Enjoyable evening
This was a dinner that provided a unique experience from the environment alone. The menu offers unique choices that provide a culinary treat for any food lover. Make reservations ahead of time.
Be the first to ReplyFood and atmosphere good. Hosting and seating….blah.
Neat atmosphere. Waiter was friendly and helpful. Ravioli was enjoyable. Drinks were as well. Had reservations for two people and there was a delay with our table. Watched six…six other two person parties get seated before us despite them arriving after us. Staff was apologetic but it was weird in that they didn’t just give us one of the other two person tables first - including one right next to the table we ultimately sat at. Those other six were reservations and walk-ups. We ended up waiting 20 minutes because of this. Kind of soured the whole experience.
Be the first to ReplyMostly a nice anniversary dinner!
A great ambience! Pricey. I had Delicious ravioli with sausage. Wonderful wine. Mozzarella & tomato appetizer was excellent. Chicken was sadly bland and dry - my husband’s meal. Our wedding anniversary. They brought champagne- nice. The chocolate gelato was like fudge, super rich. We would return - but not for chicken!
Be the first to ReplyStunning atmosphere, outstanding cocktails and food, friendly service and festive vibe.
Of course we went for the gorgeous atmosphere but there is so much more. We had reservations as a couple and when friends joined us, they accommodated us even though it was a busy night (Wednesday LOL!) We enjoyed drinks and the beautiful bar - The Ready Orgeat was one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had. Our meals were superb. The crawfish appetizer and fried chicken were amazing. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyAverage good, neat venue
We went for breakfast on a Tuesday but they only had one breakfast choice M-F. The rest was lunch items even at 10am. Interesting venue. Food was average at best. Bacon was burned and the English muffin was under-toasted/soggy. Service was good and friendly. Good to do once but with so many good restaurants in Charleston I would not return.
Be the first to ReplyOne of a kind location!
Such a fun dinner spot in Historic downtown Charleston! The food was wonderful (we tried their hand braided ravioli and loved it) and the building is gorgeous. Look to the ceiling for a fun view and ask the waitstaff about it. Definitely make reservations in advance!
Be the first to ReplyWonderful
Went for brunch with a couple of girlfriends. The food was very fresh and great quality. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The decor was unique as it was inside of an old church. Very beautiful! The wait staff was kind and attentive. I had the Prosciutto and Burrata, as well as avocado toast. Drinks were also great. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyWeird Experience
Went to the bar and there were about 4-5 servers huddled together at the other end and working on cleaning the bar and never served us. We were the only ones there. So we left..told the hostess on the way out.
Be the first to ReplyGreat space but seemed like it focused more on looking good for Instagram rather than providing accurate service.
Great space, the food I had was great quality but nothing special, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have a reservation and have to wait to get a seat. I ate at the bar and the service needed more training. The bar tenders were nice and cordial, but they kept getting the orders wrong for all the customers and kept serving it to the wrong people. It even seemed like the managers couldn’t serve the food to the correct customers.
Be the first to ReplyA great overall experience
First, you can’t beat the ambience of this old church converted into a restaurant. They’ve done a spectacular job with it. We had great food and great service and would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
Be the first to ReplyA miss!
We'd heard good things about the Church and Union Restaurant, so we went there to see what it was about. Very unique ambiance, beautiful architecture and stain glass, but the setting was underutilized as it had a full-service bar, rap music, limited menu, and potentially controversial sayings throughout. Felt more like an over-priced oxymoron (like jumbo shrimp) then a soulful symbol of the deep religious history that envelops this city. There's a time and place for all of the other, but they could've really made this place a truly unique and encompassing experience like just serving wine (Jesus turned water into wine) playing upbeat gospel music, etc. As far as the food, the hummus was good, but the rest of the food was just average. This is definitely a been there, done that kind of place.
Be the first to ReplyUnique and best burger in my life!!
This place is a must! Incredible bar, friendly staff and the best burger, fries and brussel sprouts, EVER!!
Be the first to ReplyAccommodated a large group
They were able to accommodate a large group. The food quality was very good. Appetizers and entrees were well liked. The wine menu is not overwhelming with some good selections. The service was very good. The decor is certainly unique. Adjacent to the marketplace.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced so-so food, great bar area
Went for dinner and complementary chips and hummus were best part of meal and we should have stopped there. Ravioli were mushy and had an odd spicy taste. Fried chicken was rubbery and gross. Wish we had stayed in bar area and just had drinks.
Be the first to ReplyGo to church
Worth the visit for a drink or their truffle burger. Their spirits selection is extensive. The staff is very polite and attentive.
Be the first to ReplyVery average with lousy service.
Don’t eat here!!! I had high hopes by this stylish restaurant. My server was nice but not efficient. He offered us lemon for our water that never arrived, it took 3 times to get some one serve our complimentary hummus and chips. When it did come it was after we finished our appetizer. Our hamburger was over cooked and the fried chicken was tasteless. My husband’s second drink was not delivered to our table till 3x asking.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful restaurant
We stopped for a drink and snack. Just beautiful. Enjoyed the wine selection. Try the pimento cheese spread.
Be the first to ReplyCustomer Service very disappointing
Our visit to the restaurant was amazing-great server, fantastic food, wonderful evening. However, my credit card was charged the wrong amount-an over charge of $80. After speaking with a manager, I was told I would be refunded, but I never was. I have called, left messages, and emailed for weeks now with no response.
Be the first to ReplyFirst disappoint in Charleston in years
Hubby and I were patrons for dinner. Hostess was lovely and as we had reservations were seated promptly. Ordered items from pre fixed menu for Restaurant Week. The salad tasted sour, main was ok, and dessert which was cheesecake tasted like it had recently been taken out of the freezer. It was hard and tasteless. Waitress seemed confused that cheesecake should be soft. Ambiance was nice, would recommend going only for drinks. Was disappointed as we had planned this spot for months prior to seeing a show. General menu is limited as well. I would recommend Queen, Magnolias, Halls for couple getaway. We travel to Charleston frequently and this was our first disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyAll atmosphere and no substance
This is a beautiful restaurant that needs an overhaul on their kitchen staff and menu. Check in with the hostess was a zoo and not properly managed. The food was disappointing and pricey. The menu was not particularly appealing and did not reflect any southern flavor.I would say this is a 20-30 yrs old hip crowd that is looking for a hip place to vibe on. Church and Union relies on its cool vibe and if you’re young and hip and looking to hang with your friends, this is your place! Just don’t expect good food.
