hidden gem nestled among all the new high-rise buildings and endless construction
While Cindy Lou's Fish House is visible from the harbor, it is actually a hidden gem nestled among all the new high-rise buildings and endless construction in this junction between Fells Point and Harbor East. Fortunately, its reputation and Google Maps helped be find the place and have a great lunch. When i got near, i noticed signage is understated, so the large harbor facing windows helped me easily see that I had arrived at a place where people were seated and dining. All the staff were most welcoming and the seating comfortably arranged. There was a slight chill outside, so I thought soup would make a good starter. These days, winter squash soups are so commonplace that I almost passed on the soup of the day. Not only was it expertly and intriguingly seasoned, but the color was not the typical bright yellow-orange but a deeper roasted orange. Sprinkled on top were nuts and dried fruit, an attractive and tasty detail. Given the Carolina Low Country Cuisine of the foundational restaurant in this group, the presence of seafood perlau with Carolina golden rice was a welcome sight on the menu. The serving was large with a very generous amount of mussels, crayfish, andouille sausage, and shrimp. There was a bit more oil than I am used to, but the flavor was wonderfully spicy. The recommended sauvignon blanc complimented the food well. A double espresso wrapped up the meal nicely and propelled me into the rest of my day.

There were a lot of problems, some systemic: they only serve red wine chilled, so you do not get the full taste; the kitchen staff brought out the wrong oyster dish; the corrected dish had oysters so small that all I could taste was the batter; the "special" ham platter tasted no better than supermarket ham; and service was so slow that we had to order desserts to go, because of a subsequent appointment. The dessert disaster: after repeated requests for them, our server started hiding from us, and we had to get the manager to retrieve them from the kitchen 25 MINUTES LATER. Please don't bother with desserts, for $12 each, they are small and undistinguished.. It was not all bad: the pumpkin bisque was delicious, and my wife's catfish was also good, with a well balanced sauce-- but we will not return.

My family of four had a reservation made weeks ago and were put at a really bad table. There were multiple much better four top tables available. We asked to move to one of those tables before being seated and were told by the hostess we were not allowed to have one of the tables. My wife and daughter had a view of heat lamps and dogs piping in the grass next door. Our table was off balance, shook and could not be fixed even after our waiter worked for over 5 minutes to balance it. For the majority of our meal at least one of the tables we originally asked to sit at remained empty. My meal which was not labeled as jambalaya tasted worse than Zattaran’s from a box. My wife ordered the same thing. Absolutely terrible with no spice or flavor. I can cook better than my meal. This was the first time in years I didn’t try to finish what was in my plate. I left hungry. I am including pictures of my wife’s view, my terrible boring slop (which even looks just like Zattaran’s) and a shot of my son’s Sprite can in the midst of rolling down our table
Be the first to ReplyOf all things, the food was bland.
I kept tasting for flavor. Hard to find any. Fish had zero flavor. Dessert was dry. Also, the ceilings and walls are concrete. Which means the proprietor cares more about vibe then the customer. We aren’t old and we couldn’t converse. Disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyRun don’t walk down to Cindy Lou’s!!
Absolutely amazing! Beyond accommodating. After a 5 hour drive with four hangry teenagers we walked in literally minutes before closing and they seated us without question. Every person we encountered was friendly and accommodating. Our waitress, Hannah went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed(mom needing alcohol after the previously mentioned road trip with 4 teenagers!) 2 picky eaters in the group were pleasantly surprised they found a love for Salmon and Brussels sprouts. I highly HIGHLY recommend taking a little trip down the road to Cindy Lou’s. I can’t wait to join them for breakfast!!

This was our second time here. First time was outside for brunch and this time was inside for dinner. This restaurant has a beautiful setting. While we are aware that there is a shortage of waiters, we hoped to have better service. Food was tasty but a bit pricey.
Be the first to ReplyCindy Lou's - Fells Point
Cindy Lou's Fish House is in Fells Point and actually part of the Hilton Hotel complex (although separate ownership). We went there for lunch once we found out they offered a Lobster Po-Boy. Because it is a waterfront type restaurant pricing is not cheap but you get what you pay for. Service was a bit shaky but I attribute that to the newness of the establishment. Overall a good experience.
