Great food and cocktails!
Excellent service & amazing food and cocktails. We sat at the bar to eat and we were not disappointed. Very lively atmosphere with a live DJ. They do add 20% for tip automatically regardless of the party size.
Be the first to ReplyBeware. 20% tip is automatically added to your bill
My wife and I went there for a romantic dinner. Food was very good but they did not manage to get both main dishes out at the same time. So my wife started eating after I was finished with my meal. But what really got me was the 'forced tip' ... 20% are automatically added to the bill. Other than for 6+ parties I have never seen this at any other restaurant. The amount I want to tip should be up to me!

The NYT states that this is one of the best 50 restaurants in the US. It did not disappoint. The bass with the mousseine was outstanding, as was the smokey fried rice.
Be the first to ReplyFilipino food close to the Wharf
Filipino Yakitori in San Francisco! So so sooo happy to find a packed Filipino restaurant very close to the Wharf. It really brought back sweet memories of our childhood Pinoy street food! We ordered the following: Ube-Colada $16 Lemon Drop Martini $16 Sakada Rum + Cointreau $16 Snap Pea Salad $16 “gising-gising” Longganisa Sausage Stick $10 Beef Lengua Skewer $8 Chicken Inasal Stick $10 ISAW! $9 Sisig Fried Rice $17 (the best!) Java Rice $8 Abaca on Jones St (in the Alton Hotel) is on The NY Times 50 Favorite Restaurants of 2022 list. I enjoyed every bite of their chicken inasal with the scrumptious crackling sisig rice! I mean, we were floored when we found Isaw and Balunbalunan (gizzards) in their secret menu. On our next visit, we will definitely try the brunch menu. Hello ensaymada with truffle pecorino! Be sure to make reservations - I made mine on Resy! Thank you Spencer for the fun drinks at the bar. Service was friendly and surprisingly quick on a busy Saturday night. 20% tip automatically added to check. Pix & vids on IG: @i_therefore_conclude
Be the first to ReplyWorth the wait
I just had the best overnight oats of my life. The texture and portion size were perfect, the sweetness was delicate and refreshing, I could basically bathe in these oats. I left off a star for the wait. I do wish that they had a take away counter, as it can be frustrating if you're just waiting for a pastry and a coffee to go, and you're stuck in the same wait line as if you were getting table service. The staff were super polite and lovely about it, but when you're in a hurry you're in a hurry. Luckily, I wasn't and the food was absolutely delicious. RE: the compulsory tip others have mentioned below -- I'm pretty sure that's an SF thing. I've been here for a week and have seen that at every restaurant we've been at, so it's not an Abaca-specific behavior. Just the cost of visiting SF (shrug).
Be the first to ReplyBrace for the 20% compulsory tip
We were staying at the hotel so we went to its restaurant for breakfast. Food was good and service was okay. Then the bill came with a 20% compulsory tip and space to put more. No advance announcement was made for this charge and we were 2, not a big group. Needless to say we didn’t return after feeling cheated.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful. Great bar.
We only drank at the bar. Mo and Ken were absolute delights. Drinks were amazing. We’ll crafted, well balanced and fairly priced. Desert was superb. Get the cheese ice cream thing. You won’t regret it.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing, different flavors - we loved it!
Small plates served family style. The Filipino dishes and flavors were surprising and very tasty. My very picky 30-something gourmet son liked all 6 of the dishes he tried. We particularly recommend the chicken inasal BBQ sticks (the pork atchara was good too), sisig fried rice, lumpia, and pork steamed bun. I would avoid the octopus though - we usually like it, but the flavor or this version was off. That would make me wary of the fish dishes too. Service was solicitous and very fast (almost too fast). The live DJ music was great (wonderful beat) but too loud; I think that was a special event for Juneteenth/Father's Day weekend though.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food but needs better lighting as it darkens
Went to Abaca with a larger group the 2nd time. The food and flavors are great, however, as it got darker, the place seemed to take a more dismal atmosphere. Why no lights in the shared, communal tables in the center? Did they not pay the electric bill? Why were the skimping on the light? I made a suggestion to the maitre'd but she came up with something about "minimalist." That's nuts. A little lighting, some flowers, would never hurt a place. How do you get to read the menu and how do you see your food? That is my main criticism of this place -- the tables could use some prettifying up and maybe bring out some nice candles as it gets dark.

So, do you trust your eyes or do you trust reviews? If you went by tripadvisor reviews, you’d avoid this place.
However, we chose to trust our eyes. We checked in to the Kimpton Alton, and noticed that Abaca restaurant was FULL. We were exhausted after our 14 hr flight, and decided to grab a quick bite before crashing.
The food was amazing! So much so, that we managed to squeeze one more dinner there before we left. Food was fabulous, cocktails were inventive and tasty. 100% would come back.
Try Abaca!
We had a great experience at Abaca. Although crowded, the host was able to seat us within a few minutes. This was nice because a reservation is usually needed on a Saturday. The service was great and the food was even better! Every dish we ordered was tasty and more of a fusion style. Everything was presented in a unique way with different flavors. We had the crab tamale, Java rice, butternut squash dumplings, chicken inasal, and the pork steam bun. Every single dish was delicious. My friend particularly loved the tamale. We were very pleased with the meal.
Be the first to ReplyGreat breakfast
Late morning breakfast was great. We had a delicious and tasty meal. Although understaffed, our server tried her best to keep up with the orders and flow of diners.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
While the food was overpriced but tasty the staff is terrible. They are rude and condescending .
The food was good but overpriced for the portions
Best Filipino Cuisine I've Ever Tried
The dining experience at Abacá was fabulous. By far the best Filipino cuisine I've tried. But then again, there really isn't anything else quite like Chef Francis Ang's new restaurant. If you're ever in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf area, you must try this hot new dining establishment! Abacá is located inside the luxury boutique Kimpton Altlon Hotel.
Be the first to ReplyCrappy breakfast
Stayed at the Kimpton Alton and had breakfast at Abaca in the lobby with my family. My wife and I ordered the California breakfast which had eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns. The hash browns, bacon and toast were burnt. I asked for the hash browns and bacon to be re-made. They both were both undercooked and inedible. My son ordered the pancake stack with coconut caramel which was great. I talked to the hotel front desk and they couldn’t tell me who the manager of the restaurant was. They said it was contracted space and not affiliated with the hotel. I understand that it is hard to find people these days, but I have never had this bad of a breakfast at a major hotel. Thankfully they took it off the bill
