Exceptional food and drinks
Exceptional food and drinks. Very unique place with delicious dishes. The restaurant is beautiful and the team is top notch.
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant!
Such a great restaurant! The place is really nice and well designed. The food is amazing. Liked the mud crab, emu, fish and frites. Also enjoyed the cocktails especially the martinis and old fashioneds.
Be the first to ReplyWow! What an experience!
We recently ate here during a trip to Melbourne and it was the highlight of our trip. Expensive, yes, but this felt like a life experience - delicious indigenous food and a very relaxed atmosphere. The ‘eat the problem’ lasagne was probably the best lasagne I ever had. Waiting staff were very friendly with no pretensions or stuffiness. Loved it!

We were not sure what to expect and wow what an absolute surprise. The theme of the food is everything Australian . The staff were incredible, they were very attentive. A bit shout out to Alec for his knowledge of the wines and the non alcohol drinks, but a bigger shout out to Dani, it was her first night on the floor and she was an absolute superstar. You would not have picked it as she was so professional and just a delight. The experience at Attica was incredible. If you are looking for something with a twist, do yourself a favour and book. Loved it.
Be the first to ReplyExceed expectations and I really didn't think that was possible
This has been on my list of places to go for a very long time. I wish we'd gone years ago. Wow what a mind-blowing and tastebud sensational meal. Perfect service, amazing food, wonderful drinks and experience. In spite of being the most expensive meal I've ever had - I have to say it's worth it. The effort that has gone into each dish is astonishing. This is hands down the best restaurant in the city if not the country. I will be back.
Be the first to ReplyAn unforgettable experience
Without a doubt, the best food we have ever eaten in our gourmand lives! A gastronomic sensory experience like no other. Words cannot aptly describe the amazing food we ate here, it just wouldn't do it justice. The service was impeccable and the ambiance lovely and calm. They have an incredible wine list. If you ever had any hesitation in going here, believe me, it was worth every penny. It is truly an unforgettable experience.
Be the first to ReplyAccessible elegance
I had a really fantastic experience at Attica. The staff were attentive and professional without being obsequious or invasive. The restaurant is coolly elegant, but accessible. The food is inventive and well-prepared, classy without being fussy. The ingredients, many of which were new to me, felt as though the old Aussie TV presenter, Bush Tucker Man, decided to open a fine dining restaurant. Crocodile, Quandong berries, Wallaby hot dogs, to name a few were all really interesting and delicious. I wasn't drinking that night, so I tried several of the mocktails, all pretty decent, but the real standout for me was their take on a virgin Gin & Tonic. All in all a wonderful evening, definitely recommended!
Be the first to Replyamazing service and extraordinary food but wine list needs help
we were blown away by the extraordinary creative use of Australian ingredients - tasty exciting refreshing. Wonderful to see our Australian ingredients showcased with pride. The waiting staff were massively well informed about the menu and the number of wait staff per client was far above even the best restuarant standard. The wine list was narrow and self indulgently flamboyant - a lack of mainstream choices - easily fixed though. Delightful evening.
Be the first to ReplyExpected more from Attica, with its big reputation
Had expected more from this highly rated restaurant. My wife and I found the dishes had over emphasized Australian game. Nonetheless, the best dishes were for me the honey glazed crocodile ribs, kangaroo steak, & crab sandwich. Not sure about going to the backyard for the games & hot dog (interesting idea, but perhaps a little too casual, & out of synch with the restaurant). Desserts were ordinary . Service was decent. Lastly, found the ambience & lighting in the dining room a little harsh . In a city of many fine restaurants, Attica does not stand out
Be the first to ReplyA pricey 10-course dinner for croc, emu, green ants and fun
What a pricey joke ! My birthday dinner was like a poverty tasting experience >_< . Started eating with hands only, beans and ended with ants 😵 💫 Disregard the price, Attica is not bad if you are after fun and exceptional food ingredients such as croc, emu, green ants. The first course - BBQ croc already put me off. Provided no cutlery, it’s too messy and greasy to eat with hands only. I’m a light eater, too filling to start with. The 2nd course was a tiny clay pot of wattle. These 2 starters killed all appetite for coming courses. Other than the overpriced 10-course dinner tasting menu, wine markup is fairly high except their own labelled wines though not recommended. Deco no where near fine dining restaurant class.
Be the first to ReplyReally one of the Best in the world
Attica was one of a kind in the use of "uncommon" food stuffs or mixed common and uncommon ingredients to have a unique but all had very fine and nice taste with the right balance of sweat sour and saltiness. We enjoyed all the presented courses very much. Attica deserves it long years of reputation of being on top of the list of best chef hatted restaurants in Australia and it really is one of the very best in the world. The service was excellent and attentive despite the full and crowded restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyHad a fabulous time at Attica
I took my sister here last night for a special occasion. We both had a fabulous time. The food was as expected, different, experimental and delicious. We walked out satiated and satisfied, The best part was the outstanding service. Lovely, friendly, knowledgeable staff, who made us feel special. Thank you for a great night!
Be the first to ReplyToo much experimental Australiana
Saddle up for a dose of 'Bush Tucka' folks! Let be begin by saying I've had many 'experiencial' meals in my time, right up to last month in Europe. Most are of a nature you wouldn't want to repeat more than once a year of at best seasonally. This one I definitely don't require again. The ponderous nature of the dining experience itself is highlighted by the fact it is drawn out over ten courses lasting very nearly four hours. Unfortunately on top of it all, I found myself feeling most unwell a couple of hours later due to something in the meal not agreeing with me. The wine pairing (which I generally avoid) also cane with a lot of patronising from the wine staff. I found myself going to lengths to point out I was either extremely familiar with the varietals or even in cases the specific wines served so as to not have to feel so talked down to. Lastly, we were really underwhelmed by this establishments eclectic decor. It truly wasn't up to level other establishments attempting to present this level of dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyAn experience of new flavours
Attica is all about unusual native ingredients, so arrive with an open mind and be prepared to try flavours you’ve never experienced before. Not all courses hit the high notes individually, but collectively a very memorable meal. Warm service and great wine as well with a bit of theatre thrown in for good measure. The tasting menu is a lot of food, turn up hungry.
Be the first to ReplySome things don’t necessarily need to be eaten
So… a very difficult one to review until one is honest with oneself - on the face of it a complex, challenging meal invoking the sort of foodie equivalent of imposter syndrome - doubting what you like in a meal…but being afraid to say so - but in short I didn’t like any of it - apart from the cocktails which were awesome and most enjoyable part of the experience. Things just collapsed when it came to the food. Theme was indigenous Australian ingredients - but the close to obsessive focus on these ingredients frankly meant a total lack of good, balanced enjoyable dishes. The “hand” canapés (shared dishes of green ants berries, saltbush etc) weren’t particularly sensible to serve in a pandemic even after hand sanitizer (after all what is the hand doing - taking the food to the mouth) and actually weren’t very nice - sour, bitter intensity - like eating a random bit of bush and deeply regretting it afterwards. Crocodile was a fatty bony congealed lump of stuff - no amount of lemon myrtle and salt could disguise that - served as hand food presumably to deal with accidental ingestion of razor sharp bones. Just not great. A caviar of ants in honey with Blini and cream cheese served as being akin to caviar really didn’t work as the ant heads were sharp and caught in one’s throat. Actually it reminded me of when sticky liquid ant killer used to be in vogue. Stop it I don’t like it… A pate of emu liver was itself great… but ruined by the intense sour notes of the (admittedly spectacular) blossom it was served in and the cloying red (hibiscus?) sauce poured over it. The two fish courses - a medley of seafood and a freshwater crayfish soufflé were both awesome - no need to invent anything particularly outrageous or Australian here - just cook some fish well and serve it. Brilliant. Then it was back back to the Australia focus “mate” - Kangaroo was awful - little squares of meat on a skewer served with a splurge of tasteless pepper sauce (except it wasn’t peppery) and really bad fries. The server commented they would be the best fries I have had all day…. She obviously hadn’t been a local fish and chip shop recently - they were dry twigs of potato. Deserts weren’t much better - an average cheesecake served outside in front of a smokey fire and an overly sweet coconut ice cream with a tart native cherry. Then we escaped. It was expensive, but it wasn’t nice. To my mind it was using ingredients because they were Australian, not because a better option existed overseas. I wish they stopped this sort of focus and looked at areas they could provide tangible outcomes.
Be the first to ReplyOriginal and innovative ...with excellent service
We had been planning to go to Attica for a long time and finally made it. The vibe in the restaurant is lovely without being pretentious which is a relief. Service was very good and friendly with very well trained staff. The food itself was innovative and original - think ants, crocodile, emu - very Australian...but I wanted more of a WOW flavour explosion in more of the dishes. I think the restaurant would benefit by having a few less courses (there were 10 dishes) and really focusing on those that are absolutely yummy and unique. We did enjoy going outside for the Basque cheesecake first dessert - a nice twist!
Be the first to ReplyHmmm...
This was our second visit to Attica, sadly this visit was not as inspiring. The food is absolutely spectacular, and I can’t begin to query the cost given the lengths the team must go to in order to source such exquisite and unusual produce. Cocktails and wine list are also amazing. My life would be notably improved if I had the recipe for Ripponlea Calling! Unfortunately, the fabulous culinary experience was let down by the service, and, to a lesser degree, the restaurant itself. A probably very passionate wait staff came across as arrogant and elitist, one in particular clearly enjoying humbling us with their own highfalutin descriptions of some the cocktails, and the wait service was scripted to the point that the service felt entirely contrived (and in some cases so monotonously delivered it was menacing!). Too many inside references became isolating (are we supposed to be following every move of the Attica team on Instagram???) and towards the end of the meal we could only laugh as we heard line after line identically repeated, tone, pace and joke included, to the guests dining around us. It just lacked any sense of effort to build genuine rapport. I would have liked the menu presented at the end of the meal to have had some detail on the dishes - I know we ate Reko (Rennie) and Ben’s Caviar (and omg amazing) but heck, our experience could have been extended well beyond the meal had the menu listed the features of the dish, and no doubt would have been a talking point and may have inspired us to learn more about indigenous foods. Don’t get me wrong, we had a fabulous night out and enjoyed the dishes immensely but our last Attica experience felt mysterious, exciting and shared with the Attica team - and that was so alluring - not so much this time.
Be the first to Replynot sure
I was left with very little food for thouht.
Not sure I shuld have spent this money for an experience which to me seemed to have little impact on my expectations.
Sorry but I am not sure i should recomend it.
Disappointed
The cost is eye watering, but I’ve heard so many positive things bounced around about this place, I thought I should probably give it a go.
But let me start with the positives. I loved the vibe and decor of the restaurant. Elegant yet still casual and relaxed. The staff were also incredibly well versed. I asked them a question about one of the dishes and the knowledge contained by the waiter was mind blowing. They really know their stuff and clearly well trained.
But….the food. Sorry it just didn’t hit the mark for me. And it just went on for far too long. I know it’s a degustation but really 4 hours is pushing it.
Worst meal of our lives
We paid $1000 plus. Too experimental. Carrots SO rich one almost threw up. Tiny courses over such a long period that it's difficult to digest. Perhaps would be fun once, if it wasn't a rip-off.
Be the first to ReplyWas hoping for more.
What can I say, the food was good and the service was great but nothing was that special. For just under $1000 we received 3 seafood, 4 veg (inc 1 ‘ant’), 3 desert but JUST only 1 meat dish paired with wine.
I wish I had come here a few years ago, the food now seems a little uncreative using things like honey in dishes for sweetness and finger limes for sour. The restaurant now seems like they are just riding off their 3 hats and expect you to pay $320pp (without wines), for things like 2 different types of oyster dishes, mini blinis with sour cream and honey with bits of ant that don’t really do anything, marron with claws i had to crack myself and a farewell block of caramel made with crocodile fat that really didn’t do anything to alter it’s taste. There were a few uses of native ingredients but I think it lacked in demonstrating the wide range of Australian ingredients and native techniques used.
High point of the night, the tomato toasted sourdough dish and front of house service.
Low point of the night, receiving 1 meat dish (even a meat snack in the first few courses would have been nice) so only 1 glass of red the whole night, the back ‘garden’ not actually being a garden at all and not as many native ingredients used as I would have expected.
So to recap, if you are looking to have a fancy night out, don’t care too much about what food your getting but expect quality food and service then this is the place to go. If you are looking for a culinary experience and have your palate tested then look elsewhere.
Food for thought
Not what I expected. It's okay for the esoteric few who like rare and indigenous ingredients. Wichita grub is off the menu replaced with ants. Did not expect a humble potatoe being elevated to the dizzy heights of fine dining, a toasted sourdough slice sauced with tomatoes topping or fresh salad bland with nothing else. Mains were tiny and very plainly presented. Desert was an ice cream cone with choice of topping which you eat in the back room. Note my cup of tea, alas only brewed coffee at a price after your meal.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible!
Well, wasn’t that a fun experience! We arrive at 6pm (after having to pay $640 upfront for the food). We were curtly told we had to have our masks on until we were seated at our table and when seated (ten steps at most) we were told we could now remove our masks. We were further told that if we used the bathroom, we would have to put our masks back on – “this is the law” we were sternly, if inaccurately, informed.
We are an older, gay couple that travel the world eating in the best reviewed restaurants. For example, in the last few years we have dined at Central (Lima), Gaggan (Bangkok), Septime (Paris), Tickets (Barcelona), The Clove Club (London), Borago (Santiago), Le Bernardin (New York), Maido (Lima), The Test Kitchen (Cape Town), The Ledbury (London), Astrid y Gaston (Lima), Lyle’s (London), Nahm (Bangkok), Don Julio (Buenos Aires) just to name a few!
So, after the pleasantries, I tried to orientate myself. It appeared to be a L shaped room and we appeared to have been seated at the furthermost extremities of the restaurant in what is referred to as “Siberia”. I went to use the toilet to work out the layout of the restaurant and discovered that there was a smaller, better lit room near the kitchen where the two other occupied tables in the restaurant had been seated. They were younger people.
I returned to our table and I asked why we had been seated in Siberia, when the restaurant was virtually empty. The maître d appeared to assure me that “there is a non-discriminatory policy at Attica” and strangely repeated that “there is a non-discriminatory policy at Attica” two more times. I was left with the distinct impression that he “doth protest too much, methinks” and that the action had been beyond ageist and was homophobic.
We moved tables, but the night was beyond repair! Ordinary food including an odd trip to the backyard for an ice cream cone that disintegrated in my hands (and tasted crap!).
When leaving I informed the maître d that I would be all over social media about how we had been treated and his response was “yeah, whatever”…$900 later…avoid at all costs!
Magnificent!!
We ordered the bake shop cheesecake to pick up for a special occasion. I can honestly say I've never tasted a more delicious cake in my entire life. So more-ish. Thank you Attica!! An absolute knock-out!
Be the first to ReplyAttica at home = fabulous
Delivered on time - such a nice touch to be delivered by gracious staff member in a suit. Set the right tone.
Cocktails were delicious.
Meals needed a tiny bit of heating.
We had the classic menu - potato with curd, lamb, trifle, plus a cheesecake for another day.
2 savoury dishes and cheesecake (didn’t last for another day!!!) were magnificent. The trifle wasn’t quite my thing but others enjoyed it.
I can’t wait to order again. Thanks, Attica team.
