BRASSERIE PALMENHAUS Wien Reviews
Too bad no Gluten Free desserts!
This is a lovely historic cafe in Vienna, but I was rather disappointed at my latest visit. While the service was fine, when I asked if they had any Gluten Free desserts, I was answered with what I felt was a rather emphatic No from our waiter. His explanation was " Here in Austria we like our gluten desserts". Now I live in Vienna, and have found most cafes offer at least one GF dessert, so I was rather surprised. The fact that so many people have Celiac disease, or have made a choice not to eat wheat should be taken into consideration here. As a baker it is not difficult to offer at least one GF item. Too bad, lovely place!
Small breakfast, bread and rolls were not fresh
Breakfast is really disappointing at this place. I was shocked that they serve rolls and bread which ist not fresh. In general you get very little on your plate. The service seems to be very stressed and not very attentive. I would not recommend this place for breakfast. You get very little for the money.
Underwhelming
We came here on a fleeting visit to Vienna after some thorough research. However, it was not to be the experience we had originally hoped. Upon entering the establishment we were promptly seated at a table next to two wide open doors, while the day was hot, the evening was less so and with a draft blowing in on us we requested to be moved. I ordered the schnitzel and my partner the teriyaki salmon. To be quite honest the food was overpriced and not up to scratch considering the price. The schnitzel was indeed tasty but lacked that “oomph” that Ive taste elsewhere. As well as this, the cranberry sauce was far too sweet and would perhaps be better accompanied by a dessert of some description. The teriykaki salmon was tasty and flavourful, but again, for the price, you may be left wanting more. All was well when we were requesting the bill until a glass of wine was spilled all over my partner and her new dress. The waitress was kind regarding the situation but it was some time until more wine was offered, to which we declined. We were the disappointed to discover the wine, which bas been spilled by our waitress was left to be paid on the bill. We countered this by requesting the money back, which we received somewhat begrudgingly by the staff. All in all, this was a very underwhelming and disappointing experience. I wouldn’t recommend this for that ‘special’ night out.

A friend recommended this place and it looked nice, so I stopped for dinner. Watch out for the €4.50 "cover" after 6:00pm, I've never seen that anywhere else. Regardless of this, I ordered and got served fairly quickly. The waitress did bring out some bread and hummus that makes up for the "cover" somewhat, I suppose. The food came next and it was pretty good. I was satisfied and still had a few bites left. The drink was not bad, I opted for an elderflower spritz. At the end though, was where I had a problem. I went to pay the tab and I was told I ordered a €34 daily special. I ordered the Minced Lamb Patties though for €24, and once I showed this picture to the waitress, she said "okay okay you're right" as if she'd been caught. She was unable to change the credit card total, but gave me some cash to resolve the issue. I'd recommend the place but make sure you take a picture of your food not just for your Instagram, but for any bill disputes later on...

The outdoor seating is just so lovely, it is covered to let you enjoy the spring air without being too exposed to the elements. It can have a fair amount of wait time depending on what day you go. We had goulash and a couple drinks off their drink menu, the spring g spritz being my favorite. The goulash had this large bread ball that soaked up all the sauce and was just decadent. You get a view of the gardens/park as well as the back side of Hofburg palace. One of my favorite stops while we were in Vienna.
Maybe just for drinks ....
The staff was kind of rude, we waited 40 minutes for our food. I wouldn't come back here for food, maybe only for drinks outside.
Loved this Cafe!
Loved this place next to the butterfly house, the best of all the cafes visited. Friendly staff, gorgeous cakes and great atmosphere.
Worth a visit.
Beautiful surroundings. Friendly staff. Quite a short menu but the trout was perfectly cooked and was delicious. Same went for the veal patties with truffle mash. The wine list is exhaustingly extensive filled with Austrian wines I’d never heard of but the waiter was very knowledgeable and guided us with tasters to a perfect bottle of wine. Good place to start our trip to Vienna. Would definitely recommend. I would think it is gorgeous in the summer.

The most special restaurant in all of Vienna, the atmosphere is truly unique. The food is extremely tasty and great portion sizes. Very friendly staff. We ate wiener schnitzel and wiener patty, highly recommend!
Brassiere Palmenhaus Wien
The stuff here is super friendly and the ambience is super nice and very cozy. I‘d recommend anyone who comes to Vienna to come here for a drink.
Just a beautiful restaurant.
Wonderfully decorated and lively establishment. It's located in the Burggarten and looks to be an old palace sized green house. The food was wonderfully elevated, the eggs super fluffy and the bread/jams were a perfect breakfast treat. It's best to have a reservation but they can also see you with a small wait. This is a must stop in Vienna

We all got very different dishes and we loved each of them Awesome atmosphere in the greenhouse Go early and expect to wait - or get reservations See pictures for what we got - they were all good!
A coffee in a beautiful setting
Very fancy place to get a coffee. Inside an old Palmhouse and next to the butterfly house next door you get some beautiful views in the sunlight. Servers were very kind and attentive . Bit pricey and the food on offer wasn't really to our tastes. They also don't list cakes on the menu so get a good look as you pass to your seat if you don't want to have to get up again to check the selection.
Lovely location, average food
This restaurant is located in Burggarten so the location is beautiful by itself. As you can imagine it resembles a greenhouse so it's really nice. Not a fine dining restaurant, I would say it's ok. Very crowded and the service was not the best. Ok food and prices. We wouldn't go back to eat but happily for a drink in their terrace.
It's a beautiful venue and that's the best thing about it.
Not to say everything else was bad, the food was pretty good and the service was fine but the most memorable thing about our experience there was how gorgeous the venue was. Would recommend to experience the ambiance. (Don't get me wrong, food is good. Just not the same level of remarkable as the aesthetics)

Probably one of the coolest places I've ever had the pleasure of eating at! Palmenhaus is definitely one of a kind type of experience. It has a greenhouse like structure and is located around a bunch of stone/ brick buildings, so it sticks out and is easy to find. You cannot get dropped off right in front. Our Uber dropped us off at the entrance to this center spot and we had to walk a few meters- nothing far. We walked in and the first thing you notice is how high the ceilings are. There is so much natural light (which I love) and amazing, lush greenery. We didn't have a reservation but we're told it was no problem. We waited a couple minutes for our servers to set up our table for 6, and were seated promptly. They have a nice variety on the menu. We ordered drinks first, which I got the aperol spritz. It was perfect, the nice 1/2 and 1/2 ratio is always appreciated. We then ordered some appetizers, since we were going to meet some friends at a spot for dinner a bit later. We got the cheese plate, as well as the chilled soup. I forgot the name of the soup, but it was interesting and pretty good. I love basil, and it had basil undertones. I had never had chilled soup before, but it was so hot and I love trying new things- so it was time to try. The cheese plate was good! Always love a good cheese plate- had different varieties of options for different preferences. Before the meal, they served a little dish of whipped ricotta and bread for everyone which was amazing! I think that one was my favorite. SUCH a great spot in Austria- highly recommend.

Excellent brunch items at this airy natural lit cafe in Vienna . The quality of the food is very good and with generous serving size. We had the yogurt with granola and fruit along with coffee , orange juice and some bread with honey and jam . All very yummy and the service was quite quick too .

We decided to check out this location for dinner on our last night in Vienna. The food was good, we ordered the fish and also truffle pasta. I will recommend to check out the biggest greenhouse in Vienna.
No care towards diners welfare!!!!!!! AVOID
What a great location and ambience. Sadly it ends there. One of our party had a nut allergy. When they realised that their dish had nuts, they asked for another without nuts. At this stage, no more was thought about. A ‘new’ dish was brought back and once they started to eat it, they realised that the nuts had been scrapped off the dish and given back. Luckily this was realised before they suffered too much. The restaurant manager was arrogant and nonchalant about the potential severity of it. The waitress who served the dish did not really care. Mistakes happen but this is unacceptable way to deal with a nut allergy. The customer service was appalling - the manager was more interested in his phone than dealing with the issue or taking the trouble to apologise. At one point, the waitress suggested that we were just trying to get a cheap meal. Extremely disgusting customer service and lack of concern to the diners welfare!!!!
Excellent for a little break!
Nice location - center, but hidden. It is in spectacular setting -,botanical garden - within park. The place is crowded in the evening. Prices are as per Vienna standards.
Cool setting for beers
The Palmenhaus Schnbrunn is a super cool greenhouse in Vienna that's also a great place to enjoy a drink ,not sure on the food as I've ever had beers in here . Opened in 1882 ,it's one of the largest greenhouses in the world,111 metres long ,25 metres high and 45.000 glass tiles ,it's certainly impressive ,we visited Palmenhaus on a bitterly cold afternoon ,the cafe area was busy ,we luckily managed to get a table were my twin brother Stephen and I enjoyed beers ,had a great time warming up and planning out the day ahead while sipping our beers ,if you're planning a holiday to Vienna it's most definitely well worth checking out and easy to locate in Burggarten .
