This restaurant was so amazing.
The food was good quality. Everything was well-cooked. I just had dinner there yesterday. I had the pork shoulder and Caesar which I enjoyed so much. The meat was tender and not so chewy. The flavor was just right and taste so delicious. The menu was good and food has great portion size.

The ambience and service were excellent, and the place was full of energy for Sunday brunch. The food itself has some really amazing standouts, like the pancakes, which were literally the best we've ever had. Unfortunately, some of the other things we ordered, like the white fish and the frittata, were just okay. The pancakes make it worth the effort and I will be going back for more.

Popped in before they had to temporarily close for building reno. Tried the viral pancakes- I wish I had read a bit more on them before I added additional syrup on top, my bad. These were yummy but very dense and rich, probably better to share than to eat a whole plate (2 pancakes) by yourself. I did really enjoy the griddled texture of these, a satisfying crunch from the crispy edges/surface but fluffy, cake like interiors. Let's also be honest- they are very visually pleasing with their uniform round shape. ( The crunch sem I also decided to get the pigs head terrine to try something new. This reminded me some-what of a ham- salad. it was delicious and I loved this paired with the fresh, pickled carrots and jalapenos. The salty/spicy/fresh combo was crave able. Again, a dish I wish I could share with another person as after a few bites I was finished. Loved the minimalist, clean interior and light filled space. It's a bummer they will shut down for awhile. 4/5

.. but the portions are small. Like almost too small to recommend this place. So I came here because people are obsessed with their pancakes. I came in and found a cute bistro with excellent service. I was seated properly and the staff was very attentive. I ordered the pancakes assuming it would be enough food. 2 pancakes for $16 is expensive but I heard these pancakes were excellent, even some of the best in the city. These pancakes were TINY. Just a bit bigger than silver dollar pancakes. Now they were delicious but the plate needs at least 4 pancakes to justify the price. It's frankly outrageous. Still hungry, I ordered the salmon plate. The salmon was good, you can tell it was cured in house and tasted really nice. The portion was still pretty small with the strips of salmon being small. Once I at this I was satiated but not full. All in all the food was tasty but small. This place is for you if you want to leave hungry.

Their pancakes were a delight, crispy edges and a thickness that nearly surpassed that of a silver dollar pancake. Served in pairs with a slice of butter on top and generously drizzled with real maple syrup, it truly hit the spot. Finding this spot was a stroke of luck - it's now my go-to for delicious pancakes. Highly recommended!

I came here a few weeks ago for dinner and can't wait to go back. Delicious duck confit. Great service, food and ambiance!
Be the first to ReplyThe pancakes were absolutely delicious.
I ordered the kedgeree -- an item I've never seen on a menu in the US (but that my Granny would often make). Nothing like hers but still quite good. Husband had the egg sandwich, which was "fine" he said. Service was very efficient and despite being prime brunch time we were in and out very quickly.

Walk don't run to Chez Ma Tante before they close for renovations! Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the city that I'll miss while it's away. They've earned the 5 stars from me on multiple occasions. Walking in to Chez Ma Tante, you're greeted with the buzz of chatter, beautiful light fixtures, and friendly faces that all signal a good time. I recommend a cocktail--their list is usually on the classic side of inventive but always really well put together and with a small twist of ingredients that keeps things fresh. Service is consistently excellent, helpful, friendly and just the right touch. The food is sublime. I've never had a dish here that I didn't think was cooked to perfection. We can't go without pigs head terrine (think the most succulent corned beef-like thing you've ever had) when we come, but the rest of the menu we treat as a rotating delight. Most recently, really well executed smoked white fish that came adored with fish roe to elevate a simple dish, stracciatella with charred cabbage that is just begging to go on their wonderful bread, and duck leg confit that just melted away with the perfect decadent sauce. A word on the sauce generally: it's the consistently the best I've had anywhere in the city. Whatever dish a sauce touches at Chez Ma Tante comes together effortlessly. Dessert is always a delight--most recently, almond tart that was just the right sweetness and texture and a buttermilk panna cotta with pickled grapes that was phenomenal. The wine list is notable too--natural choices range from elegant to more on the natty side, but always managing to complement the food. Get it while it's hot, I think they may still have a couple of bottles of this Jura number, J'en veux encore!!! that their somm worked hard on an allocation for. I could carry on and talk about the ambiance continuing into the bathrooms, but I think you get the picture. Walk don't run before they're on hiatus!

Food tasted good (though the quiche, while delicious, was cold on the inside and featured a small hair on the plate). We were told the table would take 90 min and we ended up waiting 2 hours and 15 minutes for our table. The portions were also a little small for our liking. Again, food tasted great, but you can get that elsewhere at more reasonable prices and for less hassle.

A staple brunch spot in Greenpoint and one of the best pancakes I've ever had! If you're craving something sweet and decadent, look no further! Similar to Clinton Street and it's crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside but doesn't need extra compote or maple butter! Walked in on a weekend and sat at the bar. Definitely recommend a reservation for a group. Country pate and Turkish coffee cake was okay, a little underwhelming compared to the pancakes.

Underwhelming American/Canadian food that has a great reputation by word of mouth/internet but not as dynamic as you would hope in person. The pancakes were a healthy serving though; big enough to share between two people. $15 a dish. 3.5/5 stars as a breakfast spot.

I would suggest hiring someone else to be the face of your restaurant for brunch. Brunch is about good vibes and he's a brunch vibe killer. That out of the way - ARE THESE BEST PANCAKES I'VE EVER HAD?! I was still thinking about them on the drive home, when I was thinking of what to get for dinner, and now a day later. Since it's so fresh on my mind, I'm seriously going to Clinton St. Bakery next weekend for a third time this month to make a definitive decision.Chips and aioli sounds so simple and maybe even an afterthought, but it ended up being some of the best brunch potatoes I've ever had. Mimosas were nothing special but good enough for the vibes. The breakfast sandwich was cool but not a must have. The sausage was unique in a good way; reminded me of duck liver pate, I wonder if it's in the blend.I'm definitely coming back for pancakes and to try more of the menu. To be continued...
Be the first to ReplyVERY limited menu.
We went for the famous pancakes as they were two large, thick pancakes with crispy edges. They were pre-syruped so they were a bit too syrupy and sweet for our liking. Definitely an overrated dish. The lack of options also hurt the ratings. Could not even get a side of scrambled eggs, had to order a quiche instead. For the protein, we ordered Bayonne ham which was thinly shredded ham spread out on a plate. A nice minimalistic set up, however not much to order from, and not the greatest food.

Solo dining experience I got there around 230 and grabbed a quick seat at the bar. Had a vodka Bloody Mary (would get something else next time, wish an espresso martini was on the menu), the chicken pate and the pancakes. The food is fantastic. The bread that comes with the pate is the perfect doughy consistency and the pate is really a nice spread. The pancakes are this perfect crispy, soak up the syrup without becoming a soggy mess dish. This place transports you to escaping a chilly morning in an upstate country house with homemade breakfast vibes.

Pretty good spot for hybrid American-Canadian food in Greenpoint. With a minimal interior and friendly service, it feels a bit forgetful at times besides some great dishes. I ordered the falafel, which you can upgrade to a bigger size (I did). The falafel was cooked great, and the side salad had a bit too much of a herby bite since it was all herbs. The hummus it was drenched in was flavorful as well, but the dish felt very heavy. The portion was big enough to easily opt for leftovers. A bit overpriced, this is a simple spot without a whole lot to differentiator itself with.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here for brunch.
I was very excited to try the pancakes. I typically like a pancake with a crisp exterior, but I think our pancake order was a bit more burnt than intended so I was not a huge fan.

My GF and I have passed this place dozens of times with plans to go elsewhere. Finally, we tried it, and wow, we were not disappointed. Fantastic spot with high quality cuisine at not-too-awful prices. Really enjoyed my sausage and my GF's caesar was on point. Next time coming for the roast chicken. Our waiter was amazing too. She knew everything about the menu and steered us in the right way from the get go. My GF said she would "trust her with my life." Can't wait to come back!

The restaurant offered to cover our drinks which was a nice gesture. I would say this is definitely a brunch spot you want to try if you're in the mood for some pancakes. The pancakes were to die for, a mix of crispy on the outside and soft and gooey in the middle. Just the texture you want. As for the savory food, the cod was delicious. All in all, I would recommend this spot and would return again to try other items!
Be the first to ReplyChez Ma Tante is a Brooklyn staple that wows the palette.
The person I dined with volunteered to order the chicken liver pate and while I was skeptical, I'm so glad we went for it--a fascinating flavor pairing with the sauce it arrived with. The half roast chicken with romesco and grilled onions was also a delight, though the sauce was a bit overwhelming and I wasn't a huge fan of the skin's texture. But dessert stole the show (how could it not?) with a decadent maple crème brûlée -- perfectly crisp top layer of caramelized sugar that invites you to the treasure it contains: a rich, cream that'll be gone before you know it. This is my second time at Chez Ma Tante -- I went for brunch months ago, and it was also a delight! Get the Oslo coffee if you can.

Had a fantastic meal this evening, consisting primarily of apps and one shared main (for two of us). My wife has a bunch of food allergies (wheat, dairy, and soy among others) and it was still very east. We had a dozen oysters, chips with aioli, a country pork pate, a kohlrabi salad with apples and onions, and a fennel sausage entree with potatoes and turnips.Everything was terrific. The oysters come with a Meyer lemon garnish that works perfectly, and the kohlrabi salad - while it sounds relatively innocuous - was incredible, and served as a nice contrast from all the richer dishes. A handful of apps and one main (plus some wine) left us feeling more than satisfied, and I'm a guy who can eat.Well played. Chez Ma Tante. Well played.
Be the first to ReplyMe and my partner had a wonderful dinner here tonight.
We ordered the chips, olives and stracciatella to start. They were the perfect portion sizes to share for an appetizer. We especially enjoyed the Aioli that came with the chips - DELICIOUS!! For my main, I got the falafel which was equally as rich as it was tasty. As a side note, the hostess Zoe was incredibly kind and accommodating. She consistently asked us how she could accommodate us and made us feel so welcomed. We LOVED her!! Will definitely be coming back. 5 stars - but would give more if I could!!!!

I've never tried kedgeree before but we were recommended this restaurant by a friend. It's a pretty healthy dish with unique flavours. We also wanted to try the pancakes but they're only available on the weekends so we might have to come back!
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is phenomenal, worth the trip to Greenpoint.
We had the falafel, half roast chicken, curried rice, oysters, almond tart and chocolate cake. The curried rice and falafel are a MUST. The ambience was minimalistic but perfect vibes for an unpretentious yet chic group dinner.

Came on a weekend brunch with a reservation which is highly recommended. Average seating inside. Friendly and timely service. Good wine options and cocktails. Slightly above average pricing overall.1. Oysters - Good quality oysters. Not overpowering.2. Chicken pate - Comes with bread and is smooth tasting3. Turkish coffee cake - Soft. Flavorful. Very fragrant.4. Kedgeree - My favorite with its mix of ingredients. We split this among 4 people. Very flavorful!5. Pig head terrine with egg - Average to good. Nothing too new here for me.6. Pancakes - Think of fried pancakes saturated in syrup. Delicious! But not if you have diabetes.Overall an excellent high quality brunch! Highly recommended to try.
