomes watered down when such behavior occurs. “Wokism” destroyed our evening and probably others as well, diluting racism for their own agenda. I will never go back, the experience was truly disturbing.

Can't say enough about our waiter, Sal. Awesome dude and phenomenal food. 👏. 100% a must try in nashville.
Be the first to ReplyWe'll stick with Sunday dinner...if we come back
It had been several years since we'd been to City House, so I wanted to try it again. My husband tries to eat low carb, and we knew that the menu is a lot of pasta and pizzas, but he was willing to find something he'd enjoy, so I could try the pizza. He had a salad that was fresh, with a very bright and lemony dressing. My pizza was a disappointment. The outside crust was gorgeously puffed up and charred, but the dough in the center was nearly raw. Then, as I was eating it, in 15 minutes or less, it all was just chewy and not crispy at all. My husband was looking forward to his chicken, after seeing the table next to us get 2 juicy thighs, but he received a very dried out breast with no sauce on it. When he said something to the waiter, he shrugged and said that's how you have to cook chicken. A disappointing meal, and I doubt we'll ever go back.
Be the first to ReplyThere is no hospitality here
We visited with out of town friends and were embarrassed. Service was slow but pleasant and accurate. The food was fine, but a solid notch below the hype. But we ordered a round of drinks before dinner arrived, so we could enjoy wine with dinner. Dinner came, no drinks. The service was aware...drinks are coming we were told. Dinner was completed...no drinks. Service was panicked - she sent a manager over, who delivered our drinks well after we finished eating. I complained and heard...we are slammed with so many walk in customers and we're down to one bartender and he can't keep up. Listen, I've been in plenty of tight situations and hospitality always makes it right. We got an apology, a shrug and a departure. No free drinks. No offer of a dessert or two. All I heard was - we are slammed and keep accepting new customers to make as much money as possible, even if it results in your experience falling way below the bar. Stay away from restaurants that have no sense of hospitality. City House is one of those restaurants. Beware.
Be the first to ReplyReally enjoyable Italian dinner
On a recent trip to Nashville, we tried City House for dinner after reading many glowing reviews, and are very glad we did. Our dinner here was excellent, with good food and service and a perfectly casual environment. City House is located in the Germantown section of Nashville, which we really only saw for purposes of getting to the restaurant, but it seemed nice and wasn’t far from Downtown where we were staying. There is a parking lot right next to the restaurant that we used, or you can also look for street parking in the largely residential neighborhood. The restaurant itself is an old brick house, which looked cute enough from the outside and serves as a good setting for a restaurant. On the inside, it’s really loud and bustling, and there’s really not much décor. It’s mostly just white walls and an open industrial feel. There’s one main dining room on the main level that’s the loudest part, and contains an open kitchen. We were glad that we were seated in a separate and much smaller room that was a few steps up from there. It was still loud, but not as loud, and being in a smaller room with only four or five tables allowed the dinner to be a bit more intimate. Our meal proceeded very well from there. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout, and we thought the food and wine were great. They had a very nicely curated list of Italian wines to choose from by the bottle, and we appreciated that you could find something pretty nice for a decent price point. The bottle of Valpolicella Superiore we selected was very good. For food, we decided to split a bunch of things for our table of five. We started with the frico with fennel and radicchio, kale salad with squash, and crispino lettuce salad, and all three were very good. I thought the kale salad in particular was a really delicious and perfect fall dish, but all three were tasty. After that we had two pizzas and two pastas. We went with the basic cheese pizza and the apple, kohlrabi, and bacon pizza, as well as the gnocchi and the cavatelli with white beans. The pizzas were both awesome, just really tasty with great crust, and the gnocchi was quite good too. The only dish I really didn’t love was the cavatelli, which was pretty bland. It didn’t taste like much more than plain pasta with bland beans, and I’m sure that’s not what they were going for. We also finished by splitting a couple desserts, including the tre latte ricotta cake and lemon almond ricotta skillet cake. The desserts were good, but not quite as compelling as some of the earlier food we had eaten. However, they were large, good for sharing, and generally good, so we had no real complaints there either. Overall, dinner at City House was a wonderful experience that we enjoyed in all respects. We liked the casual, bustling feel of the place since that’s what we were in the mood for that night, and everything about the meal itself was great. Service was good, the wine was nice, and virtually every food item was either good or great. We’d definitely recommend City House.
Be the first to ReplyQuirky building but great food
Worried about the high transmission of corona virus in the city, we made reservations to eat on the City House’s porch. The building is literally a house that was converted. From the outside, it looks kind of dodgy. But we entered through the side door and we’re quickly seated at our table on the screened in porch. The rest of the restaurant is more standard with a large dining room and a pretty nice bar area. The cover on the outside seating was crucial because Nashville was hit with prolonged downpours that caused flooding in the area. But we stayed nice and dry at our fresh air table. The food was very good. I had a pizza and my wife had pasta. We split an appetizer as a starter. No complaints. Service was attentive but we never felt like we were smothered with attention. The waiter even let us hang out after paying our bill as we hoped the torrential rain would let up. All in all, a very pleasant meal at a somewhat avant-garde restaurant in the Germantown section of Nashville,
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed and confused.
Good but disappointing. Fresh food but wished we had picked something else but can tell they use fresh ingredients and the chef is good at what they do. However waiter said these were shareable sizes and they were TINY portions. No vibe whatsoever. Blank white concrete walls and seems confused about what they want to be. Food came out quick so we were in and out looking for something better. I’m guessing the menu changes often. The online menu is not what was happening at the restaurant. They weren’t willing to do any changes in drinks. We wanted the same drink but Bourbon instead of tequila and told it was already put together and couldn’t change it. We watched the bartender make the drinks ingredient by ingredient (which was great).
