Our recent visit to Angelina Paris left a sour taste in our mouths, quite unlike their supposedly delightful pastries. While the male hostess exhibited kind manners and excellent hospitality, unfortunately, his efforts were overshadowed by the glaring deficiencies in service demonstrated by his counterpart- the blonde hostess, whose lack of attention bordered on disrespect. Despite ordering macarons to share and specifically stating that we were open to a surprise selection, our request seemed to vanish into thin air. The hostess, who couldn't be bothered to remember our order despite passing by our table numerous times, made us feel like an afterthought. The medium busyness of the place hardly excuses such negligent service. One can't help but wonder if our experience was marred by how we don't look like her kind...as the hostess seemed more concerned with other patrons who perhaps fit her narrow idea of clientele. What's more, any chance of redemption was squandered when the hostess returned to our table, not to inquire about any additional orders, but without any word unceremoniously drop the check on our table as though eager to rush us out the door. Even the most modest establishments typically afford their patrons the courtesy of asking if there's anything else they'd like to order before presenting the bill. Our experience was a far cry from the warm, welcoming atmosphere one would expect from a patisserie. Adding to the insult, the pastries we tried were mediocre for NYC standards. We ordered the Opera and the signature Mont Blanc. The Opera tasted like eating kitkat and the Mont Blanc presentation looked unpalatable. Indeed it left us with a "blank" feeling. We could not understand what the hell we're eating. My friend's mocha beverage was rich and decadent and my cappuccino was good. They're macarons? We have no idea, the hostess didn't seem to want us to try them. While the other pastries may be worth trying, the service from that particular hostess leaves much to be desired. In summary, if you're looking for a patisserie experience where your orders are remembered and your presence valued, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. You're in NYC, bringing your French snobbery just doesn't fly...
