Was recommended by a foodie friend and was looking forward to dining here but cancelled a week prior via their online booking site.
They never called to confirm the reservation, only sent a text a week before dining to see if we had any allergies etc, to which I didn’t reply as I had cancelled. Next thing I knew, another text half an hour before we were supposed to dine, we received another text that they expected us. I sent a note back to say we’d cancelled, but the following day, £196 was taken from my account (for 4 covers).
I have spent the past two months trying to rectify this with bookings, appeasing them to the unfairness of the situation, but they were adamant that it was in their ‘T&Cs’. They could not get past the fact of a possible IT glitch or miscommunication. This has NEVER happened before to me & all my reviews of restaurants have been positive as I know how hard it is for small businesses, but they shamefully can not operate like this. What if you had Covid and had to cancel on the day? Too bad, I guess as T&Cs says 48 hours notice.
Am so livid that I will apply to Small Claims Tribunal for my £196 back (which is also way too much - restaurants at The Shard have a £20pp deposit). Looking at past reviews, I see I’m not the only one who’ve had this experience.
