atera New York Reviews from The Last Year
I had the best meal of my life at Atera for my birthday
I had the best meal of my life at Atera for my birthday last night (no, I'm not exaggerating). We made reservations a couple of weeks out. They weren't impossible to get but still recommend planning early as there are only about ten tables in the restaurant and they only do two events per evening (only one on Monday and Friday). The restaurant doesn't have a permanent location. It moves around every so often. The latest location is in a building in Tribeca. The sommelier met us outside and greeted us by name and led us in an elevator upstairs to where the restaurant was. It was a little unusual and the building felt a bit industrial for how high end the restaurant is, but the meal and service made up for it. The best way to describe the meal is culinary theater. We were seated directly in front of the chefs who were preparing our meals with our chairs facing them. It felt like we were part of an audience. They prepared the food quietly so you could carry on your conversations. Unlike hibachi style dining where the meal prep demands your full attention and diners go to be entertained, this was more subtle (and in my opinion, artful and graceful). The tasting menu had 12 courses. We didn't know what the food would be in advance. I don't usually do well with surprises with it comes to food, but oddly, I enjoyed it here. I decided to go with the vegetarian tasting menu since I don't eat certain raw meats (this menu isn't explicitly advertised; you have to request it in advance). My husband had the omnivore menu. In my experience, some vegetarian menus aren't executed as well as the main menu, but here, I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. They matched the vegetarian dishes to their meat counterparts masterfully both in appearance and taste. For example, for one tuna entree, I had beets instead which mimicked the appearance of the raw tuna. The first few courses were "starters" meant to be eaten in one or two bites (they'll actually tell you how many bites they recommend), then we had a few "mains" which were still small and delicate. Finally we ended with two sweet courses. I'm not a big eater so I worried about being too full but it was perfectly balanced and just the right amount of food for a tasting. My husband also had a mocktail pairing which came with 6 different drinks spread out throughout the meal. I think it's wonderful they have non alcoholic options. Each of the drinks had such interesting ingredients, intentionally designed to match with the particular course. I've been to several restaurants that are experts at preparation, whether it's making the best steak or the best pasta but I think the mark of a great restaurant is creating an experience unlike you've ever had. That's what Atera achieves with its flavors. I was beyond impressed.
We've been meaning to come here for a while, and being that
We've been meaning to come here for a while, and being that it was my husband's birthday, we figured it was the perfect time to make reservations. The service was beyond wonderful. The vibe was relaxed, yet still refined. The food was beautifully plated and even more delicious than one could imagine. I absolutely loved the play on textures and flavor profiles. Both added so much depth to each plate. We've been to other Michelin star restaurants, and this one is at the top of the list. Their playlist is quite eclectic too. I always love a diversified playlist, I feel like it adds to the dining experience.
We were very much looking forward to our meal at the chefs
We were very much looking forward to our meal at the chefs counter but unfortunately they are currently in a temporary space for renovations. We were not informed of this change until after we arrived which felt like a bait and switch. The temp space is clean but bland and the ambience is nothing that you expect for this type of meal. The staff pleasantly greeted us and we were shown the wine list. We selected a bottle and were informed by the sommelier they wouldn't recommend that bottle based on the menu. The music was so loud it was hard to hear my partner which made it difficult to enjoy our anniversary. The food was very good but it was a shame it wasn't paired well with ambience. They really missed the mark. I wouldn't recommend attending until renovations are completed.
I came with a friend for their birthday, and I was blown
I came with a friend for their birthday, and I was blown away by all of the attention to detail. All of the staff made sure to personally wish my friend a happy birthday and tried to make the experience as immaculate as possible. The food was also so delicious. Some standouts for me were the Halibut course and the Wagyu course. For the Halibut course, the fish and scallops were cooked perfectly and played very well with the sauce. And the wagyu was cooked and seasoned perfectly. I also enjoyed the Pork course, which was served as a kind of pork belly chowder with a deeply flavored broth. In addition to the wonderful service and food, the sommelier was fantastic. We went with the wine pairing, and he made sure to go into the history of the bottle being poured. It made for a fascinating experience although it sometimes was hard to hear him over the ambient music. The wine was also so excellent and paired perfectly with each course. In particular the wines paired with the dessert courses really balanced out the sweet with a light tartness, which made for a perfect dessert experience. All in all, I can definitely say that Atera earned its Michelin stars. It was a fantastic experience, and my friend and I enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a special, luxurious dining experience.
I went here for my birthday and I honestly would come back
I went here for my birthday and I honestly would come back for even a regular occasion. Each dish they prepared was delicious and it just kept getting better! There was no inconsistency with the meal and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The service was impeccable. The staff were kind and smooth with how they handled everything. The ambience was lovely! I sat at the bar seating so I can see how the chefs prepared the dishes. Overall, an amazing birthday experience!
So far .
.. my absolute favorite tasting experience It's very engaging diverse creative cozy yet profesional Makes you feel all your senses and really focus on the tasting not eating
As a Michelin-starred restaurant, Atera sets the bar high
As a Michelin-starred restaurant, Atera sets the bar high and it undoubtedly exceeds expectations in every aspect. It definitely has to be one of my top five dining experiences EVER ! I had made reservations not too long before the trip but was fortunate enough to grab one for an evening I preferred . What i also like is the fact that they let you cancel at least 24 hours in advance which a lot of other similar restaurants didn't allow . From the moment you step in , you're transported into a world of culinary artistry and innovation. The sleek and modern décor is both minimalist and a little understated and lets the food take center stage. However is far from being minimal -from ushering you in to seeing you off every detail is meticulously curated to enhance the overall experience. I had opted for the U shaped communal seating as that gets you the view to the kitchen .Additionally there is also a high top seating right behind the counter. The menu at Atera is a testament to creativity and craftsmanship, showcasing seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Each dish is a work of art, thoughtfully plated and bursting with flavor, textures, and aromas. With the multiple courses its hard to pick what was my favorite but if I had to the cavier custard would come on top. For me the whole meal was such a beautiful play on textures.. things just taste and felt different than how you perceive when you first see them being presented. The service is impeccable, with a team of attentive and knowledgeable staff who guide you through the dining experience . I had decided to not get wine pairing but in hindsight I feel it would have elevated the experience a notch further. We did get a bottle of red and then a few glasses in between and everything paired very well with the food . Overall, Atera is a culinary destination like no other, where art and innovation converge to create a dining experience that transcends the ordinary. For people looking for an unforgettable dining experience Atera is an absolute must-visit.
Late review, as I dined here back in October of last year.
This place is my all time favorite restaurant in NYC so far. Great wine list. Each course for dinner was exciting, unique, beautifully plated, and felt inspired. Service was incredible. I felt like they could read my mind. I didn't have to ask for anything. 100% will be back.
This place was so good! I'd never been to a Michelin Star
This place was so good! I'd never been to a Michelin Star restaurant before, but my boyfriend and I were visiting New York and decided to give it a try. So glad we did! We arrived slightly early and were greeted at the door and shown our way in. It's definitely an unsuspecting location, but that was part of the fun! We were seated at a U-shaped table that looked into the kitchen. There were 4 chefs and a sommelier that greeted us. My friend chose to have the wine pairing but I stuck to water. I did mark on the survey that was sent to us that it was our anniversary but there was not mention of it dinner... maybe they don't do anything on anniversaries but I think it's strange that they would have that as an option and not do anything. The service was AMAZING. The servers and sommelier were so attentive and even folded my napkin for me when I was in the bathroom. During the main course we also spilled some sauce on our place mats and they were very quick to wipe it up. Each dish was served to us by one of the chefs and they explained what we were eating. There were 11 total and mg favorites were the king crab, scallop, wagyu, and passion fruit. I personally didn't love the squab, but that's just my personal taste and it seemed like others really enjoyed it. We finished the dinner with a pour over coffee that they made directly in front of us and was so delicious. My only complaint is that all the desserts were fruity and I wished there had been something more savory. If you're thinking about coming, do!! We loved our time here and hope to come again when we're in the city.
The overall experience was underwhelming.
Out of 11 courses, only the carviar on custard and crab ravioli in broth were memorable. Base on the value, food and service, I would not recommend it
Wow! I could say so many great things about Atera.
This fine dining experience was spot on. Not only did the 13 course meal and 6 drink pairing exceed my expectations but the service and ambiance was spectacular. Definitely recommend
Rating this 2/5 based off of experience, service, and value.
We were so excited to book our reservation one month in advance and I felt robbed of the money we paid upon leaving the restaurant. Booked a trip to NY and dined at Atera back in November to celebrate my birthday and our anniversary. Unfortunately, the food did not blow us away for $300+ per head. I was expecting molecular gastronomy to be integrated into the food but we did not see any of those techniques executed. Each dish was also quite small, and tended to have much of the same flavor profile consisting of egg roe and caviar. I actually felt a bit sick to my stomach because almost every dish had these elements and it was extremely fishy and salty. For 2 michelin stars, I was very confused by the menu and felt hungry the entire time. On the service front, it was pretty great, and it was cool to sit at the bar and watch the chefs work. However, I felt uncomfortable and pressured by the mixologist/sommelier's behavior when I told him I was not drinking alcohol that night. He asked me at least 3-4 times over the night if I would consider trying something from the non-alcoholic cocktails list, which I declined politely each time. The other thing that sticks out is the vibe. I thought it would be a bit more comfortable and casual environment, but it actually felt somewhat stiff and the service, although courteous, was robotic. We were also sat next to a couple who made me a bit uncomfortable, as they were talking to us about their many homes across California, C-level executive jobs, and extravagant travels. As a student who had saved up for this trip and meal, it turned me off. Just a note that the environment was somewhat stuffy. I really think we would have enjoyed a nice meal for cheaper at a steakhouse, or Gramercy tavern, Carbone, etc there are so many better options in NY. We actually much preferred our $69 omakase meal the next night.
Atera turned my birthday into an extraordinary experience!
Atera turned my birthday into an extraordinary experience! The cozy ambiance and personalized menu added a special touch, making the evening truly memorable. The dishes were a delight, each paired perfectly with exquisite wines. The service was impeccable - attentive and knowledgeable, enhancing our dining experience. Atera is a gem in NYC for anyone seeking a blend of warmth, sophistication, and culinary excellence. Highly recommend for a special occasion or a treat-yourself night out!
This two star Michelin joint in Manhattan has all the
This two star Michelin joint in Manhattan has all the makings of being an all star, but slightly misses the mark. The location is interesting. Tucked inside the lobby of a medical building hides this beautiful space. A total nod to old New York. Super romantic! The staff is attentive and very helpful. The wine list is extensive and solid. They also offer a mocktail menu. As for the food...everything is good and the kitchen is on point, but very little left me wanting to rush back. I think that is the issue. In a town full of amazing restaurants, for this price, there are better options. That being said the stars were the trout roe, the caviar (two raw dishes) and the squab. I would be curious to revisit. Maybe this menu wasn't the one for me. Either way it was very good.
Solid 2 Michelin star
Atera and Danish chef Ronny Emborg delivered a solid fine dining experience. The cuisine at Atero is pure, fresh and simple, yet still very innovative embracing the Nordic Kitchen manifesto. The service was spot on and the dishes paced perfectly. A very solid 2 Michelin stars in New York
I had one of the best culinary experiences ever here.
Do yourself a favor and do the wine pairing if you can, I tried some amazing wines. My favorite dish was probably the trout roe with foie gras, but it was super hard to pick a favorite The flavors were so on point and everything got better throughout the tasting. I tried one of the mocktails which may have been better than an actual cocktail. I felt like it was a very laid back tasting experience, and also super intimate.
We went to Atera to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we
We went to Atera to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we left feeling very disappointed. A lot of the dishes were good, but nothing blew us away, and we both left really hungry (which is not something that ever really happens to us). The portions were not an appropriate size for the # of courses in this tasting menu. The service was good and the staff was nice, but this experience was in no way worth the money. The reason I am giving Atera a 1 star is because one of the "snacks" (the Æbleskiver with comte, truffle) severely burned my mouth and left me with large, visible welts and burns on the inside of my mouth. Even a day later, I am still in severe pain and struggling to eat because of the burns. I have been to many, many Michelin star restaurants and have never once experienced this situation before. I will definitely never be back here and wouldn't recommend it.
What a strange evening.
Saved up to test myself. The moment your through the door you are straight in and sat at the counter. No area for a pre drink or to get your bearings. With approximately a dozen dinners it's the sommelier that is the main point of contact. He was polite friendly and knowledgeable. I didn't go with the wine pairing but opted for a cocktail and asked him to suggest a few wines for the meal. With every wine comes an explanation which is totally understandable but guess what I just heard you say it to both people next to me. This means I feel for you having to say the same thing several times plus I also heard it. Then there is the glaring error of the entire experience. Who chooses the music ?? How would anyone think that Phil Collins at quite a high volume is enhancing the ambiance in any way. Essentially like an 80s early 90s quite loud play list totally threw off the vibe. The food. Lots of beautifully crafted small bites. The stand out the bite wrapped in crispy seaweed was amazing. Half way through I was craving a really solid plate to get my teeth into a lot of gels mouses and emulsified sauces , some incredible flavors but would have happily had less small bites the inclusion of one larger portion. The desserts where incredible . The servers did their best to puncture the somewhat austere atmosphere created by the decor and the somewhat clinical vibe of service. Suggestions . Sort the music out absolutely dreadful. Find ways to lighten up the experience and empower your staff to make it a warmer more personal journey.
Wonderful experience
We had a great time at Atera. Small, cosy chef's table style. Expect a Dannish/Scandinavian + Asian influence from the chef. Service was great. Wine list was fine, but not espectacular.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.
Success on Short Notice
Was able to snag an indoor table at Don Angie through an absolutely seamless worry-free process.
Worked perfectly, thank you!
This is a crazy holiday season in NYC and I was very pleasantly surprised to see that AppointmentTrader works! Will be using again!
Worked flawlessly!
Worked so well! I was a bit nervous, but everything went very smoothly. purchased the reservation, and got into the restaurant seamlessly.
Love this app!
So glad I came across this app :)
Quick table in Miami
I didn’t have my hopes high as it was a party of 4. In 24 hours I had a carbone reservation available! I was very happy as my family really wanted to come here
Prime time, great meal
So easy and had a prime time which I can never seem to get on normal res apps. So worth it
Got impossible NYC res
instead of waiting weeks I got my 4 charles reservation instantly
Worked perfectly to get into Carbone. So delighted
perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??
Tune into NBC News - Top Story Tonight 7:40p ET
Let’s go. Get more people placing bids!
I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
