Cafe Juanita Kirkland Reviews from The Last Year
Love Cafe Juanita! The food and wine are exceptional.
An amazing culinary experience. I highly recommend the wine pairing option.
Just had our anniversary dinner here and everything was
Just had our anniversary dinner here and everything was delicious. Also did the wine pairing and loved the wine. I previously lived in France so this is a big deal to me. Service was 100% professional + polished from the moment we pulled up to valet. I'm now looking for a reason to return to enjoy another wonderful dinner at Cafe Juanita.
Cafe Juanita is renowned for its exceptional Italian
Cafe Juanita is renowned for its exceptional Italian cuisine, offering a refined dining experience that blends traditional and contemporary flavors from the Tuscan region. Set in an elegant and cozy space, the restaurant features warm lighting and a sophisticated yet welcoming ambiance. The menu, crafted by Chef Holly Smith, showcases seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Signature dishes include various fish dishes and the perfectly balanced handmade pasta. The wine list is extensive, featuring selections that complement the menu beautifully. Service at Cafe Juanita is impeccable, with knowledgeable and attentive staff ensuring a memorable dining experience. Whether it's a special occasion or an intimate dinner, Cafe Juanita provides a culinary journey that is both exquisite and unforgettable. The evening was unforgettable and worth the price tag that many find too high. Highlights were the supplement risotto and Alaskan halibut, which melted in my mouth. The sommelier's knowledge of the wines, paired with the menu, blew me away and I appreciated that I could take pictures to further research and hopefully enhance my personal collection. Hands down, my favorite restaurant in the Seattle area and second favorite after Eleven Madison in the US. I truly appreciated the lovely evening being spoiled by my friends.

Being a long time loyalty customer for cafe Juanita since
Being a long time loyalty customer for cafe Juanita since year 2005, we stopped going after pandemic hit. This is our first time going back after they switched away from à la carte menu to 4 sets of tasting menus ( omnivore, pescatarian, vegetarian, vegan). We brought our own wine, an amazing burgundy that I love and it is at its prime time, definitely the highlight of the night. The wine pairing is quite expensive here, if one wants good wine without breaking the bank, it is likely a better idea to bring your own or order a reasonably priced bottle from the wine menu. Their corkage fee is extremely affordable at $35. Of course the wine brought in needs to be one that they don't have on their menu. We both picked the omnivore menu, but subsituted two dishes with the items on the supplement menu for variety. That way we get to have two different pasta courses, and instead of two veggie plates we get one veggie and one foie gras. Also ordered a grilled octopus from the supplement menu as extra, but ended up being too full at the end. Bread service, the wagyu croccante, and venison are impeccable. Some dishes are on the salty side ( especially the little gem salad) as Chef Holly Smith is usually slightly heavy handed on salt. That is her preference, not a mistake. I would say the dishes here go very well when there is wine/ alcohol involved. At the end the manager brought us two glasses of Malabaila Birbet Brachetto dessert wine to try. It is very refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness, I have to say I like it better than the dessert itself. A very lovely restaurant with perfectly executed tasting menu, and top notch service. Unfortunately not the type we can take the kids with us like before when they had full à la carte menu, but still a top choice for any special occasions.
Fine dining at its best.
.. and most expensive. We are CJ fans, and this is the first time we've been to the restaurant since they switched from a la carte to tasing menus. First, the ambience. Quiet, reserved, elegant. Tables nicely spaced, noise level is low so conversation is easy, and the tables and chairs are sleek and comfortable. Service was top notch. We were greeted warmly, and our server was attentive and helpful without hovering too much. The sommelier was delightful and gave colorful explanations of all the wine we tried. Now for the food. Wonderful from start to finish. Each course was beautifully plated and lovingly prepared. My daughter had the pescatarian menu, and I had the omnivore. We augmented our dinner with the Tajarin with butter and sage, a Cafe Juanita classic. The two menus are the same except for the entree and the appetizer. We both agreed the omnivore menu was the standout. The carpaccio was out of this world: creamy waygu carpaccio with tangy jalapeno butter and the crunch of a homemade rye crisp. My daughter's frutti de mare was fresh and bright, but the cuttlefish ink was a bit strong for her liking. The tagliatelle with morels was some of the best pasta we've ever eaten, even better than our beloved butter and sage. For entrees, we gave the nod to the melt-in-your mouth venison loin. The halibut was perfectly cooked but just a tad on the bland side. Desserts were sublime. We had the wine parings with our meal. Each wine was exquisite and paired perfectly with the food. The price seemed steep for the amount of wine in each pour. We are glad we tried it, but would just order wine off the menu next time.
This is a fairly nice fine dining restaurant located around
This is a fairly nice fine dining restaurant located around the Kirkland area. We booked a reservation for a Wednesday dinner for 4 people, and it was not too hard to get a reservation for opening time. However, do plan ahead if you go for Friday or Saturday. They're currently open Tuesday and Wednesday and Friday and Saturday. Parking is street parking which is not too hard early in the day, or you can valet for $10. My friend and I got one omnivore and one pescatarian and did some substitutions to try as much as we can without paying an insane amount on supplements. Some courses can be subbed like the tagliatelle for the tajarin and the vegetable and desserts courses can be swapped. You can also swap between omnivore and pescatarian options too to have a best of both worlds approach. We started with house made focaccia which absolutely stands out - crispy bread with soft interior, and each bite soaks with delicious yet not overpowering amounts of olive oil. Then there's amuse bouche that has a cannoli with caviar, crostini, and baby carrot with chickpea crema which you can eat the entire thing. It's a nice plate to start, but nothing too memorable. Bread service - 2 breads (cumin and roasted garlic potato) and 2 crackers (rosemary and sea salt, and 36 month Parmesan reggiano) variants. They are good but we were still thinking of the focaccia Frutti di mare - love the scallops and oysters but the uni is just decent. Squid ink sauce A5 Miyazaki wagyu croccante - I love this one - very tender meat (raw) with toasted bread. A light toast Tagliatelle - good, has mushrooms, cooked al dente Tajarin with creme fraiche and white sturgeon caviar - substitution, also a great pasta. The caviar blends well with the tajarin flavors Little gems - has anchovy and the Parmesan reggiano, sharp and fresh Asparagus with black garlic - substitution, you also have one piece of that if you go with the omnivore course. I really love this along with the presentation. The shallots are pickled so it provides a slightly sweet and sour contrast Palate cleanser - kinda like a raspberry sorbet. Don't be fooled by the plating as I thought the white center was also food Alaskan halibut - spot prawn bisque - cooked well, blends well with the broth Venison - I prefer this main. Venison is so tender and juicy you can even eat it by just biting or a dull knife (since I was sharing, my friend had the sharper knife for the venison course). The spring onion agrodolce bombolino is a bread with the onion inside and is so flavorful and enhances the very savory black garlic asparagus and venison. Probably my favorite dish in the whole tasting menu, aside from the focaccia at the beginning Pavlova with strawberry and lemon curd - one bite, fairly solid Le Bombe - a nice finish to the meal. Very hearty, love the sweet contrast with yuzu Sichuan peppercorn gelato for a play on hot and cold Vanilla bean panna cotta - substitution, also very good and standard Service is excellent as they make sure you always have wine and water with the food. Food cadence is good in timing but the progression feels a little bit random as we start off with a heavy amuse bouche followed by a lighter A5 croccante / frutti di mare The sommelier recommended nice wines, both white and red, to pair with our courses. We started with a Sauvignon blanc then proceeded with a red wine after to pair with the later courses. Overall, the food is good and price range is fair - after tax and tip, it was about $325 a person for tasting menu ($205 base) plus 2 bottles of wine. If you go solo, wine pairing is good for variety but if you don't mind variety, going with a group to split a bottle or two will be a fraction of the price.
Overall, this is a special place and each course is
Overall, this is a special place and each course is beautiful and thoughtful. For me personally, I don't think it was a great fit because of the menu the night I went. Perhaps another time with a different menu, it would be a better experience but with the cost, I'm not sure if I'd take the chance again. If you're an adventurous eater without any restrictions, you'll have an incredible experience. Pros - Service is exceptional and polished - They are accommodating with allergy issues and I felt confident that the chef was careful which is significant for those with allergies - The chocolate bomb dessert was amazing but very small even for a tasting menu - Loved the pastas- the risotto with ramps was my favorite thing we ate Cons - The anchovy salad was inedible, extremely salty and the anchovies were pungent. With such an expensive meal, I was bummed that I couldn't eat an entire course - I couldn't eat either protein on the menu and needed to swap from the supplement menu . I appreciate the ability to swap but it's primarily only pastas - with exception of the A5 which understandably is an additional price - so I had two pastas instead. Again, with the price, it's a bummer to not get a protein
Guaranteed dining experience
There is much forgettable food to be had at many area restaurants. I wanted a guaranteed fine meal, and Cafe Juanita delivered. Their service is uniformly excellent. The ambiance is comfortable. The food displays precision, technical skill, artistry, well balanced components that are well prepared. The pace of the meal is relaxing. When we left, we understood we had dined well and had had a lovely evening. This is the sort of meal that provides plenty of conversation at the table. Highly recommend.
A special treat, a special night
I don't know if I have adequate words to describe this place. My daughter and son-in-law treated us to dinner at Cafe Juanita for my birthday and let me say, this dinner will go down in my memory as one of the best I have ever had. We all had the prix fixe, they are pescatarians and my husband and I are not. We all had options to make us happy. We shared the Idaho white sturgeon caviar supplement and it was my first experience with caviar and I am in love. It was delicious. My daughter and son-in-law raved about the seabream. I had wagyu beef and my husband had lamb. All prepared to perfection. Other highlights were the Risotto with wild ramps and 36 month Parmigiano, and the amuse bouche selections. We had lovely gelato for dessert and they brought me a special birthday hazelnut gelato creation with gold leaf accents. I felt like royalty. Service was impeccable. We wanted for nothing during our nearly 3 hour dinner. It was a night to remember for my birthday and I hope one day we will visit again when we are in Seattle.
What a treat! Cade Juanita and staff do an exceptional job
What a treat! Cade Juanita and staff do an exceptional job in a very unassuming neighborhood in Kirkland. The pasta with sage is fantastic... caviar a must have... and a truly exceptional wine list.
What a beautiful meal and a beautiful experience.
Cafe Juanita is kinda nestled in the residential area of Kirkland. There's valet parking and some street parking provided. The inside kinda gives "The Menu" vibes especially at night, with the big windows that see nothing but darkness and the open kitchen... minus all the other stuff lol We came in a few minutes early for our reservation and was greeted and seated pretty quickly. They only provide different prix fixe menus, so not a whole lot to choose from, but don't think you can go wrong. We went with the omnivore menu. Amuse bouche: so cute, so good. They were such perfect bites. I especially loved the scallop that was served with passion fruit and some pistachio maybe? Herb focaccia: super fluffy and airy. The outside was perfectly crunchy as well. Pea ravioli in broth: I'm not a fan of peas, so I wasn't a huge fan of this dish. But I enjoyed the pasta itself, the texture was good and the shape is the cutest thing. The soup was also full of umami flavor. Bread board: the assortment! Loved the variety here. I especially loved the gourmet cheez-its haha Wagyu croccante: delightfully buttery. The decorations on top are cute, but the flavor doesn't really come through when eaten together with the meat and sauce on the bread. Endive salad: yummier than I expected! It's served with a pine nut sauce with more pine nuts together. With the celery on top, it kinda tastes like an elevated celery and peanut butter snack which I was super on board for. The flavors can take a little getting used to, but every bite just continuously got better. Venison loin: omg so tender, and not gamey at all. Cooked to absolute perfection. The sauce was a great pairing with the meat and cabbage as well. Palate cleanser and desserts: palate cleanser was a beautiful dollop of fruity tart goodness. The little dessert before dessert was also amazing. I could've had about 10 of those, but sadly only got one. The actual dessert was a super interesting combo of porcini gelato and chocolate hazelnut bottom. Together, it's such an interesting flavor combination: umami porcini and salty nutty chocolate. Overall, a wonderful experience and delicious menu. We were both stuffed by the end of the meal. The service was divine, everyone was super attentive and kind. Would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a special dining experience.
Get a second mortgage before you go.
Basically a remodeled house. NO parking nearby. Average service but sub-standard food. Small portions. Very loud place. Also cold.
An outstanding experience
Our table ordered all three tasting menus plus wine pairings. This gave us an opportunity to compare and contrast. All of them were excellent and most courses were truly outstanding. Beautiful presentation and taste profiles. I particularly liked the venison main course. It was so flavourful and tender. The restaurant is super flexible for any request. Service levels are very high. Noise level is low. Pacing was perfect.
10 out of 10 would recommend.
Pricy, but worth it. We did the tasting menu. Don't be in a rush. But everything was stellar. We did the private room in the main level.
Decent food but not Michelin worthy, great attentive
Decent food but not Michelin worthy, great attentive service however the price was ridiculous. Over $750 (including tip) for 2. Definitely not in par with price charged. Got 2 price fix dinners, 2 glasses of wine, 2 cocktails & one extra appetizer. In addition to expected 20% tip, they throw in 4% kitchen charge with tax on top.
The food is ok, but not deserve the price ! Some of the
The food is ok, but not deserve the price ! Some of the food is so salty and I have to drink lots of water after the meal. You can definitely find better food with this price!
Perfect.
Loved this place, the service was incredible. Not something we're going to do often, but for special occasions, we'll be back.
It's worth it.
Every single item was delicious. The service was fantastic. Would recommend the omnivore choice more than pescatarian one. Cocktails were fantastic too. The ambiance was okayish. No great views or tall ceilings and the location is okayish too. But the food makes it worth it and we had a fabulous night over all. Portions looked small initially but the end of all the courses, we were quite full. There are also small plates served in between the courses which were unique and nice.
THE best meal we've had in many, many years.
2 of ordered the omnivore tasting menu and 2 ordered the pescatarian tasting menu. They also have vegetarian and vegan menus available, as well as some amazing additional items that can be swapped out into the tasting menu you choose. They can also address gluten free requests. They also accommodate allergies and preferences. Every single course from each of the tasting menus was balanced in flavor and texture, and exquisitely prepared. Presentations are beautiful and deceptively simple. Of particular note were the Wagyu A5 croccante, Tajarin with butter and crispy sage, and the Iberico Presa de Bellota and Alaskan spot prawn entree (it's Spanish pork shoulder but looks and eats like beef ... amazing). The vanilla bean panna cotta, vanilla sea salt, Billy's honey was incredibly light ... yet had perfect jiggly consistency. We enjoyed the reserve wine pairings with each course. Fun to have the sommelier bring out the bottles (different wines for the different tasting menus) and educate us about the wines. Service was outstanding ... super friendly and attentive. Love Holly Smith and her team. Eat here, often.
Great service.
I suppose we had an expectation a bit higher than we actually experiecedt The food was on the salty side It was a fun weekday dinner but nothing special
Came here for a birthday dinner in October 2023.
When making the reservation, I had a custom request for a small card and a certain table. When we arrived, our table had a small handwritten birthday card on the restaurant stationary. We started off with some cocktails, and we both got the same tasting menu--"carnivore", as they call it. The food was pretty good overall, but there were a few that were a standout. We enjoyed a couple more cocktails, and ended the meal with a small birthday dessert. Honestly though it was a bit overpriced. The experience and food was nice, but I probably won't go out of the way to dine here.
My go to, my treat restaurant whenever I visit metro
My go to, my treat restaurant whenever I visit metro Seattle. Contemporary Italian cuisine with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients- my most recent visit was in the fall and they had both white and black truffles! Superb wine and cocktail list. Excellent service, Dress well, because everyone else will. Yes, you will spend money, and yes it is very much worth it.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.

This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!

Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here

Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
