Ambleside Salutation Hotel & Spa Ambleside Reviews from The Last Year
Fabulous as usual
Very comfortable, friendly, safe and clean. Great location, plenty of parking. The spa is lovely and the bar is cosy.
Perfect mini break
We had a wonderful two night stay. Perfectly placed to enjoy Ambleside and the lakes. Free parking, free wifi, free (unlimited) use of the swimming pool, spa area and gym, relaxing lounge area, excellent customer service, lovely bedroom, Dyson fan for these warmer nights, lift, excellent breakfast, didn’t dine in but will next time. Will definitely return!
Birthday Treat
The hotel was lovely. Rooms clean, tidy, serviced daily. Good value for money. The restaurant staff both at dinner and breakfast were also friendly and helpful.
Location: great. Rooms: meh.
The location would merit 5 stars. The spa is very nice and a great way to relax after a day of long walks through the fells and meadows. The rooms were comfortable and OK but not 5-star quality - the furnishings could use freshening up - the legacy Best Western brand shows. A couple of people at the front desk were terrific (Ash in particular) but others were less so. But having Ambleside at our door was great, and we had a good stay.
Splendid
Incredible stay , recommend by friends and I’ll be recommending to everyone I know too . Staff were very pleasant and welcoming . The room was lovely with lovely features and decor . Unfortunately we didn’t have time to check out the spa . The surroundings of the hotel was beautiful. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay special. Didn’t get their names but all the staff were friendly and pleasant , couldn’t do enough for us . Would definitely be staying again when we’re next in the area . 10/10 couldn’t fault our stay .
Family getaway
We have just returned from a 2 night stay with 3 rooms so in a good position to write a review,we found the hotel very welcoming from start to finish , staff were extremely nice in every area of the hotel , our room which was a club with hot tub was lovely and overlooked town and fells , I booked a classic for my parents which was probably not suitable for older people as was on top floor and floor was slightly sloping which they didn’t like so that was a bit disappointing, but 3rd room in mews with sauna and steam was great. The breakfast was excellent and staff too we never ate in restaurant in the evening but I’m sure it would be very nice .The spa and pool was particularly nice we’ve stayed in a couple of 5 star places recently and it was way better than some of them .I would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning.
Anniversary Break
Lovely hotel, staff and facilities. Minor grumble about the breakfast service which was a little hit and miss but all resolved and breakfast delicious.
Brilliant Stay at Very Good Hotel
First visit to the Salutation. Very very pleased. Hotel is beautiful throughout. Lovely decor and fittings. We had one of the lodge rooms and we were delighted (low beams mind) Breakfast was good quality and plentiful. We ate in restaurant on one evening and enjoyed our meal. Waiting staff were very pleasant. Head waiters very attentive to regular guests, and was an area which could be improved. Spa was very good. The location is brilliant. Very central. Ambleside has numerous restaurants and bars to enjoy. There are also a wide variety of shops. There are a number of walks , for all abilities on the doorstep. The Windermere steamer is only a 15minute walk from the hotel. All in all a brilliant break at the Salutation. I very much recommend it.
enjoyable stay
nice hotel did not use restaurant for dinner due to limited choice for vegetarians but breakfast was good.Staff very good room lovely. Only downside was spa was dated and small.
Gem of a hotel in a central situation
A really comfortable hotel in a central situation for the Lake District but what really makes it stand out is the quality of service. Superb!
Best choice ever
What an absolute gem of a hotel,we have stayed at a lot of places all over England but this is far superior to all of them, everything is a pleasure for staff food is delicious and well presented. This will be the start of a very long relationship with this fabulous hotel and wonderful spa
A wonderful hotel!
My husband and I stayed at The Salutation Hotel…it was a birthday present from my sister. She had been before and thought it was ideal for us…..and she was right! From the minute we arrived, it felt very relaxing…..reception welcome was excellent. There are so many things to mention. The hotel is tastefully decorated, lots of beautiful artwork around. The bar area is spacious with lots of places to sit…dining room is wonderful. The Spa area is one of THE best we’ve ever experienced. We spent a super relaxing afternoon there. We had a standard room which was excellent. The cleanliness everywhere was at such a high standard. There is also ‘Ye Olde Vending Shoppe’ where you can purchase drinks and snacks if required. Breakfast was lovely and the surroundings of the dining area was top class. Parking facilities are excellent. The main asset this hotel has is the staff who work there…without exception, they were all so professional and friendly. We will definitely be returning in the future and would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. If you stay there you are assured of a relaxing, luxurious holiday!
First Room Blues
No problem recommending this hotel but did have to upgrade our room. Our first room was small, too warm and could not open any windows. We upgraded for additional 110 Pounds per night…room was much better but had water pressure issues. So it goes.
Excellent hotel and staff
We have stayed here quite a few times it’s always excellent. Best breakfast you can get as is the dinner. The staff are so friendly.
A Wonderful Experience!
As regular visitors, we cannot praise this hotel enough. Not only is the building lovely and the location central, the staff are just superb. Service with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. A real home from home.
Great hotel and excellent rooms
This hotel is in a great location in the centre of Ambleside . The staff are all friendly. The rooms are of a very high standard. Would always stay here when visiting Ambleside
David
Excellent hotel. Excellent staff. Excellent food. Have been visiting this hotel for 20 years and can't wait to go back.
Another excellent stay
This was our second visit and once again the whole experience was exceptional. The staff are all courteous, friendly and their customer service is fantastic. Would highly recommend a stay.
So helpful!!
The staff are so helpful from reception, bar, spa, cleaning and restaurant staff, nothing was too much trouble. They made my Mum's 80th Birthday special by treating us very well. We love it here, great cental base for Ambleside with parking. Food is lovely here too! Thank you, we will be back again.
History and comfort at the heart of Ambleside
The Salutation is an historic inn, at the heart of Ambleside, which was feted in Victorian times. It keeps its history with well equipped and comfortable bedrooms, very comfortable lounge and seating areas and a good restaurant. We stayed here for four nights. Our room was well equipped, with a comfortable bed, good Wi-Fi and a fridge with water supplied. Biscuits were provided with tea and coffee. Breakfasts were good, with decent options for cooked choices. We had dinner there one night was tasty and decent value, but in a town of excellent eateries you will want to explore. The bar and lounge area has plenty of sofas and armchairs. Staff are very friendly. The hotel invites a tip on your credit card when you check out. Nearby it is worth booking Fysty for a special dinner or lunch, and Luigi’s is a great Italian. Overall, a great place to stay as a Lake District base, and buses stop right outside heading towards Bowness.
33rd Visit and Counting
Another very enjoyable stay at The Salutation. Always possible to park my car and a pre-dinner pint in the lovely bar/lounge area is a must.
Perfect stay
Our stay was perfect. We took our dog with us, and the hotel could not be anymore welcoming. The room we had was fabulous, and all the staff were exceptionally friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Definitely stay again.
A wonderful stay
We stayed for two nights. Staff were wonderful and extremely friendly. Our room was excellent and having a hot tub was the icing on the cake. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. The restaurant and bar were very quiet and somewhat lacking in atmosphere but the service was very good. We would highly recommend this hotel, a super venue with Ambleside on your doorstep - what more do you need!
Awesome hotel
Great central location! Great hotel! Great staff! Great public areas! Great restaurant! Great bar! Get a room at front, which is ideal for people watching! The spa is good, I believe, but we didn't use it this time around as there was too much to do outside.
Perfect for a honeymoon
We have just left The Salutation on Cloud 9, we did not want to leave at all. We came to The Lakes for 3 days honeymoon, straight after our wedding in Manchester and booked The Salutation last year based on it ticking all the boxes we needed - in summary, somewhere picturesque, quiet and peaceful, personable, not full of kids (we left ours at home!) with spa facilities both in the room and within the hotel. I cannot adequately put into words how blown away we were on all these aspects. We chose the Rossett Ghyll room with outdoor hot tub, sauna and steam room in the room & it couldn't have been more perfect - I spent so long in that hot tub with numerous bottles of champagne, that I think I'll be wrinkled for weeks. My husband really loved the sauna and steam room too. The bed is ginormous, really comfy and we had 3 great nights sleep - couldn't hear a single thing from either outside or the hotel. The bathroom is modern, the room tastefully decorated and with tons of space. Just a perfect base to our long weekend spent chilling, eating, drinking and walking. We also used the spa, which was deserted and felt super exclusive. The gym, although we didn't use it, is the most comprensive we've ever seen in a hotel. The pool, jacuzzi and outdoor pool are modern, clean and so relaxing. If we hadn't had these facilities in our room, we would've spent a lot more time down in the spa. We had 2 treatments too which were AMAZING. I've never received such personalised, warm and friendly treatment as we did from our 2 lovely therapists, Hannah and Sally-Ann - they both provided subtle little touches that really made the experience luxurious. We really enjoyed the breakfasts each morning - such a comprehensive choice of cold and hot food, you're really spoiled for choice and everything is fresh, tasty and plentiful. The dining room at breakfast time is a nice calm setting, laid out in a way that provides a nice atmosphere. The restaurant staff are beyond lovely, always working so hard, always greeting you with a smile and genuine interest about what you've been up to. Special shout out to Steve who is brilliant, friendly and full of character (thank you again so much for our complementary proseccos!) and Geoff who is likewise - also a shout out to the sweet waitress from Columbia and the other ladies who were all brilliant. The bar area is a beautiful place to relax, we wish we'd had more time to spend there because it was really cosy and calm. Last shout goes to the reception staff - what a team! So helpful, friendly, always smiling, and like the rest of the staff (especially in the restaurant), they never seem to go home! Unreal hardworking people! We absolutely loved Sofia who is so charming and took the time to help us practice our Spanish. And Pawel who was a constant smiling face and who saw us off with the warmest of wishes. My only (constructive) criticism of our stay was the restaurant in the evening. There is just no atmosphere at all, magnified by the lack of guests choosing to dine, which is at contrast to breakfast time, but evening time seemed like it needed a bit more liveleyness injecting into it. There was background music so quiet that it was completely pointless. This meant that ours and the few other patrons conversations were clearly and very awkwardly audible to everyone else - we ended up spending the evening whispering so quietly that we couldn't hear each other. The food didn't make up for the lack of atmosphere either unfortunately, it was quite basic, again a contrast to the lovely breakfast. Overall though, what an incredible honeymoon we had here, thank you to everyone at The Salutation for giving us the best experience we could've dreamed of, and for giving us lifelong memories we'll never forget. We'll be back soon (hopefully to Rossett Ghyll!)
Wonderful Stay
We stayed here for three nights in January and had a wonderful experience. Upon first impressions the exterior looks a bit dated, however, don’t let that put you off as the interior is fabulous. Clearly recently renovated and very well maintained, the lounges and communal areas were beautifully decorated, clean, quiet and spacious. The staff we came into contact with were all friendly and we had good service in the bar and in the restaurant. A special mention goes to the Spanish gentleman (apologies we didn’t get his name) whose exuberant manner gave rise to a positive and welcoming feel. The location is spot-on, and I think you’d be hard pushed to get better. Right in the centre of the village, restaurants and bars on your doorstep. One thing worth mentioning is that many of these were closed due to the time of the year, but, we still found plenty of options. Access to walking routes right outside the hotel meant that we parked up and didn’t need to use the car for the full three days. Lastly, the spa. Wow - this was such a gem that we didn’t really expect to find. We were lucky to have the outside jacuzzi to ourselves one afternoon and it was utter bliss. One of the nicest hotel spas we’ve experienced. Thanks for a fab stay, we’ll be back!
Best hotel in Ambleside
This is our 4th time staying here and it was faultless again. We stayed in ‘Rothay’ again which is a lovely size, and has a hot tub on the balcony overlooking the town. Reception staff friendly as always and the breakfast was excellent. Pool/ spa area great. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else
Great hotel, highly recommend
We have just returned from a fabulous trip to celebrate our son’s 21st birthday. We highly recommend the hotel on so many levels. All of the staff are wonderful from reception to the restaurant and bar. Breakfast was lovely, we were absolutely spoilt for choice. The hotel is very clean and well maintained. The spa is excellent and I’ve come home feeling very refreshed. The location is great too. We were a stones throw from some excellent restaurants and pubs. I’m fairly sure we’ll be back again very soon :)
Lovely hotel, fantastic spa, highly recommended!
My partner and I stayed here for just the one night in April during the Easter break. We absolutely loved it and highly recommend it! We stayed in ‘Loft one’ which is a luxury double room and includes a huge jacuzzi bath, sauna and steam room. The room was spacious, all the amenities you could wish for and very clean. From the moment we arrived the staff were super friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome and relaxed. We also used the spa after breakfast and the spa facilities are top notch too. Located in the centre of Ambleside the hotel is 10/10. We’ve stayed at a lot of hotels across the UK but this is up there as one of our favourites. We will be back!
2 night stay
Excellent breakfast. Great central location.the swimming pool and outside jacuzzi was nice beware of the overhead jets jeez there powerful! Really nice Thai restaurant not far from the hotel and some great little pubs not far too. The walk to the waterfall behind the hotel was nice too

Lovely hotel. Great position with parking and close to local amenities. We had a loft suite which had a sauna, steam room and jacuzzi bath in room! Breakfast was lovely nice choice of continental buffet and cooked breakfast.dinner again nice but not a huge choice on menu. Would stay again.

Fab hotel . The location couldn’t be any better - parking great so we could just leave the car and explore by foot! Breakfast choice and quality was great. The spa was clean and well appointed. The hot tub outside next to the waterfall was amazing
Wedding Anniversay

Our 35th wedding anniversary
Fab stay, the staff were brilliant, the position is excellent in the middle of Ambleside. My wife has over 20 allergies and the communication before the visit and during were excellent. The spa is excellent. What can I say. Highly recommended
Relaxing few days away
First stay here and we will definitely return. Comfy bed, good shower , room clean and very spacious. Breakfast excellent Staff wonderful! Spa area really lovely Walks right on the doorstep ( Rydal water to Grasmere)and the bus stops right outside for later when you are too tired to walk back!
Great place to stay.
This is a fabulous hotel which we have stayed at for several years. Many of the staff have been there for some years, which speaks volumes. Rooms are spacious and the en suites are excellent. The large lounge is very cosy and relaxing. The restaurant is also large and the breakfasts are excellent.
Relaxing stay
So here’s an honest review. Everything here is Wonderful. Can’t pick out a single staff member as they were all great. This must be a good place to work as all the staff from cleaners to management looked happy. The room was comfortable clean and cosy bed. The breakfasts were amazing and we also had the evening meal a few days too. The menu was changed daily and there was always plenty of choice with good sized portions too. The pool was a good size, the spa was somewhere we spent a couple of hours in daily. The gym equipment is good quality and covers what a gym goer would need. We used the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and outside jet pool were fab. We have already booked to come back!
High expectations not disappointed.
As usual, faultless. Lovely to see long-standing staff members and no change over many years in outstanding professionalism, efficiency and helpfulness. Special mention of the young man on reception who had to deal with difficulties with the pool locker and confusion about the rewards scheme with patience and good humour. Breakfasts are very good and vegetarians need not worry that they will be shortchanged in their plant based offering. We look forward to returning.
Great stay
Stayed in room 404 which was very clean and spacious. Hotel is directly in the centre of Ambleside and offers a range of treatments in the spa. Breakfast was great and offered a cold buffet and hot food to order. Spa was a great addition especially after the hiking. Would stay again

Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.

When it says working on bid, it means there are people looking to fill it.
