Be the first to ReplyThis place is an absolute atrocity.
A cesspool of dirty, disgusting old men and prostitutes young enough to be their granddaughters (do better girls)The stench isn't only pungent, it permeates your soul. Representative of the absolute dregs and decay of society. The fact that this is a "members only" club is just the cherry on top. Membership is just code for wealthy, repugnant men getting access to the hookers and prostitutes that frequent this place. While their wives are most likely at home. The staff must be so used to this clientele that by wearing a low cut dress, I personally was treated as someone being paid by the hour. Born and raised in NYC, in my 25 years I have never been more humiliated, shamed or appalled in my life. The looks I got. The attitude from waitstaff. I should have heeded the reviews that consistently report the same treatment from this absolutely abhorrent place. New York is dead and this is as good a place as any to lay it to rest.

I booked my hotel through American Express Travel and received an upgrade to a room on the third floor. The room was not large, but not tiny either. Superb by normal standards, but expected at an $800 per night price point. The upgrade afforded me a view of the East River, only it was foggy that night, so I could only see a few feet out my window.Room service was fast, and the food was good, but nothing to write home about. The mattress, pillows, and sheets were excellent. The bathroom and shower were likewise top-notch.Why the one-star rating, then?Well, I thought I'd start off with the positives, and leave the worst for last. In this case, however, the negatives so heavily outweigh anything favorable I have to say about this hotel.I'm an airline pilot and I've stayed at hotels all over the world.I know what to expect from a hotel.First and foremost, I expect a place where I can go to get some rest. At 5:40 AM, a high pitch horn started blaring. It stopped for just long enough to give me hope that the hellish sound was not resume, and then it started all over again.I thought the torturous cycle would soon come to an end. I was wrong. It lasted all morning.I looked outside. Directly below me, a ferry was docking. I watched as it maneuvered. Visibility was extremely low. I initially assumed the horn had something to do with the ferryboat, but that idea came to a grizzly end when the ferry left and the horn continued to blare.I tried the hotel-provided earplugs, but that was about as effective as using a bandaid to stop a bullet. I tried an experiment: I went to the bathroom and closed the door. Though I could still hear the horn, I figured with earplugs I could probably manage to sleep for a few more hours. On what, though? The marble floor? There was no cot. Towels and pillows? What was I thinking? I was in a luxury hotel, not a youth hostel! I came to my senses and called reception.I was told that this noise is an issue they have when it gets foggy. The coast guard station happened to be right next to us, and their fog warning horn activates whenever there's low visibility in the area.He suggested I wear earplugs. I told him I'd tried that and that earplugs didn't help. I'd have to be in a medically-induced coma not to hear that sound. After all, that horn was designed to be heard at a distance, and, as he'd just stated, the coast guard was right next to the hotel. He apologized but added there was nothing more he could do as this was out of his control since the fog horn was coming from outside the hotel property.I pointed out that had they not "upgraded" me to this riverside room, I would have been facing the city and sleeping right now. He didn't offer a room change, just another useless apology. As a result, when my alarm sounded a few hours later, I was wide awake having had a total of only three hours sleep. Even if the horn were to have stopped right then, I couldn't take advantage of the late checkout that I got by booking with American Express and get more rest because I had an important meeting in Wall Street to attend. At checkout, the young man at reception informed me that I had no charges. He was very polite and respectful, but he forgot the most basic question.I waited."That's it," he said cheerily, "you're all set."I said nothing. He was visibly confused. "Can I help you with something else?"I told him that he hadn't asked me about my stay and that I didn't recall being at a hotel anywhere in the world and not being asked that question during checkout. His expression of anguish was almost enough to make me feel like a child abuser. He looked barely old enough to hold a job.He asked me about my stay and I told him.It turns out that five other people had called to complain about the horn. He said there was nothing they could do because it was out of their control.I disagreed and told him why. First of all, the manager I'd called that morning had said this was a known problem. So fog = horn = sleepless night for anyone who isn't deaf and happens to have the misfortune of spending nearly a grand on a riverside room. What could they do? They could let guests know in advance: if there's fog, riverside rooms will hear the coast guard horn until the fog subsides. They could be proactive and check the weather. (As it happens, fog had been in the forecast.)What else could they do? Offer city-side rooms to the guests that would be staying during periods of fog. What could they do long term? They could invest money in soundproofing the riverside rooms. The receptionist couldn't refund my stay because it had been prepaid through American Express. He assured me that next time, my stay would be different and this would not happen again.Unfortunately for Casa Cipriani, there will be no next time for me.There are plenty of other excellent choices in Manhattan, so I suggest you look elsewhere for luxury lodging at the Big Apple.

High turnover rate. Food is bland and overpriced. I worked in room dining under muesler and this person let me go over uniform infraction. Don't work here let alone eat here.

My one star is because I was wearing a nice polo and pants and was told I needed to keep my jacket on because men are not allowed to have shirt sleeves. Only to get in the dining room and see two white guys in short sleeve t-shirts, no jacket. Not cool and the business needs to be more aware of the optics of how this comes across especially as I was the only black person there who wasn't a waiter. The food was ok. Would usually give a place a few tries but will not return based on the experience. Dining room was interesting but definitely will tell people to steer away from here.
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely beautiful place.
Staff friendly, helpful, and wonderful! We started our New York visit with the news that our booked hotel had canceled our reservation due to flooded rooms in the building. Our travel company rebooked us into Casa Cipriani where we were greeted with gracious courtesy and made to feel very welcome. The staff turned the rocky start of our vacation (and our first trip to New York) into a wonderful experience! We can't thank them enough!

From making our reservation to check out our experience was not what was expected of a Cipriani property. Our room had a toilet that wouldn't stop running, TV didn't work most of the stay and the room smelled at night when we returned. They charged our credit card 4 times what the room should cost the day we checked in to the hotel. Even though it was only a hold on our credit card it was excessive, upsetting and not authorized by us. When we complained they said there was no one available to take care of the charge at the moment. We spent way too much time speaking to different employees and management for the small courtesy's the manager extended to us. The club has spectacular views and food and service were amazing. However, I would not recommend staying at the hotel until they get their act together.

Be the first to ReplyLet's set the scene.
You travel into a dark and poorly lit driveway originally designed for pedestrian traffic to find a single door you're not sure about. You immediately notice a stench, from what I cannot say only speculate as being old farts due to the lack of ventilation. You are immediately confused, asking yourself if you've made a good decision by entering this want-to-be cool establishment. After being grilled about why you even walked in, you are allowed to travel to the room. Again wondering, why in hell this building would be converted into a hotel. Upon entering the room, you realize, this was a mistake, or at least your buddy did. If the stink does not get you, the confined and dark atmosphere will certainly get your anxiety going. Ok, you decide to visit the bar and pretend that all NYC hotels are small and weird. Wait! It is 90+ degrees out, better put on a pair of blue shorts, button-down, loafers, and a watch. Upon entering the bar/lounge you notice on a Saturday afternoon, that you are the only one there, literally Ok the view is nice enough for a drink. Nope, they decide to close all the blinds. Ok, not to worry I am sure the drinks are good and maybe even some bites. Nope! A dude in an abnormally tight suit tells you that your party shorts are not allowed there. Ahh, dress code. I remember being told, "please, no athletic gear." So we ask about are shorts allowed at the pool and if we can get a drink there. Wait a second, there's supposed to be a pool, right? Nope, not until an expected opening on 2023, and I swear it, the guy said they "might" allow people to wear shorts there. And to cap it off, they just stated allow short sleeve shirts. OK, so you're losing ten of thousands a week, your hotel is a scene from a horror movie, you are or should be aware private clubs like this NEVER stay around long, and you decide to turn away about 98% of patrons in the summer months due to shorts. Again, the dress code s great, but shorts in 90 degrees in an outdoor location? To stay on topic here, a little, dress code is important, especially given how some people dress, like it is Sunday morning. But, if you have 0 business, you are running an outdoor bar, you have hotel guests that may even in fact buy a membership and it is 90 degrees you make exceptions. Or even better, you tell the "owners" we cannot turn away 98% of patrons or potential ones. Instead, we were told it is management and nothing can be done and to leave. After being thrown out, as a paying hotel guest by the way, you decide to visit the lobby again, because god knows there is nothing else at the terminal. Only here to find out staff are not only clueless about hospitality but also find the humor in the campaign this place has to keep people away. If I could bet on the inevitable closer of this place, I'd put the farm down on it. Idiotic management (obviously), poor location, smelly, and frankly terrible establishment. The owners of this place are either medicated or should be to think there is any chance of running a successful business in this location. I have and will advise friends and family, all of whom live here in NYC, to tell their friends about my experience. Hope this was all worth throwing out paying guests, rather than realizing that in 90 degree outside people wear shorts, Todd's loafers, and Gucci collared shirts. I am also sure the response to this review will be something along the lines of dress code enforcement rather than self-reflection of what can be done differently. Honestly, even if they allowed shorts and gave out hundred-dollar bills, the location and atmosphere sucks.
Be the first to ReplyHigh prices when you look at it for what you get but what
High prices when you look at it for what you get but what really sets them apart is the service. I had some questions for the front desk and he went above and beyond when it came down to getting answers, having various options, as well as other suggestions.
