Special Restaurant
Fabulous restaurant! They catered to our dietary needs (severe case of Celiac Disease) by ensuring all food was prepared separately, with only gluten free ingredients, and the use of new cooking ware. Chef Suzy is a magician. Our favorite dishes were: Strawberry Gazpacho, Mushroom Risotto, and the extremely unique and delicious “Cigar” for dessert. Romantic atmosphere, enhanced by Julie’s attention to detail in service. In addition to these two superstars, a million thank yous to Chef Gabriel (Head of Culinary at Charleston Place) and Chelsea for having created such a memorable dining experience. My wife and I felt like we were royalty dining here. Truly next level. Thanks, everyone!
Upscale food, excellent service lovely dining room.
The tables are not close to each other so it feels intimate. Pricey but definitely worth the splurge.
We had our date night at Charleston Grill last week.
We haven't been to this restaurant for quite a while. And this place offer a fine dining experience. We had early dinner reservation which was at 5:45 pm. Our waiter, James, was knowledgeable with the menu, very attentive with our needs and he had another server that came and help him that night, Sasha, and she was very sweet and always made sure our water refilled and our table and food deliver promptly. For starter, we had yellowfin tuna nicoise and it was amazing! It seared both sides with seasalt and the nicoise sauce was so good! Our waiter brought us crab cake as a compliment for our table and it was fantastic! Its a good size of crab meat with vierge sauce and caper, my favorite. Sasha brought us the sour bread and herb bread to our table and a small sauce plate with greek yogurt, Pomegranate and orange spices while we were waiting for our main course. Then for my main course I had local catch, which was crusted snapper that taste amazing! Love the spicy sauce that they made with Italian chili pepper and I asked James to replace the wax beans with brocollini which the chef was able to accommodate it. My husband had Chantel farm wagyu tenderloin from local farm in Augusta, Ga. It cooked to perfection and came with potatoes puree and amazing mushroom and the serve on top of bourgingnon sauce, I trued the steak and it was amazing. For appetizer, we opted the amazing apple desert that came with apple sorbet and they were party in my mouth! James also brought a brownie and coconut ball as q compliment for our table. I love all these food compliments that made our dinner feel special. Our meal and the drink selection at this place are top notch! The service quality and the atmosphere of this restaurant were excellent! The manager came to our table to check on us and we got to talk about the steak and some local favorite restaurants that he recommended. A must visit restaurant for sure.
Top shelf restaurant
Anniversary dinner here. Our waiter James was amazing! He was so well versed in the menu. We had questions regarding the menu and James knew all the details of each item on the menu. We ended up choosing the asparagus starter As well as the crab and Oyster starter. My husband ordered the catch of the day and I had the flounder . Both were delicious! Service was outstanding! Cocktails and wine was top shelf. If ever in Charleston I highly recommend going.
Service and entire experience are as good as it gets with
Service and entire experience are as good as it gets with this restaurant. This is NOT a fried fish platter, wear whatever you rolled out of bed in type of place. If you're looking for something special and a really good meal, then bring the card with the higher limit and enjoy yourself because they'll treat you like you are their only table for the night and you'll have a great meal. Live music, and FYI, this is not a night club setting, so it'll be soothing jazz and light blues music here, which is perfect if you have class. Enjoy.
A true delight
This was a great evening and a great meal. It was a restaurant that probably ranks in my top five ever! My friend started with the dirty Martini and I had the house cross between a Manhattan and an old fashion. Our waiter, James, was quite knowledgeable about the menu, which was so important for a great meal. For example, while he thought the crab cake was great, because we were from Maryland warned us away- no old bay in the recipe! The amuse bouche was a cold corn chowder. For our appetizer we each had the yellow tuna credo. It was accompanied with pickled radish, with citrus pearls and a chili yogurt base. It was incredible. For our second we shared the asparagus salad, which was served over an onion bacon jelly. My friend was not a fan. I thought it was OK. For the entree, my friend had the shawarma spice rubbed venison, with roasted radishes. It was delicious. I had the fresh catch, which was pan seared flounder, served with roasted broccolini and a turnip and carrot purée. It was equally good. For dessert we shared the chocolate cigar. It looked exactly like a cigar and was served in an ashtray. The cigar had a dark chocolate mouse wrapped in sugar paper. In the ash tray were meringue “ashes” over a caramel custard. It was as delicious as it was unique. The service, the food and the atmosphere were impeccable. I would highly recommend dinner here if you’re going to be in Charleston for any reason.

Charleston Grill is one of those places where you walk into and you know everything is going to be just fine. The service is top notch. Everyone from the waiter to the bus boy is at the top of their game. I recommend the venison. A few times
EXCELLENT FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION!
This establishment is a superb 5-star dining experience for any special occasion! The atmosphere is upscale, posh, located in a gorgeous top-notch hotel in the heart of town. Valet parking is provided, which is quite convenient. The service was quite attentive with every detail offered with finesse. Last Friday evening, our first visit, celebrating a birthday, we were seated in a cozy romantic booth for two, great for people watching. We enjoyed the nice relaxing live trio performing. Kudos to our two female servers, and the General Manager, who made his welcoming presence known. One could either order from the menu selections a la carte, or from the award winning chef's tasting menu. We opted for the tasting menu, which our preference was mainly seafood. Each of the six courses were quite interesting, tasty, and innovative! My favorite, however, was the delicious crab cake, and absolutely heavenly divine dessert! Our dessert was a very beautiful chef creation, delectable party in the mouth, light sorbet with extra touches, subtle sweetness, and very refreshing! Reservations much in advance is suggested for a great once-in-a-lifetime memorable experience!!
A must go for foodies!
This restaurant is a haven for foodies. My husband & I enjoyed our dinner at Charleston Grill so much, we will be dreaming about it for some time to come. It was probably one of the best meals we’ve ever had, and that is saying something. To start, we were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary chef’s bite which was pressed watermelon with an Asian vinaigrette & cucumber. Doesn’t sound like anything special, but oh it was. Then we were offered rolls…the brioche was out of this world. We had the crab cake appetizer which was crazy good. My husband was sure it wouldn’t be as good as his, but he had to eat his words literally. Next was our entrees where we decided to split the filet & the risotto. They were kind enough to split the filet onto two plates for us. I’m drooling just remembering this meal, it was so good. We had been planning to go somewhere else for dessert, but decided we didn’t want to eat anywhere else, so we got dessert there. It did not disappoint. The chocolate cigar for me & some sort of cake & gelato concoction for my husband. I’m pretty sure it will be hard for us to not go back to Charleston Grill next time we’re in town.

Nightly jazz in an elegant setting. Great special occasion place!
A world class experience.
Thank you to the staff and kitchen. The food was perfect, the staff was fantastic. We had a great time. Thank you
Very nice Upscale Restaurant
Very nice upscale restaurant in Downtown Charleston. We were there on Mother’s Day and they managed the crowd very well . Servers (Brian and Agee) were excellent, food was excellent, and the live music too was excellent, tasteful and not too loud. Well done! I’ll go back.
Stars are for ambiance, great service and cleanliness.
The main attraction however was lackluster. Nothing we ordered was seasoned very well and the portions were tiny considering the prices. Won't return except maybe to the bar.

Many of the local restaurants are overrated, but not Charleston Grill. Great ambiance, service, and the food is fantastic. The knowledgeable staff will help with a wine or cocktail selection to add to your experience. I recommend a jacket for men as this is an upscale venue. Go here, it's worth it.

Amazing food, and excellent service! What a great team of professionals! The evening could not have been better.
Great food and soft jazz.
Everything we tried was even more excellent than we hoped for: the squab, the lobster cavetelli, and the apple tartin. The half bottle of Cheni Blanc was excellent (Le Haut Lieu). We were fawned over by a team of servers. The restaurant itself is an odd beige artless space except for the opulent vases of flowers. However a fine bass player and pianist gave the room all the romantic atmosphere you could hope for. And we could still talk to each other softly. How many restaurants can you say that about these days? Overall it was a great evening.

The food was exceptional and was equaled by the classy, knowledgeable, and friendly staff. Just an overall wonderful experience. Our friends that live there had dined at Charleston Grill. It was our first time and exceeded our expectations. My wife and I both had salads with an avocado dressing and then differing dinners with fish. Delicious and exquisite. We enjoyed our Pinot Noir choice. Lastly, the desserts were ridiculously unique. The entire experience was 10/10!
Superlative dining
Superb restaurant with exceptional service. Food was excellent - had a very interesting pea dish and beef for main course. Attentive staff who were very accommodating regarding dietary restrictions. Their goal seemed to be to ensure that we had an outstanding dining experience. Extensive wine list. Highly recommended for special occasions or high end dining.
Awesome food, service and ambiance
My wife and I had dinner here and it was excellent!!! I had the lobster cavatelli, and my wife had the flounder. We're not heavy eaters so we skipped the appetizers. I couldn't resist the dessert though: I had "The Cigar" - an out of the world dessert with custard and meringue in the shape of a cigar, in a glass dish the shape of a cigar-ash tray. The service was exceptional. We'll definitely return.
Exceptional dining experience
It’s a exceptional experience. Food, service, wine, absolute attention to detail. It’s as good as it gets. All the staff payed attention to every detail. They made us feel like we were the most important people they had to please.
Terrific steaks! Beware of ordering their "bucket list"
Terrific steaks! Beware of ordering their "bucket list" glasses of wibe-even though they use the best per glass storage technology available, wine seemed a bit off. Otherwise was a wonderful experience (and the house cab is excellent).
Best fine dining experience in South Carolina!
Surprised my wife on her Birthday/Valentes Day with an over the top delicious dinner. The managers and all staff were aware of the significance of the date and were very attentive and hospitable. The food presentations including the B'day cake excellent. The local snapper was delicious as was my wife's gourmet vegetable entre. Thank you to our waiter James, the sommelier and Julie the G.M. Big thank you to Brenna, Director of Group Sales, who always does an exceptional job of insuring all our tour guests who come to stay at the Charleston Place Hotel have a memorable visit.
This classy, upscale restaurant inside the Charleston Place
This classy, upscale restaurant inside the Charleston Place Hotel is one of the best spots in the city for a romantic dinner, with elegant decor, a reserved ambiance, and live jazz playing softly in the background. And the food is equally compelling -- on a recent visit, my wife and I started with a delicious Lump Crab Cake before diving into fabulous dishes of Seared Scallops and Loin of Lamb. The quality of the food was outstanding, but service was a bit slow and the Old Fashioned I ordered with dinner was more than a little disappointing. But aside from a few quibbles, Charleston Grill delivers when it comes to serving up wonderful Low Country cuisine in a gorgeous setting that's perfect for making memories with that Special Someone -- or even with someone who's not that special. Recommended.
Perfection
Wonderful anniversary dinner. The food and staff were both excellent. We enjoyed this experience as well as some Michelin-rated restaurants we’ve dined at in Europe. Thanks to all the staff for helping to make our anniversary special!
I was not prepared and my phone died so I was not able to
I was not prepared and my phone died so I was not able to capture any photos. If you're able to, make reservations so you're not hoping you can get in. Beautiful place to enjoy a nice meal for any occasion. It is open and airy, almost a little romantic in my opinion. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We ordered the Vietnamese pork, seared scallops and beef tartar. All was delicious and prepared well. This is a more expensive place but the experience is worth it, especially if you don't live in the area. Located in historic downtown so you can take a nice walk afterwards. I really wished I had photos but guess I'll save it for next time!
Food was good, but had other meals over the extended
Food was good, but had other meals over the extended weekend at other local restaurants that were as good or better for less money. This price point demands top shelf food and service. It fell short of 5 stars. Flounder was dry, drinks were supposed to be comped but weren't.
One of the best steak houses in Charleston
Excellent service, perfectly cooked food. The four of us visited this restaurant last year so we decided to go there again because we were so pleased with both the food and service. Again, we were not disappointed. Our server, Jimmie, was brilliant in his service of our table. Steaks were done to perfection (thank you Chef) and the sides we ordered to share were delicious. A perfect evening at one of Charleston’s best. We will return.
Luxury food and experience
We had a once in lifetime dining experience at the Charleston Grill! The food and the service are absolutely top-notch. Several different waiters came over throughout the course of our meal to check on us. They are all experts on the menu and the ingredients are fresh and great quality. Even the pre-appetizer bread was fantastic. They brought us bites of several dishes just for us to try as well besides our order, including chocolate truffles for dessert. They sat us near the jazz duo as we requested which was wonderful. Definitely recommend getting a reservation to eat here - it is worth the hype and more!
A memorable meal & dining experience.
Snazzy jazz in the background. Drew took very good care of us & we will return on our next adventure to Charleston!

The best restaurant I have ever been to in my life (on any continent). From the food (I will dream of the scallops I had) to the service (absolutely incredible waitstaff, hostesses, and host), I could not dream of a better restaurant. Each dish had so many layers that felt like they were individually nurtured. We were only visiting for a few days, and ended up coming here twice, and it was worth every bit of the money. Could not recommend this restaurant anymore.
Fine dining with live jazz, a Charleston gem!
The Charleston Grill was the highlight of our first visit to Charleston; we recommend this restaurant highly! We dined at the Charleston Grill on our second evening and loved it so much that we reserved for our last night on the spot. The atmosphere is very nice/upscale with an excellent live soft jazz trio playing during cocktails and dinner. We had the flounder and the lamb main entree on our first night and Wagyu beef and snapper on our second visit. The wine list is excellent, we enjoyed the champagnes and Willamette Pinot Noir by the glass. If you want fine dining in an upscale but local feeling experience, be sure to book the Charleston Grill! The Charleston Grill was perfect for a birthday dinner.
Very elegant. The food was very good and I loved the small menu. Our 2 servers were friendly and professional but we had another 2 staff regularly coming up to the table also, making chat, so we felt constantly interrupted.
Went to the Charleston Grill with my wife for a nice dinner
Went to the Charleston Grill with my wife for a nice dinner while there visiting, the atmosphere is very peaceful and perfect for a nice dinner. The service was amazing with someone coming by to check frequently and to answer any questions about the menu. The menu isn't huge but very diverse, our server Drew, was a man who knew his craft and was able to explain in detail and gave perfect recommendations. I had a delicious appetizer of oyster & crab and hands down the best lamb I've ever had. Food was cooked perfectly and Drew was there to make sure we were completely happy with our meal. If you're looking for a nice ambiance and amazing food and service, this is the place to go for sure.
My boyfriend reserved this place for my 60th birthday.
Everything was beyond fantastic! The staff was so very sweet, taking time out to recognize my birthday, the food was on point, the bartender was great, too. It was a wonderful and memorable experience. Highly recommend.
The perfect restaurant
The food, the service and ambiance are incredible here. Have been twice and their dinner is amazing. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Manager comes to table and thanks you for comin in...Very nice. Jennifer and Drew are the best. Perfectly seasoned and cooked filet. We will be back.
Love, Love, Love
We love the Charleston Grill and try to go when we are in the area. We did the tasting menu and the food was amazing. It was a great place to celebrate our anniversary. The service level is something that has truly become unique. The staff makes you feel special and pampered.
Sadly disappointed
My husband surprised me with reservations to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary. I was beyond excited considering this is where we got engaged, celebrated prior anniversaries and spent New Years Eve a few years ago. Our experiences in the past were far beyond our expectations, even “magical”from the service to the food! This time was very, very different. Our server was too busy serving everyone else that she never seemed to have enough time for us. Our water glasses were empty many times. She, and really everyone ran by our table all night. Everyone in a rush with no time to devote any attention to us. We never even had the sommelier to our table. To us, our experience was nothing special because we expected so much more from Charleston Grill. If anyone would like to talk to us regarding our experience, we will be happy to discuss it with you.
The Most Incredible Restaurant
The perfect restaurant. The food, service, and ambiance are incredible here. The Waygu tenderloin was the best steak I’ve ever had. The crab cake and carrot cake were also amazing. Our servers, Drew and Jennifer, were helpful, friendly, and engaging. They were awesome. The restaurant has such a comfortable, peaceful vibe to it. We loved the live music too. I have been to just about every fine dining restaurant in Charleston and the Charleston Grill is now my favorite.
Creativity and deliciousness in one
Dress up! Wear your suit jacket and fancy dress. Make this your special dinner in Charleston. The service is exquisite. If you are a foodie, have the tasting menu. It was amazing. From the poached shrimp on watermelon the seared fois gra with strawberry jam and almond streusel each flavor and texture was amazing This is a very talented chef. They even have cocktails and vegetarian dishes. Don’t miss this restaurant if you are in Charleston.
What a delicious gem!
One of the best restaurants I’ve ever experienced and definitely the favorite from our 4 night stay in Charleston! From the outstanding food to the excellent service, we enjoyed every minute. Try the chef’s renowned ribeye along with the incredible crab cake. If the soft shell crab is in season, get that appetizer! This place is a must when in Charleston.
Great meal, flawless service
This is my fourth time at this restaurant. Every time I go I have high expectations and every time I leave my expectations are more than met. The food is exceptional. The service is flawless. It is worth the price and for someone looking for memorable fine dining experience this is the place to go
As with many of the top restaurants in Charleston, the food
As with many of the top restaurants in Charleston, the food at Charleston Grill was fantastic. Highlights were Tuna Crudo (bright and unique), Snapper, and carrot cake (best ever). The atmosphere was great, especially with our booth seating in a "nook" beside the live jazz trio...it felt like they were playing for us AND we were still able to hear each other b/c of our "nook". All of the above was spectacular but the service truly set the Charleston Grill apart from others. From the moment we were welcomed by the hostess, to having two wait staff attending to our table, the service was as good as it gets. Kudos Charleston Grill! This was the type of meal where you spend a lot of money and say "that was SO worth it". Highly recommended!
It's a 5 star restaurant and dining experience.
If you have an anniversary or special occasion this is the place to go.
Excellent
From the super friendly and on spot hostesses Emily and Olivia, to the great table service from Taylor, the delicious food, the live music and the whole ambience, there is no desire unfulfilled. I wish all restaurant waiters we met were like Taylor and his colleagues! Always there when you need them, but not too much there! Perfect balance.
Charleston Grill never disappoints! We have celebrated
Charleston Grill never disappoints! We have celebrated numerous family birthdays there, but have even gone during the late afternoon for a cocktail at the bar/break from King St shopping. The bar is great, they also have some first come first serve seating in the area off the bar where the live music typically is. There is also the dining room that is slightly quieter but you will still hear the music. You honestly can't go wrong with anything on the menu, however at the moment my favorite appetizers are the Charleston Grill Crab Cake and the Ahi Tuna Crudo. The Prime Beef Tenderloin is my continuous favorite entree, however the Fish a la Plancha (market fish) has been very good as well! The Chocolate Hibiscus Mousse has been my favorite dessert as of late. They have an extensive wine selection - most recently we tried the 00, VGR out of Willamette Valley (upon recommendation from the sommelier) and it was delicious!
Sometimes you have that really amazing experience where
Sometimes you have that really amazing experience where everything is fabulous and that is the Charleston Grill. We had the tasting menu and enjoyed trying lots of interesting food. All of it was fabulous! Service was excellent and we were referred to by our names each time. We we're celebrating my husband's birthday and he got a lovely birthday card, candle with his dessert, and a lovely set of small treats. We had many wonderful food experiences in Charleston-but this one felt very special
Classic dining. Exceptional staff
I’m more of an “off the beaten path” restaurant person but the couple we were with are big fans so we booked it. The menu is very limited but the food is fantastic and staff so professional. Mind readers they are :). I had the scallops, my husband the steak. The live music by the combo in the corner was such a nice touch. Dinner moved at a nice pace but we never felt rushed. Lovely dinner!!!
Just Wonderful
We have been to the Charleston Grill many times over the years. It never fails to provide an outstanding dining experience. The service levels are unparalleled. We ordered the chef's tasting menu and had the wine flight to accompany. The food was amazing. This is a splurge that is so worth it!
We have been coming to the grill for the last six years
We have been coming to the grill for the last six years every time we visit Charleston. The service is over the top, the menu and wine list are great. Brian is always attentive and the rest of the staff is extremely friendly.
