A fantastic evening - food oh so rich, and oh so good
Ada's made our anniversary the perfect evening. First of all: a view of the river that can't be beat. Second, the food was fantastic. It's rich, it's fattening, but it's damn tasty. A kale salad never tasted so good; the most "different" mushroom lasagna I ever had; a nearly $50 crab cake that Husband said was delish (maybe even *too large*); side of grilled asparagus with white-chocolate bearnaise sauce...And those apple beignets - better than anything I ever had in New Orleans. But above all, the service was outstanding. A team of three treated us well, and we had a great evening!
Ada's is Awesome!
My daughter and I had dinner at Ada's on The River to celebrate her birthday. It was a first-time visit for both of us, and both the food and the service were EXCELLENT! We enjoyed a superb meal that was delicious from start - cocktails and appetizer - to finish - fabulous chocolate soufflé. Neither of us eats meat, so we opted for the mini black brioche loaf, the spiced coal roasted cauliflower, which the kitchen kindly split for us, and multiple sides. Honestly, everything was SO good! All our food was cooked to perfection, extremely flavorful, and generously plated. We could not have asked for better food, and my daughter had plenty to take home to enjoy the next day. Our server, Devyn, was personable, efficient, and gave outstanding recommendations which we requested! The restaurant has a lovely setting, which is a definite plus, but the drinks and the food are the stars of the show! HIGHLY recommend!
Great Food, Amazing Desserts
We decided to come here on the recommendation of a local and we were not disappointed. We absolutely loved our experience at Ada's on the River in Old Town Alexandria! The food and drinks were great but the absolute highlight for us were their desserts. We had the souffle and the lemon tart and on those alone we plan on coming here again next time we are in town.
A great meal but a major glitch in not telling us the exorbitant price of a special entree.
Everything we ate at Ada's was absolutely delicious, including the pre-dinner drink called "The Difference Engine," the special app of tuna tartare and the Maine lobster tail. We will definitely return but we had one major issue that should be addressed by the restaurant. When our server described the specials that evening, she did not mention the price of any of them. One of the people at our table ordered the seafood trio special. What we did not know until we got the check was that the special cost $120!!!! That was triple the price of most entrees on the menu. It was almost criminal for our server not to have mentioned that fact, which shocked all of us when we got the check. Ada's....please tell your servers to mention the prices of specials, especially when they are considerably higher than most other entrees.
New Favorite Old Town Brunch Spot
Last month I did a staycation and finally made it to Ada's. What a find. Have been back twice for brunch and it's become a new favorite in Old Town. The outdoor seating on the river is serene and soothing, with plenty of shade from umbrellas and greenery. Service is impeccable and really stands out for Old Town. My first visit I had excellent service from Shaun, a delicious crab cake sandwich, and a refreshing cucumber-based vodka martini. Second visit, equally impeccable service from Lindsay, a traditional "Ada's Brunch" featuring scrambled eggs, bacon, and ranch toast, and a tequila raspberry drink ("Life on the Water") that was amazing. Service, food and beverage, and riverfront location, are all five star. About the only con I can come up with, is that parking and walking to the riverfront location may be challenging for anyone who has trouble walking distances. It definitely helps that I have a district 1 parking permit and may occasionally get lucky on neighborhood parking. It is still a longish walk, however. Very short walk when staying at the Hotel Indigo though. Higher side pricing overall, but not out of line for a finer dining venue. There's value in some brunch and lunch selections and the specialty beverages are in family with other Old Town venues. The pricing is well worth it to me though, for the service, extensive menu selections, and the lovely outdoor seating atmosphere. Will be hard pressed to not try to come back every weekend. Ada's has definitely spoiled me for the regular Old Town venues I frequent. This is a spot all visitors to Old Town should not miss.
A friend and I dined here at her suggestion because her first visit was so good. She was right. Not only is the food delicious (they don't even have freezers at the restaurant, everything is fresh) but the service is impeccable (even the staff in training). I am not exaggerating here. We didn't dine outside as it had been raining and the tables were wet but there's nice ambiance inside also. The octopus appetizer was hearty and flavorful - which is saying a lot because I usually think octopus is like chewing on rubber bands (!). The seafood platter is not inexpensive but the spread was top notch (huge prawns, scallops and a lovely crab cake). The lobster mac-n-cheese melted in your mouth and was not skimpy on the lobster. The apple caramel beignet dessert plate was wiped clean. The lemon tart was good also. We were actually in DC for a conference and planned to take the ride to Alexandria to avoid crowds and have a nice dinner. Neither of us was disappointed, and you won't be either. Bon appetit indeed!
Never as good as I hope it will be
Service was good. Food was mediocre. Octopus covered in heavy sauce and not as charred as would like. Steak quality just ok and again not charred like I would hope from a wood fired. Ordered medium rare and it was a solid medium plus. Creamed spinach good but a little too saucy. Pave ok as well but again why all the sauce on top and bottom. Just give us food that tastes good and perfectly executed with sauce on side. Prob only thing I would order in future is the burger which despite being laden with tons of extra stuff is delicious.
Made our special occasion so special
This was a super choice for our special occasion. We had a lovely water view booth. If they were seating on the patio, might not have been such a great view of the water but it was great for a chilly night inside. Roberto was our server and made the occasion so enjoyable. He was so friendly, helpful with suggestions and prompt. The coal fired mushroom lasagna was exceptional and hubs enjoyed his grilled shrimp and avocado salad. We were even treated to a lemon tart to honor our occasion which was so refreshing. The restaurant is so nicely appointed with color and comfortable seating. Would love to go back next trip.

I went to a restaurant on the water nearby. The experience was horrible so we decided to leave and come to ADAS. They were able to accommodate our party of 14. The table took us a little longer so the assistant general manager Carlos came out to greet my party apologize and offer us drinks. Once we were seated our servers, Brenda and Slyvia took the best care of us. They were knowledgeable of the menu, kind and understanding to me and my entire family. Thank you so much for making my boyfriend’s birthday the best birthday ever. The food was excellent. The service was excellent. Everything was perfect. Your forever customer, Ronnie .
Good food but terrible service
Good food but terrible service. We were four adults and a baby that made no noise whatsoever but was evidently not welcome by the hostesses. First they put us on waiting list even though there were at least 5 tables available in the main dining room. After a 35 minute wait they seated us in an adjacent private room which was and remained empty thru our entire stay. We enjoyed the food but definitely not the discriminating treatment by the staff.

Step-by-Step Process
1.) Setting a Reward (Bid)
* AppointmentTrader uses historical data to recommend a reasonable reward amount for securing a reservation - let's say $100.
* Peter really wants to go, so he increases the bid (or reward) to $200.
* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
* ElaborateHouse74, an experienced AT user, has a strong track record of successfully securing reservations and low refund requests, they receive a notification about Peter's bid.
* ElaborateHouse74 picks up the bid, meaning they will now work on securing the reservation.
* Peter can now talk to ElaborateHouse74 for any questions Peter may have as ElaborateHouse74 user fills the bid.
3.) Finding the Reservation
* ElaborateHouse74 now uses their connections at Ada's on the River Alexandria to secure the table.
* If they successfully get the 6 PM table for four, Peter receives a confirmation that the reservation has been secured.
* If ElaborateHouse74 fails to secure the reservation, the bid is returned to the pool so another user can try.
4.) Payment & Protection
* Once the reservation is secured, ElaborateHouse74 receives the $200 reward which is credited to ElaborateHouse74's AT balance, where users manage their own funds and can withdraw via available payout options such as bank transfer, PayPal, or Zelle.
* Peter can now enjoy the dinner with his friends at Ada's on the River Alexandria!
* As with all transactions on AT, disputes and no-show fees are handled through the platform's community-driven resolution system. Users with a strong track record are incentivized to fulfill bids successfully, and community members can report issues to maintain trust in the marketplace.
