It used to be a favorite, but the food is not worth the extremely high prices, even for the Westside. I'm happy to spend on a steak at BOA or a plate at Rustic Canyon, but when Cassia charges $34 for chickpea curry and some bread and $40 for a small tofu dish...they are not in the same league and are pushing their luck. In order to ask high prices, present a higher end experience.

Be the first to ReplyHaven't eaten here.
.. And I don't think I want to now seeing a can of coke is priced at $6 per can. Are you kidding me? You get a whole 12 pack for that. That aside I just don't like anywhere that tries to gouge you over stupid things like that. It's not even a glass bottle it's a can. I don't want to support anywhere that tries to pass off cheap crap for expensive prices it makes me think the rest of it could be the same. Huge fail on this restaurant's part because the food look decent in the menu. Maybe rethink your marketing strategies there.
Be the first to ReplyThis was our third time at Cassia and we were not
This was our third time at Cassia and we were not disappointed. You can never go wrong with anything you order. The Papaya salad is the perfect appetizer as the refreshing flavor balances out the other dishes. The chili oil on the mushroom satay is like no other and the beef was very tender. We were also impressed by the chickpea curry, Mapo tofu, and grilled avocado asparagus. We had the Flourless Chocolate Cake last time and thoroughly enjoyed it but were too full for it so opted for the Lime Leaf Custard instead. This was a good choice as it was on the smaller side and not too sweet. The service was great as usual; we will definitely be coming back again!
Be the first to ReplyThe food at Cassia was a great take on Asian fusion.
We had the Papaya salad, Laksa and Dan Dan noodles, Singaporean chili crab, and the Grilled sweet potato. Ambiance was pretty great here and it's a great place to celebrate a special event. My most favorite dish was the Singaporean Chili Crab - there were a lot of intricate flavors involved in the dish and I really enjoyed it!
Be the first to ReplyCassia was such a wonderful surprise for me the other night.
I was shocked at how large the restaurant is when you walk in. They had a whole vibe going on outdoors and the rest of the place was very sexy and chic. The service was great from the second we got to the host. Everyone was attentive. The food was so good!!!!! The curry chickpeas and the beef randang were our favorites. The duck noods I could definitely do without. They brought out a birthday dessert which tasted like key lime custard! Not sure what it was but it was good.

Attended event with around 20 people here in the private room. The set menu was great and I loved the steak frites, very tender. The fish was also great. Service was fast aswell.
Be the first to ReplyWe were visiting from the east coast and this restaurant
We were visiting from the east coast and this restaurant was recommended to us by local friends. It did not disappoint. The portions are family style so share and try not to over order. We enjoyed the papaya salad, Koda farms chickpea curry, and lamb frites entree. Dan was our server and steered us right and has great energy. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant in Santa Monica where we had seating in
Great restaurant in Santa Monica where we had seating in their outside patio area which open and airy. The servers were great in which they were so attentive! Our water glasses were always full and we got fresh plates with utensils constantly after each dish. We had the Chickpea Curry, Chilled Vietnamese "sunbathing Prawns", Green Papaya Salad, Sea Bass, Laksa, and Mushroom Satay. Each dish was bursting with favors with various combinations of spicy, citrus, with a slight sweetness. Each dish was so amazing and unique. We ended with the Bananas Foster Pudding which was nice because it wasn't too sweet. The fresh bananas and the wonderful caramel cookie bottom was a nice touch. This was an excellent dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyMy new favorite restaurant in Santa Monica.
I was so impressed with all of the dishes. Service was really great despite it being busy. It gets really packed so I recommend making reservations. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of street parking nearby. My favorite dishes were the Dan Dan noodles and the Kon Loh Mee. Spice levels were fire!! Can't wait to return.

Whaaa I'm so sad I didn't take any pictures! I wanna say the service and food is excellent! I'm so glad I found a tasty Asian spot in Santa Monica! Super cute date spot with amazing drinks but just know it closes pretty early!
Be the first to ReplyFood and drinks were amazing but our waiter sucked.
We ordered oysters but he said he had to check if they were available. We didn't see him again until they were serving our fifth and final dish. I had to ask him what the status was on the oysters. He didn't check about second drinks until we were on our last dish.
Be the first to ReplyLoved everything about this place.
Service was great and everything came out quickly. We shared an order of the beef rendang, the dan dan noodles and the charred broccoli. The star of the show was easily the rendang, which was nothing short of increidble. The dan dan noodles were also great, and on another night could have easily been the best part of the dinner because it was so good. The broccoli was the only thing that left something to be desired. It wasnt bad, just wasnt anything special. I wanted to try so many more things on the menu but the serving sizes are very generous and this was more than enough food. Just means we'll have to come back.

Had a reservation to this place for Friday night (made morning of) and got sat at the cutest corner table - perfect for people viewing :)What we got: papaya salad, dan dan noodles w/ duck on side, chickpea curry- i'd rate food 3/5 stars... dan dan noodles flavoring were by far the best! flavor was phenomenal -- however the duck tasted more like ground beef, which i'm pretty sure it was... - papaya salad was good but a little lackluster of flavor (compared to true thai/laos places), maybe it is flavored down to fit the crowd/area- chickpea curry was a pass in my opinionWhat we got (drinks): Singapore smash (mezcal), Thai Basil margarita (tequila), Recovery (whiskey)- my favorite: Recovery, followed by the Thai basil margarita, least favorite was Singapore smashService was AMAZING! Our waiter was so sweet and attentive, with the right amount of space. Vibes of the place is super lively- young (late 20s-early 40s) crowd for the most part
Be the first to ReplyHad an amazing birthday dinner at Cassia.
The vibe is great! They have a convenient valet parking next door so you don't have to look around. We came on a Saturday at 6 and showed up for our reservation a little early. We were sat right away. Table was very small but cute with a view of the entire restaurant. The host said it was her fav table which is think was a lie because I'm sure people complain about the size of the table. we made sure to order a little bit at a time. As the share plates and our glasses almost took up the entire table. Got the seafood tower and it came with spicy prawns which were so good! I also loved the scallops. We shared the fried cauliflower and the dan dan noodles which were spicy but came with a sauce to balance the spice. These were so good!! I am a baby when it comes to spicy so I asked the server which dishes weren't super hot and she recommended the Dan Dan and said if I could handle the prawns then I would be able to eat most things on the menu as the prawns are the spiciest! Their wine and liquor list is HUGE. Lots of wine options and fun cocktails to chose from. Som on the floor at all times for any wine questions and recommendations. We will be back!

Delicious, didnt realize it was more of a shareable/family style menu. Ordered around 6 dishes for 4 people, everything was wonderful, from the main dishes sides. So many flavors, cant pick my favorite dish :)
Be the first to ReplyCassia is a consistent staple.
Everything is outstanding. I crave the coconut chickpea curry and kaya toast often. Just stellar, beautiful back patio as well.
Be the first to ReplyEverything we've tried here was delicious.
Tried the grilled Whole sea bass, hangar steak, duck Dan Dan noodles, Chinese broccoli, fried cauliflower, spicy wontons, chickpea curry, papaya salad, laksa and the lime leaf custard. The dish that stood out the most was the whole fish. Very juicy and flavorful. Great ambience.
Be the first to ReplyI took my friend who was in town visiting.
The service, amazing!!! The good, awful!! We both hated it. (The desert was great). We both ordered the Laksa, a spicy seafood soup. You would expect to get some seafood in the soup. Instead we got "fish cakes". It was like seafood spam, awful. The dish cost $30. And they put in fish cake?!?! Terrible. We also wanted a veggie side fish, should have ordered a salad (they look great). Instead we ordered the wok fried Brussels and Avocado. This dish we didn't eat, it was Mushy, oily, awful. Our neighbors at the bar also ordered the Laksa soup. They said the same thing we did. Too rich, not good. Staff were super nice and friendly.

Just when I thought I had the Santa Monica food scene figured out, I realized I don't. I've been missing out my entire time living here! This is my new favorite restaurant. Amazing food, service and drink. I got the mint tea. Downsides: I saw my exes best friend (and even still my experience was amazing!)
Be the first to ReplyCassia is a cute restaurant in Santa Monica near the pier.
We went around 630 pm and had no issues finding street parking nearby. For appetizers, we got the fried cauliflower with fish sauce and it was a good start to the meal. The cauliflower is in a breaded batter but didn't feel overly heavy. For the mains, we got the whole grilled sea bass with tumeric and dill, grilled spicy lamb breast that was over jasmine rice, and the laksa which was their rice noodles in a spicy coconut seafood soup. Overall, everything was tasty and flavorful and their portion size was decent for the price point. The inside is pretty big and spacious with a cute vibe. Definitely a great place for a date night or a girls night out!
Be the first to ReplyWent here for our anniversary.
We went back and forth between choosing a place but decided to stick with Cassia due to interesting menu options. Everything we ate got progressively better throughout dinner. It was so good, better than I imagine it be. We had the sunbathing prawns, kaya toast, sea bass, and yard beans with avocado, Vietnamese coffee pudding. Yard beans and sea bass was definitely the favorites of the night. Will have to come back here when we come back to Cali.
Be the first to ReplyHad a wonderful early, mid-week dinner with my husband.
He was very happy that there was a good alcohol-free beer option. I had the Smoke Show cocktail which had tremendous depth. We devoured the garbanzo dip with fresh naan-like bread and the Asian Caesar salad made just right with light dressing and cheese on the side for hubby. Sweet potatoes were very flavorful as was the whole bass. Would easily repeat the order again next time we go!
Be the first to ReplyGood vibes, friendly service, decently large portions.
Food is good but a little salty. We ordered organic chickpea curry, which is really good. When you eat, you should layer the herbs on the bread/naan with the curry, elevates the flavors to a whole new level! Beef Rendang is great. The beef is so soft and juicy, sauce and rice are ok. I would order this again. It is very spicy, beware. If only the chef can tone down the salt shaker a little, it would be five stars to me!
Be the first to ReplyOur party consisted of two couples for dinner.
We had read that Cassia was nominated for a James Beard award for best chef California and were really excited to dine there, especially as it had been quite some time since we had dined out due to the pandemic. We did our research and knew what dishes we wanted to try. Everything went smoothly with our reservation until the food starting "pouring" out of the kitchen. Our waiter told us that the chef recommended that we order all of our dishes at once (it is meant to be a family style service) and the kitchen would take care of pacing our meal. Trusting that guidance, we ordered all of the 7 dishes we wanted to share at one time. We ordered around 5:30pm and within 30 minutes ALL of our dishes were crowding the surface of our table. Dishes just kept coming, seemingly all at once. We actually ran out of space at our table for all of the dishes the kitchen was hurrying out. We ordered a bottle of wine, but even though they rushed to get it to us, we had already received and eaten most of our dinner before we had our wine. It was so rushed that we couldn't get to certain dishes before they were stone cold. We should have spoken up and told the kitchen to hold some of the plates, but it all happened so fast that we just didn't address it. Most of the dishes were very good, with the exception of the Beef Rendang and the Dan Dan Noodles. However, our dinner felt rushed and was, therefore, not as enjoyable as it could have been. When you are paying the kind of prices Cassia charges, you don't expect to be rushed through in under 1 hour. Perhaps they are trying to turn tables very quickly to get more customers through the dinner service. You should not have all 7 of the dishes you ordered sitting on your table all at once getting cold, with wine being opened and poured only as you finish the last bit of your dinner. Besides food quality, one of the most challenging, but most important, factors in offering a great dining experience is pacing of service. Most restaurants don't do it well, but the great ones do. Cassia really failed in this regard.
