Burnt Ends Singapore Reviews from The Last Year
Divine experience!
Chef David Pynt is so deserving of all the accolades! The food is divine and the service is outstanding! Thanks for an incredible experience!
Lazy bakery concept
Came for Sunday brunch and left wishing we’d gone anywhere else. Sloppy execution at all points. Waited too long in line to order food. Coffee couldn’t be ordered at the same point, only later when paying for food. More unnecessary waiting for the coffee (why no delivery to table?) Ordered scones to eat in, they were plopped on a paper plate, we weren’t offered jam or cream with them. Yum…dry scones. No juices or smoothies available. Waited for our coffees and carried our paper plates and cans of water outside to a table where we setup our sloppy brunch. No thanks. Do to properly or not at all.
What A Blast! Excellent Dining And Service!
The reviews for this restaurant are very good. Through the grapevine, I was told that it is quite difficult to get a seat. However, my wife and I were very lucky to make a reservation for an early dinner sitting at the bar, which is an experience in itself. Our server was called Jimmy, who provided excellent service throughout. He was talkative and helpful, and very witty. The atmosphere during this early evening was very pleasant, and not too busy. The large and well decorated bar had dimmed lighting, which made for a very cosy experience. This is where I struggle because the food was outstanding, but some of it is almost indescribable. We ordered the Burnt Ends' restaurant grazing menu as follows: Smoked quails egg and caviar Grissini and taramasalata Steak frites Crab and port grill stickers Jamaican chicken and lime crema Beef marmalade and house pickles Leek, hazelnut and brown butter Burnt Ends' Sanger (We also ordered extra Tandoori Chicken Oysters, as advised by Jimmy) Berry tart Marshmallows The cost was $250 for two people. The reason why I am having difficulty describing the food is because nothing appeared to be what it is described as (In a very good way!). All I know is it was all excellent and delicious. The grissini (crisp, dry-baked bread) and taramasalata was the best amongst a great bunch. The Burnst Ends' Sanger was a bountiful, pulled-pork and 'slaw' slider, which was a nice ending to the menu. We supped on quite a few cocktails that evening, e.g. Manhattans, Espresso Martinis, Clarified Pina Coladas, Maple Old Fasioneds, etc. The total price with tip came to $539.55. Expensive, but worth the dining experience. Definitely recommend this restaurant. An excellent atmosphere, excellent service and very creative dining experience. Try here at least once.
Delicious Meats
Was in Singapore with my old friend for an event. He's a restaurateur, and he knows I'm very selective when it comes to ordering a steak in Asia. He asked whether I wanted to visit a steakhouse owned by Aussie Chef David Pynt. Well, lemme have a think for a second........... YEEESSS. The ambience was high-end, and the place was packed for a weekday lunch. We didn't have reservations but the bar table facing the kitchen had a couple spots so we took it. Michelin worthy? Yes. Pricey? Yes. Did I enjoy it? Absolutely. Will I return? Depending on the circumstances, yes, but I'm not in a hurry. I'm blessed to be able to spend considerable amount of time in The States and Australia, so a good steak is not hard to come by. Service was impeccable, that goes without saying. Great date restaurant.
Amazing Dining Experience
Plan ahead book up to 3 months in advance! Unbelievably visual food, taste sensation in every bite, balance of texture, flavour and captivating presentation. This coupled with excellent selection of wines, very knowledgeable and professional service team. Worth every Singapore Dollar, Dave and his team were the best hosts, chefs and wait staff, we have had! Just Do It! Brian
Ok only. Certainly not Michelin star level
We’ve been trying to get in here for a long time and finally managed to get a table. We had the full menu available not the smaller bar menu. The quail egg and caviar was superb, something that, at a Michelin establishment, should be an amuse bouche and not a menu item. We had the pork and mustard on toast next which was a big letdown. The pork looked more like undercooked bacon and we all felt it was totally overpowered by the mustard. This was not well executed. Leek followed which was another fail sadly. It was served with brown butter, hazelnuts and truffle. It just didn’t deliver much flavour beyond the butter and truffle. Again, not a great balance which should be paramount in Michelin establishments. The Pakistani lamb chops were a delight though. Really well cooked and served with an excellent sauce. This is more like it. Next we had a tenderloin with a bone marrow sauce. Steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce was perfect. We also had the chicken peri peri with garlic puree. This was well executed but (personal preference) there should have been more chili punch. To finish we had the berry tarts and the marshmallows both were superb. Overall it was a good meal, but too much inconsistency . Personally speaking, this isn’t Michelin dining. It was much better than CUT but still not worthy of a star. The marketing people have excelled themselves.
Burnt Ends - must do
Words can not describe how insanely good this meal was. Everyone was very welcoming and all staff extremely attentive to their responsibility. Chefs were on point, floor staff were exceptional from moment we arrived to walking out everything was 11 out of 10. Not sure when I’ll get the chance to come back but will absolutely be back in a heart beat.
Overhyped and under delivered
Restaurant is gorgeous, great ambiance inside. Unfortunately, the food, service, and operation were a mess. I had made reservation for the bar because that’s the only spot available. I didn’t realize that the menu varies between the bar and main restaurant, because they are separate entities?! We were then told that we can move to the outside table to get the same menu as the main restaurant, which made zero sense. Service was super slow. Appertizers were better entrees. We ordered the steak cube and flank steak. Both came to the table cold and the sauce accompanying the flank steak was thick and congealed. Ordered the cream brûlée and chocolate soufflé; again both were a disappointment. The brûlée was literally burnt, hence, bitter. The soufflé was cold and the smoked ice cream that came with it didnt complement the flavor. Overhyped and under delivered.
Phenomenal food and drink
This is one of the best restaurant experiences we've ever had. We had the early sitting at the bar and had the set menu. This was a good feed! We were delighted with our drinks and the expertise of our barman, Edwin. He was phenomenal! Thank you all for an amazing meal experience!
Taste pretty good but definitely overpriced and slightly underwhelming..
This place has a pretty good ambience but where you are being seated plays a big part of that experience. Only managed to book cocktail lounge experience and the tasting menu while being pretty good still left us feeling hungry at the end of it. Overpriced bite sized food while not really wowed by the flavour profiles and food presentation. Might have expected too much given the hype of the restaurant.
Enjoyable Dinner
I made a reservation for my wife and me at the bar. I had tried to get a table in the dining room but they were sold out within seconds of becoming available. When eating at the bar your options are limited to a short ala carte menu or a tasting menu which costs $250 Singapore/$188 USD for 2. We chose the tasting menu. The tasting menu consisted of 10 courses with most being single bites. One or two dishes were average but most were very good. I can understand some of the criticisms about the lack of quantity but I thought the tasting menu was a decent value. I’ve never eaten at a Michelin star restaurant for under $100 US per person. My only criticism relates to their reputation as an Australian barbecue restaurant. There were a few barbecue dishes but most weren’t or were a real stretch to label barbecue. I’m surprised that some reviews criticize the service. It was excellent for us. Everyone was friendly and professional. The timing of the courses was generally very good. The only excessive lag was the wait for dessert. We did encounter one quirk at the end of the night. We had taken a taxi to the restaurant and asked them to call one for us at the end of dinner. They said that they couldn’t call for one but could try to order one via the internet. They couldn’t get one which concerned me, but I used the Grab app and got a ride. It seemed odd that my hotel can call for cabs but the restaurant can’t. Aside from the taxi issue we enjoyed our dinner. I would return if I could get a seat in the dining room and try the full menu.
Save Your Money and Eat in the Hawker Markets
First, let me preface this by saying I am not a foodie. I am already bias since I think these types of restaurants inflate their prices. This is the first Michelin restaurant I have ever been to. We decided to try it since we saw the restaurant on Somebody Feed Phil. Making a reservation in the in the main dining room is next to impossible. I tracked it for weeks and was ready when the spots opened up at the appropriate number of days in advance. I was only able to make a reservation in the Cocktail bar. We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation and they seated us within 5 minutes of arriving. The space is super cool. The outside of the building is a non-descript white building, but the inside was amazing. We were able to sit in 2 of the 8 seats at the bar. There are other seats along the wall and you are eating off a coffee table. Two seats are along the wall on the way to the bathroom. I would not have been happy if we were seated there. One of the numerous wait staff that engaged with us whispered to my wife that we had the two seats for a maximum of two hours. Given I am not a frequenter of these types of places, I didn't think much of it, but looking back, if you are paying this kind of money, you ought to be able to camp there overnight if you wish. My wife doesn't drink and the bartender made her a nice mocktail. I had an overpriced cocktail in a cool skull glass. Alcohol in Singapore is pricey, so no big deal. There are two options in this cocktail bar area. 1. order from the al-a-cart menu or 2. the set menu for $125 (Singapore dollars) per person. We picked option 2. 9 courses which none of them were more than 1-2 bites. My wife is gluten free and they were accommodating, but these days Gluten free is very common. The Quail Egg was probably the best of the 9 courses. Very unique and smoky flavor. Don't let the Steak Frites lure you into the sense that you will get some steak. It was the worst version of steak frites in history. It was about 1/2 a bite and quite disappointing. The Sanger (which is a pork slider by the way) was tasty, but no better than anything we could get in the south of the United States on the side of the road. Maybe other folks in other parts of the world would enjoy this as this is a rarity, but for those living in the southern United States, this was disappointing. In summary, $125 (Singapore dollars) was overpriced. Maybe worth $75. The space was cool, the wait space was attentive, though fairly short and not super warm. I could have spent 1/10th of the cost at the Hawker Markets and been happier and way more full.
Great, but how great?
Very good atmosphere, and excellent food. No complaints at all! The staff were slightly less pleasing… one could not really say that they were unhelpful or impolite; but they didn’t really engage either. Actually they seemed intent on selling us their preferred options (driven by the management maybe???) and didn’t really listen to our comments, opinions and wishes. In the end this was nevertheless an excellent experience… however for the very high price I would expect oh so very, very much more. Rated as #34 in the world - how the hell did that happen? Maybe at one time they were, but they lost the plot slightly as they basked in their joy? I don’t know really, but I’ve eaten just as good food - even better food - and experienced just as good atmosphere; coupled with far superior service… and it cost a lot less - and I am sure those places would be ranked somewhere in the 1000s… or maybe they have never even been ranked!?!? So what is a ranking really worth? In any case they can’t be #34… and don’t get me wrong - they are good - but not #34 good - never in a million years!
Very poor.
Expensive, underwhelming, slow. Table was not ready in time. Menu is cryptic. Poor overall, was really looking forward to it but massively disappointed. We were all hungry as we left. Save yourself and find somewhere worthy.
Felt cheated. To the core. Never again.
Terrible food. Tasteless. Disgusting attitude of the waiters. Cheats of the star order!!! Squeezed more money under a pretext on 10$ bill when I gave a 100$. I will make them famous for the way they treat the customers.
Terrible experience. Felt Cheated. Don’t waste your money there.
Terrible experience. Snooty staff. Bad food. Nice decor though!! Worst was the checkout. Did not accept the card I use regularly. So I pay by cash. And then after while we wait for taxi, waiter comes out and says one 100 bill was less. Was a 10$ bill. Terrible terrible. Cheats. Will never go back and will tell everyone about the terrible experience.
Great meal if not for a rude hostess
Delicious grilled steaks and appetisers. Entire experience was good aside from the hostess reminding you that they need the table back at a specific time BEFORE they even sit you! That’s just plain rude. Spoils the entire experience. Mains are pretty limited and if you don’t eat beef, this is not really a place for you. Nonetheless, food was delicious
Amazing Australian Barbecue dishes meets Amazing WA Moss Wood wines
Fabulous set menu for the Moss Wood wines tasting dinner. We love these West Aust wines, but to have them paired with 7 courses of amazing food cooked in front of us was very, very special. The kitchen staff talked us through each course, before it was cooked and as it was served. Wagyu steak, King Crab and Bone Marrow were amongst the highlights. The flaming Bombe Alaska to finish was amazing.
Exceptional Dining And Service
Located in Dempsey Hill, it is a short taxi ride away from central Singapore. It is a well to do neighbourhood. This restaurant was the highlight of my trip as very high expectations and they were met and exceeded. It was my second birthday dinner and was so excited when I scored a reservation here. You need to book exactly 45 days before and exactly at 10am Singapore time if you want the best chance of snagging a booking. The reason it is number 65 in the world and has a Michelin Star is because of the amazing Australian style BBQ dishes and the awesome service. Not only is the servers extremely hospitable, they answer any questions you may have and nothing is too much for them. I had booked counter seating and this is the best seating in my mind even in a small group as you get to see the chefs in action and you feel part of it. If you’re lucky you might get to see chef owner, Dave Pynt. The menu is designed to be shared and lots of wonderful dishes to choose from. I had the Smoked Quail Egg And Caviar and Crab And Pork Sticker. Both very delicious and well executed. My sister had the Grissini And Taramasalata. Presentation was unexpected and it was tasty. We then shared the Cubano Pork Belly, Pakistani Lamb Chops, Flat Iron (Burnt Onion And Bone Marrow), Bone Marrow Bun, and Burnt Ends’ Sourdough. The meats were cooked perfectly and loved the cooking in the fire. Bursting with flavour and oh so tender. The bun was was served in foil and dripping with the marrow. So delicious. Sourdough was fluffy and great for mopping up the sauces. The service really excelled as when we reached the dessert, the menu was returned back to us however the Apple Tart that my sister had her eye on was crossed off which meant it was sold out. She was disappointed as she had seen it being plated in front of her all evening. One of the servers checked to see what he could do for us and managed to rustle up a dessert that was not on the menu that evening. It was the Berry Tart which I had seen on previous menus. He got it served with the Vanilla Ice Cream that was from the apple dessert as well as cream. I had the Chocolate Fondant And Smoked Ice Cream. It was presented with a candle which was a nice touch. We also got Marshmallows. It was flavoured with orange. The desserts were a wonderful ending to the dinner. What topped this evening off for me was that my sister organised a meeting with Dave. I think I was fanboying all night as once I had seen Dave on a few Netflix programs, I was excited to see him as he was also Australian. He was so nice and very much giving of his time and did not mind taking a few pictures with us. My sister had asked about the wines and he even took us to view the wine cellar. Nothing could top this on my holiday so I highly recommend a visit here. Definitely deserves all the accolades it has received.
EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING
With all the great reviews of Burnt Ends, we were looking forward to experience some extraordinary taste sensations. We left it too late to book into the main dining area, and could only get into the Cocktail Bar/Lounge. When we (two pax) arrived at the Cocktail Bar/Lounge, our table (just inside the front door) was still occupied, so we were "parked" at a table near the toilets. We were then offered a seat at the bar.....we would have left if our choice was between the "front door" or the "toilet" table. We had: - Pork taco - small serving, tasteless & way overpriced 0/10 - Jamaican chicken - the best of our choices, but still expensive for what you got 3/10 - Beef cigar - again, not much flavour, and expensive for what you got 1/10 The food was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING, so we did not order any more, even though we were starving. To drown our sorrows, we resorted to the cocktails which were extremely overpriced, even by Singapore standards. The music was very loud, making it difficult to have a conversation. On the bar directly in front of us, for the whole time we were there, there were two large containers with something being strained through a muslin cloth. This should be done behind the scenes, not in front of customers. The main restaurant might have a great vibe and fantastic food (according to the reviews), but our experience in the Cocktail Bar/Lounge was just poor to average food, the portion sizes were very mean, everything is very expensive, there was no value for money (what has happened to generosity?) and the whole experience was an extreme disappointment.

I have a notice stating that my bid has been accepted and is awaiting transfer. The reservation is for the 18th, but the “moderator” said he will confirm booking by the 28th. Is this an indicator that I may not have a reservation?

Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
