12 Chairs Cafe New York Reviews from The Last Year

Order: - Falafel & Tahini (4/5) - Pancakes w/Fresh Fruits (4/5) - Arayes (5/5) - Sweet Potato Fries (5/5) - Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice (3/5) Pros: - Great tasting food with Middle Eastern options and classic brunch options - Large menu - Able to get a seat without reservation Cons: - Very busy with tight seating both inside and outside - Food can take a while to come out - My "freshly squeezed orange juice" tasted very much from a carton and was very warm - Hard to get servers attention - Pricey Overall: Great tasting food but overpriced and service wasn't the best
Let me preface this by saying that I truly do love this
Let me preface this by saying that I truly do love this restaurant. I've been here many times and also the Soho location as well. I went last night for my husbands birthday and to say that I was thoroughly disappointed in the service was an understatement. I ordered the Arayes, which are my favorite, and he ordered the lamb burger medium rare. We get our food - his burger is cooked probably more medium to medium well (not complaining on the temperature on his, it tasted perfect tbh) and mine was severely undercooked. I took a bite and something felt off, and I compared the meats between mine and his as mine was incredibly bright pink and my husbands was totally opposite of mine. Anyway, the waiter came over and I told him that I think my dish was undercooked and he takes it back to the kitchen. He comes out a few minutes later and tells me "that's how it's supposed to be and the reason why the color of the meats is different is because of the spices they put in the burger." So.. I'm like okay fine I guess I'll buy it even the texture of the meats are different... Then I cut open another one and the dough is still pulling from the meat as in the dough of the pita for the Arayes was not cooked through and it was raw dough. So I call him over again and I said "I know I'm not going crazy here, I've ordered this a million times - this dish is undercooked" and his response "Well, we can overcook it for you" .. it was such a rude obnoxious response that it left such a nasty taste in my mouth. How hard is it to say "let me get you a new one or we can fix this" and just do it without making your customer feel like an idiot?? I sent it back, ordered something that I knew I wouldn't have an issue with. Finish the dinner, I asked for a box to go. We were going to order dessert but couldn't because the waiter didn't even ask if we wanted anything else, he just put the check on the table. WTF with this rudeness?? Word to management/owner: perhaps you should have a customer service training session with your waitstaff.

I used to work right by the SoHo location and previously I didn't care for this place much and hardly ever went. But now I frequent their Brooklyn location quite a bit, because I love their labneh here. It's so good and paired with that warm pita is heaven. I could eat entire tub of the labneh. The place is a bit crammed and can get a bit crazy, so that's something to consider, but I still come to get my fix. I get the following: Freshly squeezed oj - can't go wrong with this. ARAYES Grilled pita filled with minced lamb, served with a spicy cherry tomato salad and tahini - I get this, but I only eat the filling, because I don't care for the pita, since it is hard as hell. I don't get why they can't have it be softer. If they changed that aspect, I would be able to eat the entire thing. SMOKED SALMON SCRAMBLED Soft-scrambled eggs over toasted challah bread, served with smoked salmon and capers - I recently ordered this and I was specific about the salmon not arriving on the same plate because it reminds me a really bad brunch I had in UES, where the hot food "cooked" the smoke salmon and changed the taste and texture. This is why I never ordered the dish here, but it was good.

WOW! Authentic, delicious, friendly, good service, and amazing flavors! In town visiting family, first time at this place and had to recommend. Flavor Bomb!!!
Lots of hype for bad service and meh food.
The schnitzel was dry and that was the best thing we ordered.
delicious food, great service, cute atmosphere.
12 chairs has it all. i tried the pita sabich and it was an incredible blend of flavors. ive never had anything like it before. so delicious!! and everything is reasonably priced for the amount you get.
To start: the food is absolutely delicious.
The chicken is juicy and cooked perfectly in the grilled chicken sandwich and pita schnitzel. The Israeli salad compliments the dishes very well and is light and refreshing. I highly recommend the meat hummus in comparison to regular plain hummus because the flavors of the meat and mushrooms are to die for. The downside of this place is it seems to be very disorganized and slow with seating/taking orders/getting the check and overall service. Waitress wasn't very attentive and had conversations with friends for a while before taking orders or providing water but I guess that's just the relaxed vibe of this place. I'd for sure come back for the food though (just probably at a random non-busy hour).
If you love sabich, you know how impossible it is to find.
12 Chairs sabich sandwich just elevates it to a whole other level--the perfect combination of flavors and textures: light, crispy eggplant; crunchy vegetables; creamy, tangy dressing; soft but not too doughy pita. Just savor it.
Did not love this place.
Probably would not return. We were sat down 15 mins after saying our table is almost ready. Not a big deal, but it looked like they gave our table to a different party. They charged us twice for a side of egg, and we only found out because we asked for a receipt. Still very kind, i'm sure they would have removed the charge had we asked. The atmosphere was very hot outside & a little unkempt. There were flies everywhere, and we had to ask them to turn the fan on. The food was mediocre. It was just standard middle eastern food. My favorite was the labaneh, but i've had a lot better before. The malabi isn't bad, but I don't recommend if you're not into jelly like textures.
Best middle eastern restaurant in the city !! Especially

If you want a classic new york city bustling (but cramped) exciting dinner, this is place. It's such a vibe to grab and share plates with friends, have a few drinks, and hang out before going out. I went with one of my friends and we ordered a few things to share. We got the hummus plates, a couscous dish, and the schnitzel. It was all pretty good. The service was relatively good. Given the space is cramped, it's hard for people to go back and forth but besides that it was lovey and the staff was nice.

If u can't make it to Tel Aviv this is the closest you'll get! Lots of Israeli love by diners. It's packed. Dance on tables with tambourines! Eat the best eggplant, Lamb and Israeli Hummus. No haters here! Enjoy

the food tasted great!! my favorite part of the meal was definitely the hummus and the pita bread! the pita bread is so delicious. they gave us refills of the pita bread too!! the service was good! we sat outside and we were not forgotten about. the servers were fun and energetic. the vibe was nice too! i would definitely recommend this place
Everything was delicious.
Aside from what's pictured (hummus, falafel, tabouli, beets, labne) we got the schnitzel salad and Malabi. Jachnun was already sold out. Service seemed but short handed but staff was really nice all around. Labne was absolutely perfect if I could have it every day I would. 10/10

Great Israeli brunch spot.
Food was yummy and the wait staff was friendly. Would come again.

Tons of hype around 12 chairs and was excited to go on a saturday night to catch up with friends but honestly one of the worse experiences I've had recently. Food: Food was nothing to write home about. A bit overpriced, even for NY, and not nearly at the level i was expecting after hearing every person recommend this restaurant. We ordered both babaganoush (comes w pita) and hummus (comes with pita) and were given 3 pitas total??? For four people? A) not nearly enough pita for the amount of dip and B) i feel like since both items came with pita it should have been more than 3 pieces total? My friends were obsessed with the hummus, the falafel could have been better and cocktails were fantastic, probably the best part of the whole meal. Service: Service was overly attentive and we felt rushed and unwanted. There is no entryway so we squeezed in while we waited to talk to the host. This resulted in standing behind a door and having a server literally shove the door open onto us. Was then asked in a condescending tone if we had a reservation. We did (7:30) and were 10 mins early. They weren't ready for our res and had to combine two tables to make a four-top for us. They also told us in the most pretentious way that our res was ONLY 90 minutes and we had to clear by 9pm (btw, at 9pm there were three other large tables open so were rushed out for nothing). They asked our drink orders within 35 seconds of sitting down, said we needed a minute and then were given about 35 more seconds before being asked again. When the remainder of our group arrived we were again asked every minute if we were ready to order. Every time we said we weren't ready they gave us such an annoyed look (btw we put our full order in within 15 minutes of sitting). When clearing our food (which they also asked several times if they could do), they accidentally hit me in the face (and my glasses) with silverware! Ambiance: Good music (Israeli music) but far too loud to hold a conversation. I lost my voice trying to talk to my friends. Small restaurant but tables are much too crowded (even for NY, especially for Williamsburg). Chairs have rounded backs so nowhere to hang your bag/scarf/earmuffs and tables are too tiny to set anything on the table.

The food is good but I ordered a side of tuna to go and this is what I got. Like.. wtf. It's literally straight out of a can and they charged me for it. (They make a tuna salad, which is what I ordered.)
Food is good but the music is SO loud.
The bass makes your table rattle. Wont be coming back

If you haven't tried mediterranean food before i would totally recommend you to come and try it for the first time at this place, it's a joy in williamsburg i been there like 4 times before, try the hummus with the pita and the olives! Also our server was super nice to us and they make the best hugo spritz i had ever try in brooklyn. Thank you so much!
