Casa Mono New York Reviews from The Last Year

This restaurant is phenomenal! From the food, to the service, to the ambiance, there are no flaws about this place. A true Spanish gem. If you haven't visited you are missing out!
Last night I visited Casa Mono with my husband.
We were there two minutes after 10pm and although the restaurant is open until 12am the hostess told us they couldn't give us a table not even two chairs at the bar. As we walked away, I said to my husband, wait, something is not right here, we have been coming to this restaurant for over 10 years and we now live in California. Having dinner here is important to us and we came this far to be turned away for 2 minutes! I went back and asked to speak to the manager. There I meant Linda who gave me the time and listened to our story! Wow, Linda restored my faith in Casa Mono. She let us sit at the bar and we had such an amazing time! Fabio and Lilah were excellent servers! And the Argentinean sommelier was so hospitable too! I didn't get his name. I told Linda if I were to owned a restaurant I would want her on my team!!!
This was the perfect mid afternoon light meal/snack spot
This was the perfect mid afternoon light meal/snack spot for us as we needed a little food before a dinner reservation at 8pm. We sat outside at a shady table. Our server was friendly and informed about menu items. We ordered the burrata with pea and pistachio pesto and pea shoots, and the salad with pimentón dusted crushed almonds and cheese wedges, both of which exceeded our expectations for the presentation and flavors. We look forward to eating there again with a larger sampling.
Casa Mono was deeply mediocre.
We tried 7 dishes between two people and I regret ordering any of them besides the strip steak and the salad. The flavors were lacked balance and most of the dishes were bland. The service was bad and we had to request water several times. Our waiter offered no guidance. Unfortunately I can't drink wine, perhaps that affected the level of service we received. How this place got a Michelin star is beyond me.
Food and wine were incredible.
I'm not a huge fan of coconut but was blown away by the fluke crudo. I was also really taken with the scallops and you can never go wrong with pan con tomate. Service was also top notch. This place is always slammed in the afternoon and evening but wasn't crowded on a Sunday around 1230.
I'm SHOCKED that they have a Michelin star! The fluke crudo
I'm SHOCKED that they have a Michelin star! The fluke crudo was marvelous, but every other dish disappointed. Burrata and octopus with no flavor (pea pesto bland, fennel and grapefruit bland). Lamb was soft and well-cooked but lacked any flavor. Skirt steak was fine but unremarkable. Razor clams were tasty but that's because butter and garlic are tasty. Not worth it. The bone marrow, however, was shockingly bad. Bone marrow is inherently unctuous rich and flavorful, but this was lumpy, oily, and tasteless except for the crema and fish roe which masked the flavorlessness but added an unpleasantly dissonant taste. Even the toast triangles were over-buttered, as if that would salvage them. WORSE, service was bad. They didn't come enough to even get us to order more beer/wine! Their wine recommendation felt random and tasted Meh. There were large gaps with no food. No refilling of water or bread offered. Finally, the bathroom was just terrible. Tiny, with no room for the inevitable line of people, but inside it was repulsive. Wet paper towels piled on the garbage can and wet on the floor. Toilet that was likely clean but not sparkling enough to inspire confidence. We sat outside and had a lovely street view experience (despite the visiting rat!), but inside it was tight, hot, and loud. Some might have liked the inside, actually, but probably no one would give the bathroom a pass. The menu, be forewarned, is only in Spanish. Fair enough (though imagine that at a Chinese or Indian restaurant), but the table next to us had several foreign visitors and it caused confusion and embarrassment. The server answered questions but not with enough energy or clarity to help--it was minimal. I'm really just amazed that this place has been open so long, let alone that it has a Michelin star.

Our close friend treated us to a tapas extravaganza on a Saturday at 7 o'clock. We arrived and were seated in a very comfortable nook separate from the main dining area. Our sommelier shared with us the reason for the lack of cocktail options. Allegedly, they cannot serve liquor due to its proximity to a school. We enjoyed her Rose recommendations. My friend's carnivorous appetite guided our choices with some good vegetarian options dispersed throughout. The burratas spring pea pistachio sauce was very unique. The scallops did not shine in the overwhelming curry sauce. I would've liked to try the razor clams. The pork belly, skirt steak, goat and duck breast were good. Of the three, I thought the duck was the best. We finished it off with 2 desserts. The creme brûlée was as expected but was interestingly topped with fried bay leaves that we were warned against eating.
Casa Mono, a Michelin-starred restaurant just two minutes
Casa Mono, a Michelin-starred restaurant just two minutes from my apartment, offers an authentic Spanish dining experience in a casual and lively setting. Despite its famous gramercy location and acclaimed chef, it feels like a hidden gem. While its menu is heavily meat-focused--too much so for my tastes, especially as I reduce meat intake--it excels in delivering traditional Spanish cuisine. The adjacent bar serves a standout tortilla Española, a rarity outside Spain. The restaurant's vibrant atmosphere makes it a notable spot in the neighborhood.
Best Tapas in NYC
Not your typical Michelin star restaurant. To start with, the price point is lower, and the decor won't be confused with Le Bernadin, but the staff is friendly and attentive. Most importantly, the food is to die for. My best meal in months. I think i ate here years ago when it was under Mario Batali. The entire experience is greatly improved since those days.

Michelin Star 46.
Very reasonably priced tapas, especially for NYC. With the ongoing global recession, which is only going to get worse before it gets better, I have a feeling that many Michelin restaurants with a $500 tasting menu will have to adapt and start offering a la carte options under $50. Four stars because: 1. No sangria. I'm a sucker for sangria with tapas. 2. No tortilla Espanol. The Spanish omelette stuffed with potatoes is something that I always look for on a tapas menu. 3. Just three vegetarian tapas. Even Eclipse di Luna in Atlanta offers a full vegetarian menu with over a dozen different vegetarian tapas, including a vegetarian paella. Do better when it comes to vegetables.
Rude and absolute disregard for customer!
If there was a way I could rate then lower than 1, I would. My husband and I are in town for the weekend. We were looking for a place open late for a bite and called them at 9.56 pm to confirm if they were still seating folks and if they would do so till late. Once confirmed we headed their way which rooms us about 15 mts. Once we got there they refused to seat us saying they stop taking walk-ins at 10. It’s funny how the hostess I spoke to kept saying sorry despite showing her the call log and recalling the conversation. Rude behavior at its best but I guess this is NYC!
Grease!
Grease galore!!! It’s not believable that this place has a Michelin star. Every dish is served in a huge puddle of orange grease. Can’t even taste the main ingredient. Wine service is also lacking. Always having to refill my own glass.
Great little place for tapas.
We had uni and scrambled eggs (so good!), salted cod fish sticks (can't go wrong with fried), razor clams in butter (love razor clams!), cashews and scallops (scallops were cooked perfectly), pork belly (delish!), lamb lengua (fab), and oxtail and peppers (excellent). Would definitely go back.
Might be one of the best meals we’ve had!
Didn’t have a reservation but lucked out with 2 seats at the chefs bar. The wine list is fantastic with over 600 bottles of Spanish wine. Our sommelier, Christian, chose the perfect Rioja for us. We were recommended to have 6 tapas dishes but ordered 4. It was close to the best meal we’ve had! Razorback clams, manchengo salad, burrata and squid ink rice with fish. The chefs were so in sync, it was a pleasure to watch them work. We can’t wait to go back!
Long story short, I love Casa Mono but please don't order
Long story short, I love Casa Mono but please don't order Pan con tomate here.... I've visited Casa Mono for several times, and I enjoyed most dishes. I had never ordered Pan con tomate here before until my most recent visit last week. Pan con tomate is one of my favorite thing in Spanish foods, but the Pan con tomate here is a disaster. I think the quality of tomato was not good. It was just very very bland and basic type of tomato.. But besides of the Pan con tomate, the general experience was nice. My favorite was the Bone Marrow. It was super delicious. And also, the ensalada was also my favorite. As of my memory, I think it is within top 3 salad in Manhattan. The service was okay. But the space was a bit too small.

This is a place that once you discover it, you want to come back again and again. The tiny restaurant on Irving Place expanded its capacity with outside seating so you have a higher chance to score a reservation. We started with the scallops in Serrano pepper curry and the octopus/pulpo. Then we inhaled the juicy and tender duck breast. The hands down favorite were the crispy pig ears with spicy cucumbers and cantaloupe. We would have ordered a repeat of it but decided to save room for desert. The wine was excellent, the servers and the sommelier were friendly professional and attentive. One small suggestion, for people in the outside seating it would be nice to be offered wet naps to wash hands. The bathroom is only in the inside and for one person, so have to wait a lot to simply wash hands before the meal.
Food was very good.
That's the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars. They have a "policy" everyone has to be present to sit down. We had a reservation for 3! That 4 person table was not going anywhere. We had to wait in the rain for our last party. Then when we finally sat down it was in front of the waiter station. So I asked if we can move our table to the corner. The host of course said "no we have a 4 person party coming" We were sitting at a 4 person table.. So it was ridiculous. The wait staff was very nice but the host and these other rules completely ruined the experience. Enough to stop me from going back or recommending. A shame the food isn't bad.
Truly one of the best restaurants I've been to in the city
Truly one of the best restaurants I've been to in the city by far, though Spanish tapas have a special place in my heart so maybe I'm biased. Every bite of every dish was incredible! We didn't have enough room in our stomachs to order everything we wanted to try on the menu. The standouts were the Jamon Iberico, razor clams, and confit goat. Service was also on point and very timely. Cute little restaurant with a very cozy and intimate feel. Perfect for a date. We'll be back to try more of the menu for sure! Well-deserved Michelin star.

My family of 4 went to Casa Mono earlier this week, and we had an amazing experience! We sat in their heated covered patio, and it was more spacious and quiet than indoors. I was reading reviews here on yelp after the fact, and all the critical reviews mentioned foods we didn't order. My family thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered, and that is why I'm sharing the list here: Ensalada Mono: manchego and pimentón marcona almonds (least favorite, but good to have some greens! It was still very good.) Burrata: toasted sourdough, calabrian fig jam, and coppa serrana Arroz Negro: fluke and guindilla emulsion Fideos: chorizo, clams, and garlic sherry aioli Lamb Belly: marcona mole and sunchoke (favorite!) Bone Marrow: trout roe, horseradish, and everything bagel spice (in the picture on this review, after we had eaten some of it) Duck Breast: maitake and miel de jerez Pork Sobrasada: quince and honeycomb (close second favorite) Duck Egg: mojama and black truffles Confit Goat: avocado queso, scallion ash, and sicilian pistachios Enjoy!
Great service.
Great food. A little tight seating inside. Very cozy to the next table or the staff walking by. Enjoyed everything we had. My favorites were the fluke crudo, razor clams(just a bit of sand) and the scallops(cooked to perfection!). Didn't have room for dessert. We had 11 items plus the free bread. They recommend for a party of 3 to order 6-9 dishes.
Beware! Sitting outside, placed an order for a $125 bottle
Beware! Sitting outside, placed an order for a $125 bottle of wine with dinner. They brought new unopened bottle out to us to show us the label, then took it inside to open? Not sure I've had that happen in 40 years. Come back out with bottle open and obviously corked wine! When I tasted, the guy immediately claimed someone else had tasted it (our bottle?, definitely never had that happen before!!) and proclaimed it good, but he could obviously tell it was corked. Hmmmm.... Why do I feel scammed? Then for dessert requested a churro from their sister restaurant right next door, was told could only order from (and eat in) that restaurant. No problem, we'll just go in there to order. Wasn't told it would take 45 minutes (for a churro!) - and get this, the churro is made in the deep fryer at Casa Mono! Average food and service. Like I started this review, beware!

Love this place ! Food is amazing ! Little heavy if you are the super healthy person maybe not for u ! Lol Service is great, place is small but has great energy at dinner time ! Hard to get a table tho !
solid meal at casa mono recently.
restaurant is cute, a bit tight inside, they do have street tables as well. overall the food was good, some dishes were unbalanced (they lean heavy on salt overall), service was good, pacing pretty good. One issue I had was our server did not help us form an order for our party, in fact got us to add to our order by suggesting additional dishes and it ended up being way way too much food for lunch for 3. great - razor clams (addicting oil, ask for extra bread to soak it up), paella croqueta, foie gras (very well balanced), urchin and eggs, bone marrow and trout roe (again very well balanced), scallops and curry. Dishes that I probably wouldn't order again - confit goat (salty), fideos (good, but some very salty bites), mussels (large portion but mostly unmemorable), albondigas with cockles, sepia and xo (very salty).
Give me Your Dinero
I pass by this place all the time and notice their bright yellow sign but who knew it was Michelin starred? I didn’t have reservation but I figure still early for dinner but I still cannot get a table. Unfortunately, it’s one of those popular tiny spots so you get the picture, long waits and limited seating. I don’t mind sitting at the bar but their bar seating is atrocious. You either sit next to busy kitchen exit or actual door exits. Their worst bar seat is next to the side door where servers go in and out to work at their next door restaurant and outdoor seating, And this is type of restaurant that badly needs more seating. Food is good but it’s hit or miss. Some dishes work better than others. Razor clams always great so they are good here. Chopitos were so dry and no different from calamari of an average bar. They only serve Tapas and I had a feeling at $20 or $30 a pop, they add up quickly. I would come back maybe with reservation for a table or at least better seating strategy at the bar but I will probably limit myself to three dishes and a beer and then go to East Village for some delicious ramen which I imagine wud come out not only tastier experience but cheaper, too!

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
