Uncooked
The guy running this place looks like he needs a good wash, and needs to learn how to cook fish and chips,itโs such a shame it used to be such a good chippy

What a great Plaice!!! Takes me back to childhood! Good old traditional fish and chips with a perfect cafe behind the counter. Everything cooked fresh and piping hot . Charming young gentleman cooking and serving

I used to visit this place with my late father - who passed on in August 2021. Always an excellent lunch, sat in the rear restaurant area. Dad loved it. Lovely staff, too. A great place to visit on Sunday.

First time I have been for several months to find a new owner who hails from Wigan. Extremely pleasant young man who was full of chat and banter and I hope will do well. I ordered 2 fish on entering where there was only one other customer who was leaving. I asked if he still used the same fish supplier as I always though it was the best quality fish for miles around with batter to match with fish cooked to perfection. He replied it was. I was seemingly waiting a lot longer than I expected and when I ate the fish I saw the result. The batter was hard and overcooked and the fish within was dry. I think a lighter batter and a shorter cooking time would improve this and I hope he takes this advice on board because he deserves to succeed. I will not be returning just yet however as I was very disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyNo beef dripping...!
I called in for a portion of chips recently has I was passing, when I got home I couldn't believe the portion size, it was very small infact a rip off. This chippy use to be brilliant. It was Yorkshire style and cooked in beef dripping and was unique people would have travelled miles to come here. The new owner has made a compleat mess of it now.

Drove from Bury for fish and chips. The other half went in for them. I could not believe it when I saw them. I wanted to drive back and complain but it was near closing time. They were disgusting and went in the bin. Hard as nails and dark brown in colour. Won't be going back. , They used to be really nice. Same the owner is selling rubbish

I visited this chippy on Wednesday 2nd June for the first time in a couple of years. I wish that I'd read the reviews before I made the effort! One of the highlights of any visit to the East Lancs Railway was always the delicious fish & chips cooked in beef dripping at Taylor's but, as previous reviewers have already noted, they don't use beef dripping anymore. What had been a real star of a chippy, with a huge flavour bonus over all the competition, is now just another of the same. There's nothing actually wrong with the fish & chips, but they're no longer better than anywhere else. Having said that, the staff are very friendly, and were open to the criticism I made over the change to the cooking medium. I was told that the change to oil was to cater for Asians and Muslims, who are not supposed to eat animal products. That is a business decision, fair enough, but it is not one that will attract this previously very satisfied diner back to the premises.
Be the first to ReplyTaylor's used to be good....
Taylor's used to ba a fantastic chippy and then it was taken over by new owners. I have tried it three or four times since in the hope they would get their act together but they haven't. The selection of food that's ready to serve is non existent so if you want a pie it gets warmed up in the microwave. The main problem is the tiny portion sizes, I ordered meat pie and chips and got less than half a tray of chips, its just not good enough. I thought I'd give it one last try but I won't be going again
