Disappointment, what's a word that's even less than disappointing?
What a disappointment! Recommended by Michelin? There is nothing Cuban about it here. They even refused to change from the white bread to the typical Cuban bread! French fries stuck together, the feel os like a 50's diner with old American classics blaring out of the speakers, nothing feels like Cuba in here. The staff is very friendly but as slow as can be. Do not believe Michelin on this one.
Be the first to ReplyCuban Diner in Coconut Grove
Chug's, located in Coconut Grove, provides a versatile dining experience that incorporates the best of Cuban cuisine within the ambience of a classic American diner, with booths, counter seating and laminated menus at each table. The restaurant values the traditional diner concept, reflecting it in its irresistible menu that covers different dish options from breakfast to dinner. The highlight Diner Burger sandwich, with grilled meat, caramelized onions, mustard aioli and American cheese and a perfect bun...accompanied by incredible fries!

We went to this restaurant on the inspiration of the moment. The welcome was friendly and the meal decent, without being up to Michelin standardsโฆ Furthermore, I didnโt appreciate being overpaid with the tip ($81,45!) for a meal at $64,00. Thatโs not what I had validated (2%โฆ). I find the method dishonest. .. We contacted the restaurant, without answer from themโฆ and a gesture would be welcome!
Be the first to ReplyThey tipped us $80 dollards and I am still waiting for their answer!
I have written an email to this resturant but no answer yet ! in my email I wrote that this restaurant charged us $80 dollars in tips ! we are foreigners and my companion does not understand all English , the waiter explained the dishes , I did understand but it was more complicated for him. I went to the restroom during the check and when I came back , everything was paid . We do not have this type of tipping in France so my companion thought he gave 20 % of the check . Back to France we saw the restaurant wrote $80 dollards on the receipt , and the bank accounk was debited of $150 for a meal around 60 ! I have the receipt so I hope the restaurant will get in touch with us , otherwise what a rip off for tourists . So I am still waiting for the restaurant contact because they need to refund us, that is not fair !

A really good lunch place. Especially the cuban American sandwich. Nice and serviceminded staff and a lovely vibe and area to dine both innside and outside.
Be the first to ReplyOh yeah!
Honestly, one of the best sandwitches Iโve ever eaten! Beer selection is good, very nice garden seating with a view of the street. Its a bit on the upper end on the scale for price, but I would say it was worth it!
Be the first to ReplySkip the Chef Breakfast and have anything with Lechon.
We went to this place because of the reviews we read. Plus, it was in walking distance of our hotel. I had read an article about the $10 chefโs breakfast and wanted to give that a try. My wife chose the Lechon sandwich with fries. The Chef Breakfast was a bit underwhelming, it was good and prepared to my liking, it lacked a lot of flavor. The sandwich on the other hand was perfect. The pork was tender with citrus notes that screamed traditional. I went back on my won for breakfast on the last day and had the Lechon Hash, and that was a perfect way to end the trip to Miami, lots of pork, large chunks of potato and onion and eggs cooked a perfect Sunny Side.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous coffee!!
Can only comment on the Cafe con Leche, but it was delicious!!! Walked right past Starbuckโs (and Iโm a Starbuckโs fan) every morning to get coffee here instead. Very friendly service as well!
Be the first to ReplyGood and bad at the same time
I always wanted to give this place a try, especially because of the Michelin star so we decided to have brunch there at the weekend. I did the Wedge Salad whereas my partner had the pastelitos. The salad was good but it was drenched in dressing. Although the taste was great, there was way too much dressing. One-third of the amount would have been enough. There was also oil sprinkled in the bottom of the plate, which made it even heavier. (It is possible it was the fat from the bacon, I couldn't tell.) The bacon was excellent but the combination of the dressing, the oil and the bacon is a real death sentence to your gallbladder. Next time (if there's any) I will ask the dressing on the side. The pastelitos however were perfect. Fluffy, tasty, it melted in the mouth, pampering the taste buds. Service was absolutely impersonal, and so was the overall vibe of the place. I had the feeling they did us a favor by letting us eat and spend our money there. Kind of be grateful that you can eat here feeling. But it is a general approach in most of the restaurants in Miami, so we were not surprised. The ink used to print the menu is so light that it is very hard to read so either check the menu online or bring a magnifying glass.
Be the first to ReplyUpscale Diner for everyone.
This is one of our favorite go-to places in Coconut Grove. Whenever you can't decide on a restaurant, Chugs is that perfect fall back that everyone can agree on. The food is good, the waitstaff is diner-friendly, and the location is perfect. The only complaint is that, when it's loud, it's loud.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding breakfast and incredibly friendly and knowledgeable manager
My family of 4, with kids 18 and 20, thoroughly enjoyed our recent breakfast here. My son devoured the week-aged, $17 steak-cut bacon and said it was the best bacon heโs ever had in his life. We also ordered the potato/broccoli/cheese dish and the pancake that easily fed 4. We tried the pasteles, both sweet and savory, and we highly recommend them. Casual diner setting with good ac, right in the heart of downtown Coconut Grove. Good service. Awesome manager. We look forward to returning and trying lunch.
Be the first to ReplyWhat's the fuss all about?
While researching the hotels, restaurants and attractions my wife and I planned to visit during our trip to Miami, Florida, I noticed that Chug's Diner, which had been listed in the 2022 Michelin Guide, had received several negative reviews. But friends insisted that it was an aberration, that it was a Coconut Grove institution. And if we wanted to taste what the popular Cuban pastry called pasteles or pastelitas was all about, Chug's Diner was the place to find out. So we went. And we're glad we did. Located at 3444 Main Highway in Miami, Chug's Diner began as an experiment in fusion of Cuban and American diner culture. Chef Michael "Chug" Beltran brings a Miami/Cuban/American experience to life that speaks our language. He specializes in pancakes, pastelitas, harina con huevo, masitas, rice and beans and pollo a la milanesa. Open from 8 to 3 Monday through Thursday, 8 to 11 on Friday and Saturday and 8 to 9 on Sunday, Chug's lunch menu tickled our taste buds. We started with a Wedge Salad with baby iceberg lettuce, Beltran's bacon, blue cheese, cherry tomatoes, hard-boiled egg and green goddess. For the main course, chose Chug's Burger with American cheese, pickles, shaved lettuce and Chug's special sauce on a house-made sesame bun. My wife opted for a Fritta Patty Melt with sage bread, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions, papitas and 1,000 Island dressing. For dessert, we had to sample a pastelitas, made with a corn flour dough, typically filled with meat, cheese, vegetables and fruit, then baked with guava and cream cheese. It only proves you are never too old, even at 82 years of age, to learn new tricks.
Be the first to ReplyNo service at this diner
From the moment we arrived, lots of excuses in this place for bad service. Our family arrived for breakfast on a Monday mid-morning. The hostess was nowhere to be found, we were one of 3 parties waiting in line to be seated, and the employee behind the counter said the hostess was "somewhere." She finally returned and seated us, but no server ever came to our table in the 15 minutes we sat there. No acknowledgement, no "I'll be right with you," no menu, no water. When we asked the hostess if she could send over our server, she pointed to the woman 2 booths behind us and said she was serving another customer. In fact, that man customer had already paid for their meal and the woman server had been chatting him for a nice long time, and never once looked up to see if her other customers needed to order. Chug's Diner owners, Daniela V -- why aren't you hiring responsible, conscientious people who actually work? Looking at your other reviews, clearly service is a big problem. There are lots of other restaurants in Coconut Grove ready to take your business. We found a great one down the street who immediately sat us, greeted us, poured water, and took our order. Not rocket science, just common sense. We won't come back, so at least from our experience we can save other families time and energy and just skip this restaurant for another that has service.
Be the first to ReplyBrunch is a disaster
I am not sure what all the hype is about for brunch unless we clearly ordered the wrong meals. My husband ordered eggs and bacon that was cut SUPER thick, I had the avocado toast and he ordered the massive pancake. It was more like a cake - very thick and dry. Service was nonexistent. Hostess was clueless and after a long wait we just grabbed two seats at the back bar but no one thought it was their job to clean the bar or take orders. So we had another long wait. Most disappointing was that I wanted Cuban coffee or a proper cappuccino just to find out itโs all from a machine. Wonโt be coming back. Pedestrian at best.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible and unnecessary wait
We waited over an hour for a table! The frustrating part was there were empty tables that sat empty for 15-20 minutes. Staff is slow in cleaning the tables and the host is slow in figuring out he can seat people at the table. We constantly had to notify him there were empty tables. It is an unnecessary wait. Many people came and left after being told the wait was anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. The wait could have been and should have been 25-30 minutes. The staff seem inefficient and slow, until you sit down. Our waitress (Anna or Alaina) was wonderful and apologized for the wait. The food is delicious and we were served quickly. We live in the area, and would definitely frequent the restaurant more often if it weren't for the unbearable wait.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service, best pancakes ever, super thick, great bacon
I donโt know when I went to this place in 2022 but I know I went earlier this year. The pancakes that they had were literally the best pancakes Iโve ever had. Especially when itโs complemented with maple syrup. So good. The bacon was really good too. Best part itโs located right in Coconut Grove which has a lot of action. Itโs an area that surrounded by lots of great restaurants. Now that Cocowalk is open again, the area is buzzing with a lot more activity. I thought the service was great. This is like a local diner that some people can go to for breakfast. Thereโs a lot of diners in Coconut Grove. When you think of diners. Do you think breakfast. And I think coconut grove has a big all day breakfast scene. This is a restaurant that I recommend going to if you come down to Coconut Grove I went with my stepmom Sarah and her two friends
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food Miami style
First time here yesterday morning and we are so happy we found it on Yelp! Chugs is a very cozy comfortable diner Cuban Miami style. There is indoor and outdoor dining. Indoors is more diner like and cooler. Outdoors is very tropical with lush exotic plants that you sit amongst. We sat outdoors to enjoy the Miami life style with people walking by in their most trendy clothes. Anything goes. Chugs has great brunch choices! I ordered the La Completa with eggs, thick bacon, avocado and fried potatoes with parmesan. and an iced Cafe con leche! So delicious!! Comfort food! My daughter ordered the Lechon with hash and also a Cafe con leche. She loved it. We had plenty of food left over to take home. Chugs does not skimp on portions! After we waited a while, we indulged in their signature Cast Iron pancake! To die for!! I have never seen such a tall cakey pancake with the most yummy Maple Syrup in my life. So good! We took most of it home also. The leftover tasted very good hours later also. We would like to thank Aileen, our server, who took very good care of us as well as the other servers who made sure we had cold water at all times during this heat wave. Parking is not easy to find. It's a busy area and an Uber might be better. There may be a valet close by though. My daughter dropped me off because I can't walk that far. So someone wheelchair bound could be dropped off because Chug's is definitely wheelchair accessible. It's a great place to eat at and they stay open late.
Be the first to ReplyBig portions at good prices
Clean, cool, good service. When you look at the menu and see the prices you may think it is a little expensive, until you see the food. The portions are BIG, and the taste is very good.
Be the first to ReplyNext level Cuban food flavor
Wow! What a fresh new place to the Coconut Grove area. Stopped in on a Saturday night and ordered drinks, appetizer, main dishes and dessert! The gin with lime and GUAVA was very refreshing and the slight hint of cinnamon in the old fashion was great! If you are a lover of pierogies you must try the Media Noche ones โฆ amazing !! For our main dishes we ordered the oxtail soup and shrimp with rice Sofrito. Again another two dishes with amazing flavors and spices โฆ better than homemade! Finally as if we could fit anymore we tried the passion fruit cream pie. Not too tart and a great smooth texture. Will definitely be back again for breakfast to try some other dishes!
Be the first to ReplyRIP OFF
A diner that charges $24 for meatloaf! You're having a laugh. They need to re-name this place, as people do not like to get ripped off
Be the first to ReplyA Small Cuban Gem in Coconut Grove
Came here on our way out of Miami because Greenstreet Cafe was too crowded. Man I'm glad we stumbled on this place. We were just trying Cuban for the hell of it, and the food was SO GOOD. First, due to COVID-19, you can only sit outside, which is fine. I got the frita w/ maduros(plantains). Full of flavor & taste. I wish I could have another right now! My lady got the egg & cheese breakfast sandwich, and raved about it. I wish we had this place here at home so I could indulge. My fiance had the coffee which she said was good as well. Nice, quick good food made with love. GET THE FRITA!
Be the first to ReplyCuban Coffee and a Danish
During 10 days in Coconut Grove, I think had breakfast here at least 7 times. Nice local vibe, good coffee, good service and interesting pastries. Try it!
Be the first to ReplyGo for the Coffee
This is a small, pleasant and centrally located spot in the Grove. Mostly outdoor seating, with a couple of tables inside. It has a small food menu, and the lunch sandwich I had there was generally fine, if undistinguished. That said, the cafe con leche I ordered was outstanding - darn near perfect in fact. Worth a trip for that alone.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent breakfast venue
We stopped off for a strong cuban coffee and ended up having breakfast as well. The Granola yoghurt with fruit was particularly good but so was the coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice.
Be the first to ReplyBest Modern Cuban Spot EVER!
Hands down the MOST amazing modern Cuban food EVER. Yes, dead ass serious, everything I tried has internally battled with the tastes of our Cuban ancestors and these flavors have won! Geez I cannot explain how amazing this food was for me!
So I haven't tried all the menu, but I'm SURE it's all amazing! Let's start with the frita. HOT DAMN it's phenomenal, divine, scrumptious, to die for, and every other synonyms in the thesaurus. The star of the show though was the Mamey & Guava pastelito. Listen LINDA its amazing. I am a guava pastry lover and I didn't think there could be a replacement for the cuban classic, alas I was wrong AF. I wish I could have this pastelito every damn day DEAD ASS. Considered moving close by to make this happen. the cafe con leche was amazing as well!
The ambience is so cozy, I sat in the indoor booth seating curled up with the pillows and it was legit my happy place. It was nice, it was quiet, it was amazing. There's also outdoor seating which would work if you have a dog, which is great. The staff is very friendly and super helpful which made this experience come full circle in amazingness. I will be back very soon to try the rest of the menu!
This is a definite must try! They really outdid themselves here and it shows! I see the passion and love put into this place. MUST TRY. BUCKET LIST MUST. Thank me later!
