Bar side drinks and snacks were great
we came here before a comedy show, and got some oysters and calamari, a couple of cocktails, and was very impressed. I didnโt get a picture of the oysters we just drove right in! Calamari was some of the best Iโve had in town and they have a great drink menu which the bartenders executed perfectly.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Fine Dining
Wonderful fine-dining, but be ready for high prices. The food was excellent and the portions generous. Service was wonderful as well. Would recommend this place, but only when you're ready to leave some money on the table.
Be the first to ReplyWill give them another try.
Kudos to the owner for having a great serving staff. Ordered the aged steak Delmonico medium and it came well done. Thankfully our waiter asked for us to try the steak. He then said itโs to well done Iโll get you another. The second steak was cooked perfectly. I had the lyonnaise potatoes for the side it was burnt and not editable. I didnโt have the heart to complain but I wish the waiter would have caught it like the steak. The appetizers were great. Had a half dozen miyagi on the half shell very fresh. We also had some bacon candied dates that we great.
Be the first to ReplySteak Over Cooked, Lobster Like Rubber, Garlic Skin in Potatoes, Poor Service
I don't usually write very terrible reviews but my goodness for a $300 mean I expected more. Our dinner plates arrived piping hot which means our meals sat in the window under heat lamps for a while. I ordered medium-rare, and it came out well done and almost too touch to chew. The lobster was dry and tasteless along with very rubbery. There was a garlic peel in the potatoes too. This visit was disappointing because our previous visit was good. But with the amount of underwhelming items with our last visit I'm not sure if we'll be giving Char another chance. I hope someone who can make changes reads this.

We were in town on business and our local associates from Springfield took us here. I had the steak and lobster and we ordered some bacon wrapped dates that were phenomenal! Steak and lobster were both cooked to perfection!
Be the first to ReplyIt's the simple & little things that can make a difference.
There is no reason for any item coming out of the "gun" (such as tonic) to be flat. Makes me wonder how nasty dirty the lines must be coming from the tanks. Who doesn't have Brandy? Who runs out of any one booze unless money is a problem? Why would you put the lady's room so close to dinning that when the door opens everyone on that side of the restaurant can see in? Oh, & by the way, the toilet for the non-disability is far too large for a person to get in or out of the stall without startling the oval toilet at some point. Splurge & buy smaller toilets, or at least one. This place seemed to be pretty busy & I would have to say the owner sees no reason to make the restaurant be at 100% everyday with the money brought in. It's the simple fixes & little things you don't or won't do, that will close your doors.
Be the first to ReplyPretty decent steak but service could be better for what you pay.
Pretty good steakhouse but really expensive. For just a steak, a potato and two bottles of beer, my bill was $52. Went there while on business with colleagues. We were seated on time, but the service was just ok. I ordered two bottles of beer and both times it took ten minutes to come to the table. Steak needed more seasoning but was cooked perfectly. Two guys at our table got the tomahawk ribeye which looked amazing. They were also $95 a piece. Over all itโs a pretty decent place and if you are looking to impress a lady friend or business associates, I would suggest it.

We were celebrating our 30th Anniversary which I told them when I made the reservation as well confirmed it with our server. The food was really good but the service was laking. First thing, the hostess took us to our table, she apologized that the table was set for four people. Servers quickly removed two settings, It was a nice table that gave us some privacy. Then within a few minutes the hostess came back & apologized again saying she made a mistake & would we mind moving to a different table. She said this particular table was requested by other guests. We chose to stay & not move. I felt this was a very low class thing to do as she should have known what she was doing when she seated us, besides we had already been served water & weโre looking at the menu. Our server really made us feel rushed to give our order etc. Since this was our first time at this restaurant we wanted a few minutes to enjoy our wine & go over the menu yet he continued to come back at least 3 times within just a few minutes. We really felt rushed which took away from feeling like this was a special night out for us. When he brought the popovers they were cold, it was Sort of like eating cold eggs, We asked him later if they ever served them warm as we have had them at The Flame & they they served them warm. He apologized & brought us 2 more, crazy they werenโt much better. We asked him to please refill our water, which he totally forgot to bring. He actually wasnโt a bad server, he just wasnโt the kind of server that should be at a fine dining restaurant. Then to top everything off, he never brought us the flaming candle at the end of our meal which is something they do here if itโs a celebration. The experience was disappointing to say the least, & when you pay almost $200 for a meal you definitely want to feel like the whole experience was worth it. The chances of us ever returning to Char isnโt good at all. We live locally & have always gone to The Flame for our anniversary which is always wonderful, service outstanding they always make their guests feel very appreciated. This year we just wanted to try Char as we understood they were like sister restaurants. We will definitely go back to The Flame!

Although I was alone, Jorie the manage seated me in a my own private booth and ensured I was taken care of like royalty; best Caesar in town, delicious oysters, unbelievable desert, all while watching the Cardinals, bravo!

We went to Char for the first time on January 29th. We are new in the area and are trying out local restaurants. Based the reviews from others we expected a high-end steakhouse experience but unfortunately this did not happen. I made a reservation and said that this was a birthday celebration. It turned out not to be a dinner worth a celebratory event. We came to the restaurant and were promptly seated since it was a early reservation. As we approached a nicely set table, I noticed that it was very near the doors to the kitchen and in fact I could see directly into the kitchen from my seat. What I could see of it did not look clean and organized. Throughout the dinner I saw many a near collision between servers entering and exiting the kitchen since there was a large service bar impeding their progress. We noticed that there seemed to be a dress code for the servers but glaringly one female server was not following it since she wore a jeans jacket over her black outfit. I noticed a small champagne style glass included in the place settings at each table and wondered why they were there. I soon found out why as we were approached by a waiter offering each of us an initial glass of effervescent wine. Since I was the only one at my table drinking alcohol at the time, I accepted the small taste. It was a low end sparkling wine to my palate and the others at the table were not even offered the option of a sparkling grape juice. The dinner proceeded from there and we ordered appetizers and an entrรฉe each. We waited quite a while (slow service) and the waiter came out with 3 of the 4 appetizers we had ordered. After being informed that an appetizer was missing he assured us that it would be forthcoming โ it never came. We later received our entrees, 3 steaks and a fish entrรฉe. The steaks were of average quality but the fish was good. Two of the steaks were not cooked to proper conditions and we sent one of them back to be redone. I ordered a glass of pinot noir wine to enjoy with my steak. When it came it tasted off because not only was it from a bottle that had been obviously opened the previous day, it was served very chilled (about 45degrees.) I sent that one back and got another glass from a newly opened bottle but it was also served chilled. Since chilling to that extent severely effects the nose of a red wine and thus effects itโs taste in a negative fashion, I asked about serving cold wine and got the response that all wines were stored โin a refrigerator.โ I was astonished that this wine was so improperly served and this made me wonder about how that practice would effect the quality of other wines with higher prices on the wine list. After dinner, we ordered two desserts, a โchocolate souffleโ cake and a crรจme brulee in a chocolate shell bowl. They came and finally the missing appetizer showed up with them. The โsouffleโ was the consistency of a dense brownie and the chocolate shell bowl was so thick it was difficult to crack and eat. During our dinner we observed another couple celebrating an event and, as part of the restaurantโs efforts to support this, they received the biggest sparkler firework I had ever seen in a close indoor setting. The firework spit sparks that traveled about a foot for about fifteen seconds. Does the fire department know about this dangerous practice?
Needless to say, based on the average quality of the food for the price charged, the slow inept service, and the general neglect of the safety of staff and patrons, we do not recommend this eatery.
If you must go, overlook the details and get overcharged for a dining experience that should be so much better if anyone cared.
Classy.
Had happy hour and dinner in the bar with Alyssa. Excellent, attentive server. We were her first table and you would have thought she had been serving at Char for a long time. Had mussels, 2 dozen oysters, soup/salad, steak sandwich. More than we needed. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend. Sit in the bar and ask for Alyssa.
Be the first to ReplyOnly real Oyster Bar in town.
They always have at least 5 Oyster Species from around the US and Canada.
Prince Edward, Gulf, Puget Sound +.
Oysters Fresca (Ceviche on a half shell oyster).
$14 Steak Tartar, $36 Lamb Shank both very good.
Dry and wet aged steaks.
They have a $185 Seafood Tower, $130 Kobe steak and $65 Caviar. I have tried none of those.
An anniversary dinner disaster!!!
An anniversary meal disaster! Reasons:
1. Burnt steak and over seasoned
2. Vegetables were undercooked, couldn't cut with a steak knife
3. Iced tea was like drinking water, so weak
4. You call this bread?
5. Dessert, could hardly find much fruit and wasn't sure it was suppose to be apples or peaches
6. No table cloth
Dinner with Friends at Char Steakhouse & Oyster Bar
Last evening we enjoyed a delightful dinner with friends at Char Steakhouse and Oyster Bar in Springfield Mo. There were four people in our party the other couple had been there in the past and made the reservation. I had a T-Bone steak ordered Medium-Rare, and it came out as ordered and it was excellent! My wife had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was outstanding. Service, environment and food were all outstanding. We will go again, for sure
Be the first to ReplyChar Steakhouse & Oyster Bar: Outstanding in all categories.
Outstanding in all categories. Great wedge salad & aged strip steak! Ambiance is wonderful old school class. Wonderful service, our server was Skyler. Highly recommend for your special occasions!

We ordered 4 filet mignon, 3 were cooked perfectly, 1 was still raw, this surprised us because we were asked what temp we wanted which led us to believe they used a thermometer. We had twice baked potatoes & baked potatoes & asparagus, donโt get the twice baked because they not only looked awful, they tasted awful & were hard, obviously yesterdays twice baked potato. The buns, the kind they put into a flower pot & bake & expect to taste good. Well you have to use tasty dough, they donโt. These buns have zero taste, zero, & the butter is whipped & if I was blindfolded I wouldnโt know it was butter, no taste. The steaks did taste good but were crispy on the outside, a new experience. Dessert? We had strawberry with very hard leftover cake, almost tasteless, with chocolate & ice cream in a chocolate bowl, not worth eating. This dessert is too big for the average person.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time out for a year.
First time out for a year. Most โnot allโ employees had mask. Oyster bar โnot so muchโ. Meal was excellent. Steak not quite med but they fixed it. Wine was great. Service was superb. Will be going back often.
Be the first to ReplyFabulous food - huge portions
Fabulous steaks amazing potato side dishes and great Cesar salad. Terrific service as well. The onion rings are more like onion bracelets. Huge! We have been to Wolfgang Pucks places in Las Vegas and this place was more outstanding than any of those. A must for return dining.
Be the first to ReplyMuch improved since it opened in 2019
They had a serious learning curve in 2019 when they opened, see the reviews right here.
My only service related issue this time was that the Hostess took my coat, no claim check, do they even have a coat room? It took them a long time after I paid my bill to find my coat.
14oz Strip Steak was on special for $30, normally $40.
Glad I got it one sale. Impressive hunk of meet properly cooked, just had so little flavor I was afraid I had Covid.
I didn't like the Lamb either, I dont order Lamb Shank enough to judge. I have had it elsewhere and liked it.
Great waiter on one visit.
The waitress was just OK.
The Bartender needs to be told:
The Mask goes over your Nose.
At $135 both the Seafood Tower & the Wagyu Steak are overpriced.
The Steak Tartare is a bargain at $ 14
It's really the only Oyster Bar in town, always at least half a dozen selections, Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf
