Went in here with my Korean in-laws.
Restaurant was 3/4 empty but the hostess turned us away. Then she asked the waiter if he could seat us in 15 minutes, and he said right now and started to set the table. After waiting a few minutes, the hostess decided we couldn't eat there after all and sent us away.
Be the first to ReplyWe have discovered this restaurant thanks to our hotel.
At First we had some hesitations however the restaurant has proven that there is no need for such concerns. From A to Z, the food was marvelous. Especially meat, deer tenderloin and seafood soup. The service and the friendship were even more impressing. I can highly recommend.

This place is a bit weird to say the least and fugettaboutit if you are a vegetarian. While the kitchen does meet you half way, the waiters will simply point to the side dishes and tell you that's all they have. You have to actually walk into the kitchen for this. You will get something edible, but not great. Concerning their meat dishes which is basically everything on the menu, they are probably all great and delicious, although I do find it weird that they ask for temp on burgers and if you tell them anything else but well done you will get a burger that's blue in the middle. Steaks are good.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Austrian restaurant serving their own wines.
Good atmosphere, local food with a twist and very friendly waiters.

Trendy restaurant one expects to see in most major cities but more unusual in Austria. Modern setting, friendly service and food prepared in a light manner. ย A nice choice if you are seeking an alternative to traditional Austrian fare.

Whenever I come back to Vienna now,I am reliant on Austrian foodies for advice on exceptional restaurants. Following my urgent request on Facebook for recommendations for my recent impromptu trip to Vienna,Artner auf der Wieden was suggested to me by several Viennese friends. It is in walking distance of the hotel I was staying at (Hotel Das Triest, review to follow) and, even though in close vicinity of the city centre and the First District, far off the beaten track. Artner auf der Wieden serves traditional Austrian (Viennese) cuisine with a sophisticated twist in modern and stylish surroundings and cosy atmosphere. A great restaurants to introduce the food conscious tourist to Viennese cuisine. I was immediately taken by the delicious home-made bread which was served with a selection of butters (Irish butter and butter infused with rocket and garlic) as well as two different kinds of salts (Welsh sea salt and black salt). As amuse bouche we were served a shot of lovely chilled cucumber soup. A very traditional and much loved Austrian dish is Krautfleckerln' (8.80). One could roughly translate it as 'pasta squares with caramelised cabbage'which might not sound that great to you,but believe me,it is wonderful if done well. I decided to try the Artner version as a starter as I was intrigued by their take on this classic recipe. I absolutely loved what they did to this dish al dente home-made pasta squares were served with sweet cabbage perfectly complemented by the flavour of truffles. We also tried the Beef Broth (4.80),another traditional Austrian dish. The soup was flavoursome and comforting and came with a liver and vegetable souffle. The more classic soup addition for Austrian beef broth are 'Leberknoedel'(liver dumplings) or 'Fritatten'(shredded crepes),but I rather enjoyed this unusual souffle melting into the broth. One dish had to be non-Austrian and we decided on the Buffalo Mozzarella with Roasted Tomatoes. The mozzarella was ripe, creamy and salty and, just like the other dishes,an absolute pleasure to eat. There is nothing better than a good Wiener Schnitzel (13.80). Even though the original Wiener Schnitzel is made from veal, the version made with pork is seen almost more frequently. To be honest,I don't know which kind of meat I prefer for Wiener Schnitzel. I don't think it matters very much if the quality of the meat is good, the batter crisp and not greasy and it is served fresh with a lemon on the side. The Artner Wiener Schnitzel was made with pork and ticked all the boxes. It was served with potato salad which was dressed with the famous Styrian 'Kernoel'(pitch-black pumpkin seed oil). The Rib Eye Steak (27) from the charcoal grill was beautifully cooked and came with two little pipettes, one containing olive oil,the other aceto balsamico,to flavour the steak after your own taste. I loved this idea! Artner is not exactly cheap, but considering the quality of the ingredients and the spotless preparation of the food as well as the charming service and pleasant ambiance,it is a price worth paying. Part of the Artner group is not only this restaurant but also a couple of other eateries and a vineyard, which gives you a great opportunity to taste a range of Austrian wines by the glass or bottle. We tasted our way through the reds from the Artner vineyard and decided in the end that we liked the Blaufraenkisch best. I regret actually that I didn't take a few bottles.
Be the first to ReplyHad dinner here on new years day.
The service was a bit poor. Took ages to get our entree as there was a mix up and during dinner it was very lonely as the waiters did not come around and ask if everything was ok. Food is excellent but a bit too much salt for my liking. Loved my Duck, Goose Liver Terrine and the creme brรปlรฉe was fantastic with the fruit. If the service would have been better I would have scored it much higher. Would go back there again for the Duck and Creme Brรปlรฉe :-))
