A little pricey but SO WORTH IT! We ate at so many amazing places in Charleston and this was hands down, our favorite! The service was great, the handwritten menu that changes daily was adorable, but nothing compares to the food! I have been trying to find duck prepared as well as the one I had here, but I cannot. I have been to highly rated French restaurants in NYC and Paris and this is still my favorite!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic French food.
Great for celebrating and the soufflé is so delicious. I had the duck and took half home with me. It is a long drive for us but it's worth it. The service was excellent.

My birthday dinner at Chez Nous in Charleston was a memorable affair, thanks to impeccable service and a charming ambiance. However, while the limited menu raised expectations for excellence, not every dish lived up to the hype. Let's start with the disappointments. The grouper with Pistachio & Olive, priced at around $50, left much to be desired in terms of flavor. It lacked the punch and vibrancy one would expect at this price point. Additionally, the Zabaione custard dessert tasted overwhelmingly of rum, bordering on bitterness. While I appreciate the concept of alcoholic desserts, this one missed the mark on sweetness and balance. But fear not, the meal wasn't all gloom and doom. The appetizers truly stole the show. The Fennel on Toasted Bread was a delicate yet flavorful delight, while the Kale Salad with Dates & Parmesan Dressing was a perfect balance of sweet and savory. I couldn't find a single fault with these dishes. And then there was the Gnocchetti with Walnut Pesto, which was nothing short of divine. Imagine the most elevated version of mac and cheese you've ever had, with the richness of cheese perfectly complemented by the subtle nuttiness of walnuts. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, leaving me longing for more. In conclusion, Chez Nous offers a mixed bag of culinary experiences. While some dishes may fall short of expectations, others shine brightly enough to make the visit worthwhile. If you're willing to take a gamble, you might just find your new favorite dish. Just be sure to indulge in those appetizers and perhaps steer clear of the boozy desserts if you're craving something sweet.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful meal, outstanding service, and a great experience.
Some cushions on the chairs are needed.

Neat old house right in the center of town. Packed on a February Tuesday night

Tucked into an alleyway in downtown Charleston is the little hidden treasure, Chez Nous. This is exactly what we were looking for when we asked local ppl where we should eat. Creative, quaint, unique and lovely from start to finish. We did not plan in advance so we had to settle for a 9:30 reservation but we knew it would absolutely be worth it and were happy grab that time spot. The daily menu of 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts is handwritten and changes with the seasons, availability of fresh local produce/proteins and the whim of the chef. Cuisine is a blend of Southern France, Northern Italy and Northern Spain. We loved the ambiance, the service, the amazing food and would absolutely go back again. Fun night out to be adventurous and trust the chef! And that nut tart for dessert made my little heart so happy, perfect!

Two words come to mind after having an amazing dinner at Chez Nous. Shock and Awe. Not in the sense of a western country's geopolitical strategy to rally domestic support behind an unattractive venture, more in the sense of utter disbelief that we've never dined here before. From the amazing service, ambiance, to the delicious meal, everything blew me away. I feel ashamed some people will never know the joy I felt leaving Chez Nous, belly full, head full of wine, and walking the Charleston streets home to my bed. Godspeed. I will be back soon.

Be the first to ReplyInteresting concept with their daily changing menu.
Menu was hand written with flavors inspired from France and Spain. Food was delicious and highly recommending this spot d as it will never get old with theirs varying menu items and knowledgeable wait staff.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a phenomenal dinner.
Truly memorable. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and the atmosphere was perfect. It's cozy and simple but the house is very Charleston and the food couldn't have been better. We specially appreciated the chance to try dishes we normally wouldn't even know about. All was prepared and executed to perfection and we hope to be back soon!
Be the first to ReplyVery unique dinning experience.
If you are looking for that old Charleston feel this is the place for you. The restaurant is located in a historic old home. On the pricy side of Charleston cuisine but a nice place for a special occasion.

Charming restaurant in a quiet location with lovely outdoor seating area and a rotating menu that always has delicious options!
Be the first to ReplyBest food in Charleston.
Truly. Always so special. If there is fish on the menu, get that!

The service was good , but for the price the food was not very good. It was really heavy and vastly over salted.
Be the first to ReplyNice location and cool ambiance and vibe.
Nice staff and attentive to the table. Mussel appetizer and pear walnut salad was amazing! Wife and I ordered the pork chop and so sad it was dry, but no worries waiter brought over the manager ( I think) and offered another or to try the fish - Wreck fish was amazing and they took the 2 pork chops off the bill. Now this is what customer service is about!I will tell you that we had to have a one off on the pork chops because the table next to us had 2 chops as well and they were able to easily put there fork in and cut them. They looked amazing and cooked correctly!

hands down, the most amazing meal that i've had in charleston. this quaint and cozy restaurant is the perfect date spot, with its intimate lighting and ambience. our server was kind and attentive, and explained everything on the menu (so no worries if you can't decipher the handwriting)we tried everything on their 12/27 menu (save for the smoked trout salad w banyuls) and it's evident that each dish is thought out and made with care. with their daily revolving menu, it may be pointless to review the food but i'd be remiss not to mention how we used the bread to sop up the rich sauce of the fish and clashed over who got to finish the homemade pine nut ice cream. definitely would come here every day if i could

Absolutely incredible food -- nothing overly fancy, just great techniques and flavor profiles. Favorite hidden gem and such a romantic little spot!Every day Chef Jill Mathias' beautifully handwritten menus adorn the tables. Each day there are only two options for appetizer, entree, and dessert for both lunch and dinner. So I recommend coming Herr with someone who isn't picky and is adventurous, so that you can really enjoy what the menu has to offer. There are only about 36 seats inside and 20 communal seats outside in the walled garden, so it can get easily booked up at peak times of day or times of year. They're on Resy, so you can make a digital reservation! Outside of food, there's also a wine menu for you to enjoy, should you want a drink.Service is great and the ambiance is cute and rustic! Don't be surprised when you see a business card for Malagon in your check book, as that's the sister restaurant of Chez Nous (and absolutely delicious as well).
Be the first to ReplyThe food was excellent- every course was great.
The service was friendly and cordial and knowledgeable. Ambience was relaxed but classy French countryside.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for dessert and was not disappointed.
The ambiance, staff, meticulously crafted menu options and hand written menu really make this place super special.
Be the first to ReplyI don't understand why people love this place.
The food was at best mediocre. My first course was salt cod that was drowning in a vinegar sauce. My companion had a squash salad that also had too much dressing. The gnudi in tomato sauce was ok but I've had better from Lean Cuisine. My fish was adequate. Both desserts were bad: lemon tart should have had some cream; it was dry and had no lemon flavor. The zabaglione had way too much booze. We added the zabaglione to the lemon tart to make both desserts palatable. Service was fine. Definitely will not return.
Be the first to ReplyWent with a party of 5 and the server wasnt super friendly.
Both of us that had ragu had food poisoning. I woke up in the middle of the night and puked. Pretty expensive to be having that happen
Be the first to ReplyHad excellent service and food.
..everyone was very helpful and friendly...also the food was delicious and very well presented
Be the first to ReplyThis was the first restaurant we visited in Charleston.
It's very unique because it is essentially a very old house converted into a restaurant. The indoor area seems very small downstairs but they also have an upstairs which I didn't see. The outdoor seating looks gorgeous but unfortunately it was raining on the day we went. They have a very limited menu - only 6 items the day we went (2 salads, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts). The menu is either handwritten or used a font that I found difficult to read. For 2 people we ordered 1 salad and both entrees. They start you off with bread (but nothing to go with it like butter for some reason...). Sautéed peppers with ham salad ($19): 5/5 this salad was absolutely incredible! All the veggies were perfectly crispy and the thin slices of meat paired really well with the veggiesFish with some kind of sauce ($38): 5/5 this was also very good! The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I wish there was more fish in the dish. For $38 I thought it was a bit overpriced but the flavors were on pointPork belly with lentils ($34): 3/5 I found the pork belly cuts to be too fatty so I couldn't eat too much of thisOverall I enjoyed visiting Chez nous but thought it was a little overpriced. Also wish they had more options on their menu so you wouldn't be limited to 2 options for entrees.
Be the first to ReplyThe menu is not legible especially online.
The handwriting is pretty but I find it impossible to read.

I don't know if I have the words to convey what Chez Nous means to me but I will never ever EVER get tried of eating here. I don't even need to look at the menu. I will order everything and it will be good. Wonderful, simple but oh so elegant dishes. No frills or gimmicks just letting beautiful ingredients shine through. It's like eating at someone's house, a home cooked meal but that person is a renowned chef. I fall in love every time I go. And I go A LOT. Yes yes great for dates blah blah blah. Probs not kids. Bar seats, tables and outdoors all available. But really all you need to know is this is one of maybe 3 places I would travel back to Charleston for.
