We were excited to try this restaurant as it is a Michelin guide Bib gourmand recommendation. ย Came for dinner on a early Thursday evening with the kids. ย Service was friendly and efficient. ย For starters we had a complimentary amuse bouche of boulliabase shooters with crackers and aioli cream (amazing flavours), the shrimp croquettes (insides were a touch too runny for my liking), and a very plain tasting salad with walnuts. For mains we had steak tartare which is mixed up right in front of your table and you can sample it until you get the exact flavour you like (dish was excellent), ours was the meal sized order which also comes with a salad and fries (these were just mediocre).Other mains were duck confit (skin wasn't crispy enough and duck was a bit bland), and sea bream (again skin wasn't crispy and meat was lacking in flavour). Pretty decent wine pairing options, but we only tried a rose (very good) and a regular red.Overall we were disappointed by the meal and didn't think it was a Michelin guide worthy recommendation.

Excellent food, and extremely knowledgeable and accommodating about my need for gluten free. Service was timely, helpful and unobtrusive. The wine list had excellent choices at good prices. Finally, the room is pretty, not noisy. A terrific experience.

. The entrecรดte is amazing, the langoustine soup to die for.... The wine was fantastic and a fantastic value. A must for those visiting Amsterdam!

We got there late and the staff was nice enough to stay late and cook for us. ย The atmosphere was very nice, staff extremely courteous. Great red wines and food. We had an appetizer made from veal tongue and cheek, also it had pate. It sounds weird but very rich and tasty. Our taste buds were very happy. Then we had the spring chicken and the scallops. Both excellent dishes cooked to perfection. This place is getting a five star. My husband got to meet the chef, which was awesome.

Have you ever had that dream where you are walking around naked in public? Everyone is staring at you and feel embarrassed? Well, that's exactly how I felt while eating the short ribs dish at this amazing place. I was enjoying it so much, that I felt as if I was naked and everyone in the place was staring at me, that's how good it was.The dessert, a chocolate tart, with meringue, and Valrhona chocolate ice cream was an intimate experience of sheer joy.The only negative thing I would say is that they were busy and the service took just a little too long, but it was like waiting for a woman who takes forever to get ready, but when you see her, you just want to ravish her on the spot.Brasserie Van Baerle is a fine dining sensation, that offers good value for money and superb food. If you haven't been, check it out.

As it looked such a smart, elegant place, I wondered where everyone was as we walked in, but then we spotted their great little courtyard garden. Couldn't have been a better choice, given the glorious sunshine. (Apparently you can't actually book a table in the garden, as Amsterdam's weather is about as reliable as London's). The first promising sign is that the menu is quite short - none of those long pages of pre-frozen, reheated dishes , so you know everything is freshly prepared. Our veal ravioli starter was unusual and quite a delicate flavour. The 'catch of the day', cod, tasted delicious and the portion sizes are just right, leaving you room for dessert - we chose a crepe suzette and mixed cheeses. Pleasing to see a mature Dutch cheese included in the selection, which I really enjoyed. One rather nice touch is that the menu recommends a specific wine to go with each course. Every dish is beautifully presented, the service is attentive without being overwhelming and price is reasonable. Finally - another reliable indicator of a good establishment - individual laundered hand towels in the ladies room. Loved it.

We found Brasserie van Baerle in our DK Eyewitness guide to Amsterdam and trekked there on trams in the pouring rain for Sunday lunch. The effort was rewarded as we entered a foyer in a stairwell that could have been in someone's home, where dripping coats and brollies were taken as we were ushered into the warmth of the dining room. Our guide had mentioned that this place is a bit of an institution for Sunday brunch/lunch, and as we surveyed the room, it was obvious that we were the youngest (and most casually dressed) people there. Everyone else was older, chic (read pearls and twin-sets for the women; sports jackets and smart casual attire for the men) and exceptionally well-behaved, not that we'd expected them to be dancing on tables but it was still a bit more demure than we'd anticipated. As we dried off, our amiable waiter brought water, bread and menus. We thought we were ready to order, but the plate we'd thought was a starter taster apparently comes in 3 courses, so it's three plates of different items from across the menu. We reconsidered and decided to do the starter plates plural instead of a starter and main. A wise choice, this turned into a wonderful gastronomic adventure. An amuse bouche of sauerkraut soup in a shot glass, with a small slice of delicate blood sausage served on a sprinkling of roast lentils started us off nicely. Then the first plate of Neptune's spoils arrived; a long spoon of salmon roe sat next to an oval of creme fraiche and a single, warm blini. The second plate, also fishy in its theme, consisted of a single claire fine oyster in its shell, a scallop set on a slice of roast zucchini and a slice of smoked salmon with a squeeze of lemon. The third plate was meaty - a small heap of beef carpaccio on a tiny leaf of cos, a slice of veal on portobello mushroom, rillettes of beef stew and duck with a strangely marshmallowy texture and a few cornichons to add a zingy crunch, and lastly, slivers of rich foie gras piled onto a small slice of baguette. By the end of all three plates, our tastebuds had been on a veritable rollercoaster. We were fascinated by everything we'd tried yet no where near experiencing a stuffy, immovable feeling. We still had room for dessert. This was served without delay; canneloni of white chocolate filled with a delicate mousse, crowned with amaretto-soaked cherries and an elegant swivel of brandy snap. Would you believe that the entire meal came to less than 100 Euros? That included a glass each of Veuve Clicquot and coffee. With fantastic staff who made us feel at home (in spite of my bright red clogs which I was wearing as an experiment for Clogblogger) and a warm atmosphere, it's easy to see why they recommend booking. I imagine that summertime at this brasserie must be even better, because they have one of those sought-after leafy terraces.
