August New Orleans Reviews from The Last Year
Of all the amazing restaurant options in New Orleans -- a
Of all the amazing restaurant options in New Orleans -- a city that has some of my favorite places I've eaten in over the last 10 years -- I really regret I wasted the time and money to come here (and invited our friends to come with). The service was some of the worst I've had in any restaurant, but for the price of a 5-star restaurant. It all started well enough: we were greeted, got seated, our server introduced himself, we ordered cocktails, and they brought us some bread. Fast forward us asking for the wine menu, never getting it, asking someone else, finally getting it halfway through our apps, asking for a sommelier, finally being able to order a bottle of champagne, having a random server take glasses away from 2 people at our table while we had more champagne chilling somewhere, bringing them back, another random server dumping the last of the champagne to fill up one person's glass to the top while 2 of ours were empty, no one asking if we wanted anything else to drink, etc. We had to ask for an extra piece of bread 3 times before someone brought it, and then someone took my friend's plate with bread still on it right out from under her nose. No one asked how our entrees were. No one checked on us for most of the meal. I'm not even sure the server actually asked the chef about being able to order items off the chef's tasting menu since he forgot to let me know his answer until I asked again. It was almost laughable... if appetizers weren't $25-30, mains $50+, cocktails nearly $20, a glass of champagne $30, etc. We honestly should have known, since my friend came here last time and spent $1k to have a similar experience. What a joke.
The service was perfect from the moment the door was opened.
My husband hates creases on table cloths and there were no creases to be found. That shows the amount of care placed into the customer experience is thought through. The food was impeccable. Everything was cooked as requested. I had the wagyu entree, and I had it well done only because I'm expecting. I wish I was able to have the entree as it was supposed to be served because it was amazing. The whole Easter brunch menu was delicious and a balanced experience. The staff provided an excellent ambiance throughout the meal. Amazing experience all the way around.
Perfection
Everything was excellent. Not cheap, but well prepared and presented food. Staff is superb. I had fish and my wife had duck. Desserts were a great finish to the meal.
Stopped in for a quick bite at the bar.
Beautiful, cozy restaurant that is a bit on the quieter side (which I'm not mad about). Great selection of wine, cocktails, etc. The gnocchi was so so so good. The staff were very nice and welcoming. Seems as though they stay booked. I was able to walk-in and get a place at the bar.
Phenomenal Dinner in New Orleans
Absolutely phenomenal dinner! The staff were very attentive and provided excellent suggestions on the dishes and wine pairing. Everything we ate was beyond good. They gave us an amuse bouche in an hollowed out egg shell. Great spoon bread. We had a crawfish and asparagus appetizer and red snapper with shrimp main course and a creole cheesecake for dessert. Everything was perfection. One of the best meals we have ever had.
Fabulous Food; Great Service
Weβve been several times and itβs always enjoyable. Seafood is very well prepared and beautifully plated. Waiters knowledgeable about ingredients and preparation.

I went to Restaurant August with coworkers while on a business trip. I would categorize this as fine dining. There were white tablecloths and shining silverware. It was a little dark. It is not large restaurant but has a nice bar with seating at the bar and few tables in the bar area and a wine cellar. The menu had a nice variety of food dad drink selections to choose from. We all had the red snapper filet. It was delicious. We asked for bread and were served cornbread muffins. We had the hummingbird cake and rum raisin ice cream. Service was good. The servers were knowledgeable and friendly. August is a nice choice for date night and celebrations. Not sure if they could accommodate a lot of large parties in one evening. Definitely would visit again.
My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary.
The restaurant really went big to help us celebrate. The service was excellent - from the front door, to our conversation with the sommelier, to Chef Thomas coming out to say hello at the end of the dinner. And the food was outstanding. We started the spiny lobster and the escargot. I had the three-way duck. My wife had the snapper. Every dish was excellent. The wine (an unusual pinot fin) was excellent. The little goodies between courses were just good tasty fun. The room is gorgeous. Elegant, but not overly formal.
Quite possibly the best meal of my life.
And that's saying something! The enchanting dining room is beyond any expectation of a classic French restaurant in New Orleans. After being seated by the charming host, I ordered one of two spirit free cocktails called the Tonic de Jardin. It was refreshing and light which was the perfect antidote to my meal ahead. After ordering an appetizer and entree, a delectable amuse bouche was delivered and I'm cursing myself for botching the photo of it! An egg shell arrived filled with pea purΓ©e and burrata foam. There were toasted sunflower seeds mixed into the fluffy mix which rounded out the flavors perfectly. Next the escargot arrived which was prepared with black trumpet mushrooms, beer and Worcestershire. Event the celery leaves added to the complex ragout. Whoever decided to mix Brie and grits is a friggin'' genius! The duck three ways came after that and satisfied every desire I had of an entree. From the perfectly crisped duck breast to the seared Foie gras and the exceptional confit, this was the star of the meal. There were no dessert options available for gluten free, but the cappuccino made up for that! I had a little chocolate ice cream, but honestly I could have skipped that after the amazing meal. Exemplary service, exceptional cuisine and gorgeous ambiance. 10 out of 10!

Romantic ambience, exposed brick, excellent service - the entire staff, each and every one, was professional, friendly and passionate about our experience. Enjoyed every course! Wish I took more pics of the food! This is one of the top restaurants in New Orleans and convenient walking distance from our hotel. Sit back and enjoy the evening from cocktail, wine list, course selection and attentive staff.
Really one of the best restaurants in the states.
Would probably easily be a Michelin 1 or 2 star. Everything from starters entree and dessert. Even the little chocolates at end was excellent. Ambiance and service are excellent.

Extraordinary! The fried oyster is incredible: crispy crunchy outside and juicy refined taste inside. Duck three ways is another fantastic dish!
From start to end was a phenomenal experience.
Service was wonderful and the restaurant beautiful. We started with the Iberico pork which was tasty but for the price probably wouldn't get again as was very small. We shared several of the entrees - the duck, the red snapper, gnocci, and the wagu beef - every one of them was really delicious. You can't go wrong with any of these choices! The restaurant was expensive, but the quality was superb, so definitely would be back for a special occasion!
Revisit restaurant enjoyed previously
We previously enjoyed August during Tales of the Cocktail several years ago and decided to give it a try again. Had intended to do the Chef's Tasting Menu but were not really very hungry so we ordered alacarte. Husband got the pork app and duck 3 ways. Duck breast was a littlw underdone for our taste but overall was very good. The cherry sauce was phenomenal! I had the escargot which was very tasty followed by the red snapper with shrimp crab and mushrooms with a bearrnaise sauce. We really just weren't that hungry but was all very good. The desserts all looked wonderful but we past them by. Next time I plan on starving all day and doing the Tasting Menu!!

Excellent food, great service and ambiance in this intimate setting of a historic old building.
Excellent food and service
This restaurant is excellent! We hired the top floor room for a business function and the food was outstanding. Many complements to the chef. The service was faultless also. I highly recommend!
A fabulous experience during our latest trip.
It's located right outside the French quarter. A very nice restaurant and great service. I had the duck and my wife had the snapper. The duck was excellent with the addition of the foie grais, it was perfect
très agréable pour diner
Very pleasant discovery of this restaurant full of charm, impeccable and warm service, innovative cuisine, we had a very good time there. worth a Michelin star
Elegant Dining Experience
My husband and I visited New Orleans for serval days and visited serval culinary places. We ate at GW Fins, Muriel's Jackson Square, Antoines's just to name a few and Restaurant August of course. The Restaurant August is elegant with top notch service and great food. They have an extensive wine list (highly overpriced) in our opinion compared to the other establishments we visited. Great experience overall but was a little more impressed with GW Fins food, service and overall value.
Tasting menu for the win!
Make your reservation now! This was my favorite stop on our recent trip to NO and I canβt say enough about the food and service. We werenβt going in thinking of getting the tasting menu, but everything looked amazing and we had to try it. Beautiful presentation, coursed out at perfect intervals, the staff was helpful and pleasant and genuinely just great. Will absolutely be back next time we are in the area

What a beautiful restaurant with amazing service and delicious food! We ordered the tasting menu because everything on the menu looked amazing and we wanted to sample the chef's choices. Each dish was wonderfully prepared and presented. The range of flavors was well balanced, and the portion sizes were enough to fully enjoy the course while not overwhelming the palate. Highly recommended!
Wow! We did the tasting with wine pairing.
Every bite of food was delicious and creative. Excellent presentation and very attentive staff. We were full by the time we were done. The wine pairing wasn't quite as good as the food. They didn't give much explanation, and not all of the pairings felt like they really went together.
My new #1! Went for first time and did the tasting menu.
Innovative and fantastic. Food was skillfully prepared with a very seasoned and knowledgeable staff. Treated like a king and meal reflected that. This is the place you come to wow someone. What a great experience.
European Michelin Star meal
The title is not exaggerated, it was very comparable to a Michelin Star meal in Paris or Amsterdam. We had the full tasting menu with wine pairing (which I would recommend). It is certainly a bit pricey, but it was excellent.

The next time youβre in NO, make a reservation at August! Youβll thank us, I promise. π€€ FIVE STAR REVIEW βοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈβοΈ The meal started out with a βgift from the chef.β A savory leek custard, topped with pumpkin mousse and a sprinkle of sweet & salty crunch, presented in a perfectly carved eggshell. I guess the secret is out now! π Our sommelier suggested Pinot Noir. Monty chose Belle Glos Las Alturas. Letβs just say that we started shopping for it online immediately after the first taste. Tender, yet slightly firm, with a delicate, pillowy texture, but the truffle took it to a whole βnuther level! They gnocchiβd it out of the park with this one. For dinner we shared duck three ways with Bayou Cora grits, foie gras, confit, chestnut mushrooms and cherry bounce. Yβall, Iβve had foie gras, but never before like this. This was definitely meal to remember with the love of my life, my favorite dining companion, and my partner in culinary escapades. Had a beautiful meal here during our 30 hour layover in New Orleans. I was impressed with the ambiance and service, but the real showstopper was the food. We opted for the chefs tasting menu with the wine pairing. It highlighted local cuisine in a modern way and was so creative and delicious. I look forward to another meal here when we revisit this beautiful city.
Worth a star from Michelin!
The best venue of all, absolutely beautiful rooms. We were seated in a back room by ourselves! Room was beautiful dark woods, comfortable chairs, looking onto another room with gorgeous chandeliers, also overlooking an upstairs wine room, with hundreds of bottles just waiting! We were given an amuse upon being seated. It was a hollowed out egg shell sitting in small egg dish, holding pumpkin mousse and what they said was pumpkin pepita topping. That may have been miscommunication, as have never heard of such a thing! One of us had red snapper with wild mushroom sauce and topped with crab and shrimp with Bearnaise sauce. One had Wagu steak thinly sliced, with Bordelaise sauce and candied fresh yams diced. I had one bite of a snapper dish and had no more, not feeling well! Rum raisin ice cream was dessert. Ambiance is lovely, this is like a private menβs club with wine cellar! We ordered rum raisin ice cream to finish. Every single piece of china to how the waiters had been trained was top notch, worthy of a star! You could tell the wait staff had been specially trained in how and what to do in different scenarios.
Date night perfect eatery.
Outstanding service, outstanding food. The menu is not expansive but adequate. The portion size is definitely on the small side but we did not leave hungry.
Restaurant August Family Dinner Perfection!
Just absolutely love everything about this restaurant. The decor, the ambiance is perfect. The service is impeccable with a team. Ben took great care of us. We ended up having the sick three ways, nee York strip, and the snapper dish. Everything was cooked and presented to perfection. I. Rough a 2015 Chris Tynan Cab which they decanted shortly after being seated. The chocolate pot de creme was my favorite dessert.

Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
