Phenomenal meal & service, highly recommend, we will definitely be going back! The view is incredible, we thought the food might not be as incredible because they are in such a great location. Thought they might just get away with 'decent' food but it was truly incredible. LOVE!

My partner and I went here to celebrate our six year anniversary, and the ambiance of the restaurant and creativity of the food was very stellar! We had reservations for 7:15, but were sat closer to 7:40, although they did have a bar where you could have a drink and wait for a table to open up. After being sat, we were given complimentary cheddar-ranch popcorn for a fun amuse-bouche, as well as an aperitif of a strawberry-balsamic dressing with goat cheese (my description is not doing it justice, but it was very interesting and quite different!). Now, to preface this, the restaurant was incredibly busy. We ordered a charcuterie board as an appetizer, although that never arrived. We brought this up to our waitress, and they offered to package one up for us to go, and that it would be complimentary! It would have been nice to eat it fresh, especially considering that the wait between our bread/popcorn was about 30-35 minutes, but nevertheless, we'll enjoy it the next day. For our entrées, my partner ordered the roasted duck breast, which was phenomenal! It looked too pretty to eat, but it was so tender and juicy. I ordered a filet mignon with a Hokkaido scallop, and i was a bit disappointed. The sides were delicious, but my steak was overcooked to be medium well instead of medium rare. When a gentleman came over asked about our meals, I mentioned it to him, and he offered us free dessert. While I'm not super picky about the food I receive, it was a bit unfortunate considering the price--it's definitely a splurge and want to it be tasty! Regardless, I was very pleased with the taste of everything overall. Our waitstaff was very kind and attentive, and they made sure to advocate for us as it was a special night for us and the kitchen was a bit backed up--but it happens! For dessert, I ordered the Spring Fling and my partner got the Take 5-both of which were incredible! They also brought out tiny mousse cups for us and gave us a take-home brownie bite. Overall we had a very nice time and really romantic experience! We'll definitely come back for another special night!

Just popped in fir nightcap after riding up incline to enjoy the city view. All glass surround on two levels of restsurant made gor wonderful views of city. Upper level was a bit more quiet as bar area on first floor makes for a more lively setting. Cannot comment on food although looking and smelled very enticing.
I have such mixed feelings about this place.
I have been to many great restaurants in Pittsburgh and other cities and based on the reviews thought this would be a new favorite. I wanted to love it so badly, but I just didn't. For one - don't even bother trying to get a window table. I honestly believe that if you ask they purposefully ignore you. To not even have the option to wait for a window table is so ridiculous to me. Naturally, we were sat in the middle of the restaurant unable to see any views - we saw a lot of other things though.. more to come on that. Let's start with the good. The drinks were fabulous, we loved our espresso martinis and chartreuse-infused drinks. I also loved this spicy bourbon drink they had. The crab toast appetizer was delicious, I highly recommend it. I also really liked the steak tartare. The complimentary popcorn was a nice touch for an amuse-bouche, and we also were given these strawberry goat cheese "ice cream" cone bites (they were just okay). Our service was okay, truthfully the server felt a little fake but I am being really critical there. Now to the bad - the garlic and ramp bisque sounded so good and many of us were excited to try it (the server also recommended it) but it was terrible. Way too salty and the mushrooms were so chewy and a very odd texture. I was very disappointed by this. The salads were just okay. I missed that the Ceasar had zattar spice (that was my bad for missing that detail on the menu). It was okay but not the best I have had. Others at the table felt their salads were just okay as well. Overall our entrees weren't bad. the sea bass was good, and my sister who ordered the chicken really liked it. My steak had potential but the sauce served over it was so overpowering and one note. I was overall disappointed. Also the chef clearly has a thing for fennel... half the menu seemed to have fennel in it. Some of our party does not like fennel so that made it tough. I would be interested in coming back during another season to see how the menu is then. Lastly, the views of the city (if you could even see them) were nice but we couldn't really see them at all where we were sat. What really struck our table was the other clientele. I normally would never comment on this and never have before but it was so striking I feel like I have to. I read some other reviews talking about some folks being denied service due to their attire. Well there were some people, women in particular, who were dressed so provocatively I am shocked that they were considered appropriate when others were not. Again, I have never even noticed what others wore in a restaurant before but it was that severe. It honestly made some of us a little uncomfortable because we felt out of place and were trying to understand who the target audience was for this restaurant. I am all for people wearing what they want and being confident but this was way beyond that on a Friday night at dinner. I would try this restaurant again but it is unfortunately not high on my list anymore.
Altius never fails to disappoint.
The restaurant location overlooking the city creates incredible table views, each staff member is kind and helpful, and the interior is beautiful. Moreover, the food quality and creativity is spectacular. Before I discuss the food, I wanted to say that during my 1st visit to Altius, I expected the restaurant to be a tourist trap due to it's location above the Duquesne Incline, but I was completely wrong. A visit here is worth every penny. For my most recent visit, I ordered the Chilean Seabass. The crust on the fish was some of the best I ever had, and the risotto paired with it was perfectly creamy. The experience was made even better by the complimentary dill flavored popcorn, which was addictive, and the fresh bread with sundried tomatoes and ramp pesto butter. Each item was a 5/5.

This restaurant is one of our favorite special occasion restaurants!! The presentations are artistic as much as they are delicious!! A bit pricey but a nice splurge!!

Very cool ambiance! We expected small plates and to leave hungry. We were served so many different foods from popcorn, brownie bites( definitely leftover), polenta bites, along with our lamb meatballs as an appetizer, citrus risotto (by far the best savory bite), entrees, and the delicious orange creamsicle dessert. Definitely a cool place with exciting and fresh flavors! We were pleasantly surprised!

The food is elevated, beautifully presented and delicious. Thank you for a wonderful experience. I wish I could remember our servers name because he was the best.
This is the most disrespectful experience I ever received.
The waiters are doing their jobs professionally. However, the restaurant assistant manager Rob Zgonc displayed racism toward my friend. When my friend went complain about his poor attitude, his attitude was even worse, and threatened my friend that he would call the security to have all of us leave the restaurant. Here is a quote from the manager, "You are not my customer." I want to ask this restaurant then, "who is your customer?" Also, we did go to the restaurant and finished at 7.16pm (evidence by the check photo), but received a cancellation email at 7.49pm so that I am prevented from writing a negative comment on OpenTable.
