Food great.
Great dinner with a weird end. The dinner was excellent and the wine pairings were mostly really, really good. As we are paying, the host would not split the bill to reflect one couple having only one wine pairing with the other couple having two. He said it would be too difficult………..really?? Seems like pretty basic math to take the cost of the wine pairing off then split that portion and add the wine pairing back to the couple that had two. The wine pairings are well over $100 each with the service charge. It seems like such a small thing to do for customer satisfaction and this guy acted like he was too important to do that. Kind of unbelievable.

Simply out of this world! My lovely wife and I celebrated my birthday at Babel. We enjoyed their signature 13 course “Fall in Love” celebration tasting menu and added an optional 14th course. The restaurant is wonderfully decorated in a simplistic but very elegant style, and is appropriately quiet and slightly somber. We enjoyed a glass of local MCC whilst reviewing the menu for the evening. It was a no-brainer to add the Hungarian wine pairing option. This comprised 6 glasses of local white wine and / or MCC specially selected to compliment the food. As can be expected from a tasting menu, the portions are relatively small but each and every course packed so much flavour and taste and we were blown away gastronomically. Each course was carefully explained as to the contents and flavours and the sommelier explained the wines in detail. The combinations were excellent. Service was superb, understated but highly efficient. We had an awesome time and would highly recommend Babel which deserves its Michelin rating. Not a cheap evening, but one for the memory books!

Outstanding food and service. Every dish was delicious. We had an add on of their version of deviled eggs and it was amazing.

Lebanese doc. Special dinner with various tastings in a posh and comfortable environment. Professional service, ad hoc hospitality.

The food is just terrible There is no justification for the price Some of the dishes were left on the table as they were served They were simply inedible After we turned to the waiter claiming that the food was not tasty Answer us politely, that's all Not recommended at all, a waste of money

Disappointing disappointing very disappointing!! A pleasant restaurant, but the food is really not tasty, there is no real culinary experience here, there is no innovation, there is no variety of flavors between the dishes, very salty, some of the dishes were left as they were served because they could not be eaten. The dessert dishes suffer from a bitter aroma, similar textures between the categories, we ate an 8-course meal that was disappointing and not tasty at all. There is a lot of handling of plates, too bad not with the culinary. Very expensive price and does not justify the experience at all. The customer has no return for the cost and I do not mean the size of the portions but the design. I have previously been to restaurants in this category that were successful and the food was interesting, tasty, diverse and exciting, but this is really bad!! Look for another place and avoid heartache.
Be the first to ReplyBabel experience
Last night we had a truly lasting experience at the Bábel restaurant, which received a Michelin star in 2019. Upon entering, luxury is mixed with a sense of homeliness, atmospheric bar music plays, and the many mirrors and the giant glass wine cooler, which also functions as a room divider, are truly eye-catching. I admit, I miss the show kitchen a bit, because seeing the kitchen while working always gives me a bit of an insider feeling. The servers are extra nice and well prepared, they tell a lot about the food, and the two sommeliers know everything about the wines they recommend. It is interesting that the food seeks the wine, so the wine is a given, and the chefs create the flavors that best match them. Since only white items are recommended for the current menu, I chose the juices instead of the wine list, and I did not regret it at all. The ingredients seem strange together at first, but they are very tasty, my favorite was the carrot juice with coffee and basil, and the pumpkin with mushrooms and parsley. We arrived at seven, and there were still few people at the tables, and since we were seated in the middle, it felt a bit confusing, as if all the servers were standing in a clearing, watching when they would come to us. Fortunately, as the restaurant filled up, this changed, although I found it interesting that not one server took our dinner, but everyone turned around at our table - a real Babel mess was created, in the best sense of the word 😎 We tasted a 12-course meal, each of them was refined and well thought out, some of them were surprising and some of them gave an amazing taste experience. The single-bite delicacies are real flavor bombs: smoked eel, hot and cold duck liver, and cheese exploded in your mouth, but the complexity of the potato sticks was the absolute favorite. Among the main dishes, the tasty kohlrabi, the perfectly textured fish in the soup, and the specially served guinea fowl were outstanding. The flavor of the buttery venison was almost drowned out by the cranberry jus, even though it is one of my favorite meats. The signature dish is the casino egg: French salad on the bottom, with brunoise-cut vegetables, creamy egg mousse on top topped with Russian sturgeon caviar. A true masterpiece both in texture and presentation. Thank you for the experience! Gourmet Morti

Too complicated ; pompous and pretentious; extremely noisy customers and it was me who had to intervene; even the waiters couldn't make themselves understood when presenting the dishes! The boss thinks that all this is normal on a Friday!! Continue your soulless mixtures and don't listen to the customers (example a petit four with shortbread, white chocolate, dark chocolate, bergamot, red fruit and a flower!! Classy!!)
Be the first to ReplyA Theatre of Hungarian and Eastern European Food!
I reserved this as a birthday treat for my food loving other half. It was fantastic, superseded a lot of other Michelin star experiences. It was a theatre of beautiful food, just pure art on a plate. The staff were extremely attentive and proud of their creations. We picked Hungarian only alocohol to accompany each meal and the sommelier was fantastic. They even accompanied us to the taxi. I asked them how to eat certain dishes and they explained as I didn’t want to spoil their work. It was expensive but worth it! My least favourite was the coffee and they don’t do cocktails but that’s not an issue at all.
Be the first to ReplyYou get less than you expect! The overall experience is disappointing!
We had dinner here on 16th of February! The reservation was made on Thursday for two couples and Friday morning we wanted to add another person, but I was refused based on fact that they were fully booked! Because my husband is hungarian, he thought that maybe was a miss communication in english and he called one hour later and our request was accepted, but 5 min. later the restaurant called back and in the end they refused to add one more person... In the end, we went there for dinner and I've noticed they were not acctually fully booked and it was possible to come 5, with no pb.! Anyway, we were not impressed about the service, they were not friendly enough, they were more like robots, but at least the food was very good and also the pairing with the wine! I will not go there again for sure and I do not recommend it!
Be the first to ReplyDon’t go. Predatory Behavior
Babel “attempted” to introduce a predatory “17.5%” service charge for NY’s Eve! This is outrageous, disgusting, and unlawful! The most you’re allowed to charge is 15% by Hungarian mandate. Watch out for them. Remember: this money doesn’t go to the their staff, hospitality staff are not paid a good wage, have decent health care or paid vacations. This is PURE GREED!

Perfect experience all the dishes were very balanced and tasty I think it will get a second star soon the only suggestion I would make in comparison with the two and three star restaurants I have dined in is that prices should maybe be a little lower for the one star
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Food let down by poor service
Great Food let down by unprofessional service from both sommelier and lead waiter who were pompous in the extreme. Did not have the wine we ordered ( this is Michelin starred and that is unforgivable). We were informed of complimentary drink at start when in fact on the bill we were charged. The lead waiter was condescending and I have never been so insulted in the manner the bill was presented which was more of a challenge than a subtle professional service would have expected from top end restaurant. The food was excellent but let down badly by some of the client facing personnel.

Good 8 course menu with interpretation to local Hungarian dishes. Very helpful and competent personal. Great whine list.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding evening
We had a beautiful evening in this restaurant. We had the 14 dish menu and every morsel was sublime. The service by the waiting staff and the sommelier was outstanding. We spoke with the sommelier who is extremely knowledgeable and he selected a beautiful Hungarian red which was perfect. In all a great night in beautiful surroundings and definitely a wonderful Michelin experience. If you’re in Budapest go to Babel, you will not be disappointed.

I have eaten at several Michelin rated restaurant in my travels. Never had I had a better meal. Perfect in presentation, the food was sublime.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the BEST meals I’ve ever eaten!
In my experience, New Year’s Eve rarely lives up to the hype but our dinner at Babel this past New Year’s was perfection. Often times inventive food doesn’t taste good - not the case here - delectable. One of the most tremendous meals of my life and it was fun too - not stuffy or pretentious - even with the caviar. ;-)
Be the first to ReplyLife changing culinary experience…innovative with incredible mouth feel!!!!
Babel’s cuisine was unlike anything we have ever tasted before. Every bite was a new and exciting experience!!! The casino egg with caviar and pasta with veal and oyster were magnificent. We also love the plating and the overall presentation. Our servers were very attentive and friendly as well. The chef came out to greet us and we went back to take a photo with the awesome kitchen crew.
Be the first to ReplyNot more than OK, but OOPS, impossible to cancel a table even with a valid reason
I had looked forward to the visit, but unfortunately I got very sick in Budapest a couple of days before my reservation. I was begging for a cancellation and I would love to come back at another occasion, but NO. I arrived sick and was forced to eat a ten course menu with water instead of wine, which was quite traumatic. We had a table in a corner, so I did not have any view except from a stone wall to look into. My other half had the menu with wine pairing. She was quite happy, but not fun with me as the company this evening which was supposed to be special....The dishes where ok, a couple of them not successful, like the one with the eggs and the cake at the end. Only white wines and no reds, not even with the meat, which I found boring. I felt it was stressful for the staff to handle me as I could not drink alcohol at all, and I tried the courses but could ufortunately not eat them this evening, just taste. I would never recommend such a restaurant with so strict rules for cancellation to anyone, I am sorry.
Be the first to ReplyAverage food, so so service, too hot
While the menu looks ok, the dishes are way too small. The first few courses would be classified as amuse bouche in a proper fine dining resturant in the 11 course dinner. The "2" mains can be combined. Even then it is a tiny dish. Kitchen is not preparing food in order. My next table finish faster while they arrive 30 minutes later then us on the same menu. Service is ok, as expected. But fail to attend to our need. While the outside temperature is cool (15 degree C), the resturant is over 25 that makes me sweeting even with my jacket off and wearing only one shirt. With the delay in serving the dishes, it is the worst ever in a M* dining experience in my life. This is also the worst dinner in my whole trip of over 9 fine dining events.
Be the first to ReplyGreat experience
Surpassed all expectations that were already high. I didn't know my palate was that good. The wine pairing was perfect, they made it fun and interesting and the sommelier was friendly and eager to answer any question or comment
Be the first to ReplyA rather generic Michelin experience, warmth and heart missing
This establishment has a very posh location, nice cutlery and somewhat exciting interior design. Their food however, despite being cooked on a good professional level, does not try too hard to surprise or even please. Wine pairing was a bigger surprise, not in a positive sense unfortunately - solid supermarket wines priced at 10-15€ bottle on-shelf, poured into the glasses extremely carefully, 8 cl or so - 40€ + taxes for four MINI-glasses did not quit feel fair. Waiters and waitresses know well what to tell regarding the menu but lack personality and do not show interest in their guests.

There is an instant opulence from the moment you enter the restaurant. We where greeted with etiquette and made very welcome. We requested an outdoor table and was very pleasantly surprised at the instant atmosphere, candles lite all around the outdoor setting with an array of plants and quality music playing at a volume were you could hear but not intrusive. The food and wine tester menu was amazing and arguably tasted a white wine that was probably the best I have ever had. I made note of the wine and will be on my list of purchases. Each serving had its own personality and both head waiter and Sommelier gave clear intros to the food and wine. A most perfect evening ,four of us dined and all with similar opinions. Well done team Babel.

Be the first to ReplyUnique Hungarian-Modern cuisine fusion, well recommended
We had a lovely night at Babel Budapest with my english friends. It is the perfect decision if you would like to show your foreign friends Hungarian cuisine with a modern twist and fine dining. The atmosphere is really nice, the layout and lighting makes it feel intimate, no matter where your sit. The waiters were excellent, the food was not just delicious but an experience. A really well balanced menu that takes you on a journey. The recommended wine for each course were just right, one of the best wine selection in Hungary. I really recommend this experience to everyone.
