Chavela's Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year

Incredible service from Nahuel! He sold me on their special frozen cocktail and it was such a hit. The food was also incredible and so fast. Loved this experience.

Both hosts were very rude and obnoxious from the moment we entered to the moment we left. it left a bad taste. my friend and I were disgusted. we were rushed to pay and leave very rudely.

I love, love, love Chavela's vibes so I have to start my review with that! I've been coming here for years and it has only gotten better in terms of the experiences I've been having. I know they closed some time back for renovations and I think it looks very eclectic, while still giving a cozy and inviting aesthetic. I will start my review of the food by saying that while I understand that they have to cater to the neighborhood's ever-changing demographic, Chavela's still needs to keep in mind that the food is Latin American and should have some flavor. We can't be preparing dishes of Mexican/Latin American/Caribbean culture and having it taste like it was cooked without love (aka seasoning). I've felt this way for some time now, but held off on writing a review because I felt maybe I'd caught them on a bad day. But now I have to say something because it's been the last few times I've visited. I'm not saying it's "all bad" because that'd be a blatant lie. However, some dishes were lacking the extra umph they needed to be standouts. For example, the seafood empanadas: they were filled with shrimp, crab meat, baby spinach and served with roasted tomato salsa. The presentation was great! The flakiness of the crust was PERFECT! However, after biting into it, the thrill got lost. No flavor whatsoever. Bland! I was most excited for this because I am a seafood lover and I feel like it's pretty hard to get seafood completely wrong, but this dish missed the mark. It was SO CLOSE to being amazing! All it needed was a little seasoned salt, black pepper, seafood seasoning, all-purpose seasoning--ANYTHING! It was underwhelming. I'm hoping that someone will see this review and that maybe (just maybe!) they will put some flavor in it for the people who TRULY LOVE AND KNOW good food! The main course of Pescado a la Veracruzana was great--for me. It was salmon baked with olives, capers, tomatoes, sweet peppers and rice. I loved that dish! It's one of my go-to's. The salmon was cooked just how I like it, crispy crust, but well-done meat. However, my brother had the same thing and his salmon was undercooked. It was pinkish-red on the inside and he wasn't feeling it so he didn't finish it. Can't blame him! We're Jamaican. We're not eating half raw/half baked salmon. The drinks were delicious, as usual. I had a mezcal margarita, my brother had a strawberry margarita and my sister had a drink called La Fresa (blanco tequila, strawberry puré, luxardo, cava, lime). All in all, the experience was a good one. Just hoping for some more flavor to be added to the dishes. Yes, gentrification is happening, but the quality of the food shouldn't have to suffer. Sincerely, a Flatbush foodie!
Food: 3.
9/5 The food was okay. We went there for brunch and we're hoping that regular menu items are better. I had the Huevo con bistec - the steak was a bit bland and the meal was small in terms of portion size. It was one egg. Service: 5/5 Very attentive and friendly. Things were run effectively and the staff made the experience very pleasurable. Ambiance:4.5/5 Pretty cozy spot with a bunch of personality. I love the decor in the bathroom.
Really solid Mexican spot in Crown Heights! I was surprised
Really solid Mexican spot in Crown Heights! I was surprised that my group 4 was seated right away on a busy Saturday afternoon. No complaints here tho! We were really impressed with the aesthetic -- it gave a traditional Mexican feel which was nice. We also really enjoyed our agua frescas! Shoutout to our server for recommending the strawberry one which was a huge hit at our table! Everyone enjoyed their food and the prices here are not bad at all. Definitely will try this place again when craving Mexican.
Very good food.
Always crowded and busy which can be overwhelming on the ears and not Covid safe, but tasty.
I will probably never come here again The food is not good
I will probably never come here again The food is not good at all. Ordered quesadillas and it was a deep fried taco like an empanada nothing like a regular quesadilla. The best thing I ate was the avocado taco everything else was not good. There is no seasoning on anything. They don't take reservations so you're waiting for like 30 minutes to get a table. Other than the food being bad they charge you for everything, we asked for limes they charged for limes, we asked for sour cream they charged for sour cream and never told us those come at additional cost. The customer service was good but other than that. I won't be going back.
Now, I come here for the vibes and drinks.
I love their margaritas. I would suggest getting a handmade margarita because it is superior to the others. Now, to the food because if you are going to drink, well, you will eat. The best thing to order when sharing is the Plato Don. If I am stopping in for a drink, I have the Guacamole. The only thing that I am not a fan of is the greasy tortillas. When the place is busy, the service is average, you get your food quickly, and you have to wait a bit before your waiter checks in to see how things are going.

5 stars *** We came here after visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and it was crazy fast. Despite a crowd, we got a table for two within minutes and our tacos also came out within minutes. The shrimp taco was okay (would pass next time) but the mole was great. Two were quite filling and a great deal at $5 and $6. Not the most authentic place, but it hit the spot!
10/10 experience every time.
I honestly can't go here enough. Great vibes, great food. Love it here.
A must visit Mexican restaurant
Visited Chavelas twice this week for dinner while on holiday in NYC. Great staff and amazing buzz and it's very popular with locals. Great margaritas, guacamole and pretty much everything!
Delicious food and quick service
Chavela’s was really busy on Sunday evening of Labour Day weekend, but service was very efficient. And the food was amazing! I had shrimp enchiladas and my sisters had Chile Relleno. Yummy!

That's what AT sponsorships are for - and you are only paying 25% in the first year and then less in year two and three.
I beliebe @EternalAnt36 was sponsored by @PerceptiveWash44 and is now doing $25k/mo.
You can write on the top sellers profiles (type 'Top 10' in the searchbar) and then tap request sponsorship button after you found the guy or gal like to work with!
