Original Joe’s Westlake Daly City Reviews from The Last Year
Food was good.
I ordered the Arancini to start off, and the entree Shrimp Louie Salad. It was just the perfect amount, esp since we had gotten 2 rounds of bread as well. Service was great!! Server was attentive & friendly. Ambiance was nice, very old school still.
This place was very good, I Wish I lived closer.
Loved the retro vibe. I felt like a celebrity. Food was great, service was great. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
In the past, I have visited go to Westlake.
It's been a little while, but the last time I was there who is always good, and you've met a lot of famous interesting people there sometime I meant to go to the 49ers, and it would be a while back in the 80s. My name is Mark Bulnes
Food tremendous and lots of variety.
We sat at the bar and watched as so many dishes were prepared. Had pesto linguini and so tasty. Lots of complex flavors. Make a reservation. Even on a Tuesday wait for 5 people was about 1.5 hours.

We decided to celebrate our 7 year anniversary here and we enjoyed the food. The service was not great as our waiter was not very attentive at all. We decided to order Arancini balls for appetizers. Veal Marsala and Cioppino as entrees. Unfortunately, we never got to try the Arancini balls for appetizers as the main entree came out before the appetizer. At that point we were not interested at the appetizer so we had it cancelled. The main courses were excellent though. After getting through the main course we were interested with ordering dessert and our server was nowhere to be found and I had to flag another server to assist us with desserts and to go boxes. We ended up with the warm butter cake and it was amazing. All in all we would go back as the food was great but hopefully a better experience.

We ordered the BLAT sandwich(bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato) and the bay shrimp Louie. They were simple dishes but done just right. The portions are large and filling. Service was good. You might have to wait unless you get an open seat at the bar. Every time I come here, it has always been crowded. So know that it is a popular place.
Delicious food and excellent ambience.
Everyone in there is so nice and the portions are good.

Original Joes was a pleasant surprise for me as it was my first time dining there. As you enter, you are immediately welcomed by the warm wood interior and hum of casual bar-goers on the left and formal dining straight ahead. We had a reservation at 7:30 PM on a casual Tuesday and were told we had to wait 10-15 mins to sit down as the restaurant was packed that night. That said, we were seated in the dining room immediately facing the parking lot where it looks like Joes might rent this area out for events. We were pleasantly surprised by the delicious appetizers. We ordered fried calamari and the artichoke dip, both of which were delicious and came out promptly and steaming. For my entree, I enjoyed a chicken Parmesan which comes with a side of raviolis, spaghetti, or fries. I opted in for the spaghetti and it was delicious as a side with a modest size to boot. Additionally, I recommend the short ribs that my partner got as the mashed potatoes were creamy and the short ribs were extremely tender. Lastly, I highly recommend the butter cake as it was a delicious ending to the meal that pushed my stomach to its limits. It was an especially delicious meal and I will be back soon to try more dishes.
Great ambiance and great food and service is great and good
Great ambiance and great food and service is great and good seating and lighting and it was epic
Solid American diner food with an international twist.
I like their pasta dishes and the steak was pretty solid. Unlimited coffee and mimosas in the weekend also add a nice twist. Will be going back with the entire fam.
Close your eyes and think of your ultimate comfort food.
Does it include many many carbs? Lots of cheese? Perhaps a big amount of garlic? Maybe it's not even food but a martini instead? If your comfort food hits all those categories then you can not find a more satisfying place to feast your tastebuds than Joe's. They have all your fave American Italian food. Tried and loved: garlic bread, arancini, eggplant parmigiana, spicy rigatoni, tiramisu. All delicious. Portions are huge so bring your appetite. Service is top notch. Beautiful retro architecture and interior. So why 4 stars? As a vegetarian, I can find options but I feel they could step it up a bit. The appetizer selection is great, the entrees feel a bit unfinished in that department. The eggplant parmigiana being the only option that can hold its own compared to its meaty counterparts. It can also get busy and loud, so if you're already hungry and it's a popular eating time, you might want to take yourself elsewhere before get hangry because it might take a while. The lounge area was confusing. We got hosted there by a host, but we saw other folks just stalking tables and snatching them up as soon as they became available. Not sure what the protocol is, not sure anyone knows. Parking can get a bit nuts as well.

For their sky-high prices, even BEFORE the pandemic, their somewhat-greasy fare can't be justified. 15 minutes away in Pacifica, is Viva Italiano, for the best Italian food on the coast for many miles, for about a THIRD of "original Joe's" prices..... Or, go to North Beach in the city, where you're able to find half a dozen good Italian places for close to HALF of this sad remnant of original Joes....
Went to joes today to celebrate my husband and my son in
Went to joes today to celebrate my husband and my son in laws birthdays ! I've been going to joes since I was a kid and I'm old ! Been going there's so long I remember the original menu ! Have always enjoyed joes especially the bar - tonite I have to say was a huge disappointment! There were 8 of us / the food was cold my husbands order was wrong his steak was all fat and full of gristle, my shrimp salad was almost all tomato - we ran out of bread there wasn't enough butter - fries were cold all in all horrible , she didn't refill the drinks - I finished my cosmo she didn't ask if I wanted another one but probably good I didn't have another because she would have got an earful, Our waitress was the WORST too bad for her because we always take care of the waitstaff, left her didlly nothing - and tell me why she told me giving them birthday desert wasn't mandatory ! lol what a joke - go back and take some customer service classes! - Have always loved joes my first bridal shower was there , my baby shower was there , went weekly for the steak ala Bruno when we lived in Daly City - it's part of our history but wow the food and service was horrible ! But the worst part is I was looking forward to my butter cake and was so pissed off I didn't order it , I just wanted to leave joes you get a big fat thumbs down food and service was horrible !
I grew up eating at Joes.
We always lived in a Doelger home therefore eating at Joes was of Doelger ethics! I have always been a fan of their food, service and ambiance. Their staff is upbeat, hospitable and friendly no less than 100% of the time. Why did it take me 34 years to write a Yelp (other than the fact that Yelp has not existed for 34 years)?! When someone provide an act of service, goes above and beyond to accommodate a customer with a special circumstance, it should be acknowledged. In fact, Hazel and Tony did just that today. I am observing Ramadan and so is my party tonight. Our fast breaks at 7:20pm and our reservation is for 7:30pm. Hazel answered the phone and checked if there was an earlier earlier reservation however there was not. When I asked if she could ask her manager and explained our circumstances (wanting to break our fast) she moved quickly and before her and Tony were able to get back on the phone to let me know they were able to accommodate for an earlier reservation, I had already received an email confirmation informing me my reservation was now for 6:45pm. Thank you both from the bottom of my heart for your stellar service.
Good place to have drinks with friends and calamari.
I haven't eaten anything on their menu that's $25+. Their ravioli is good. Between the brownie with ice cream vs the butter cake, I like the brownie more.
I've gone to Westlake Joes for probably 40 years.
I love the mid century feel, love the food. Kinda wish bar was kept old school, but still like it.
Very good food and waiters had great customer service.
Nice atmosphere. Would recommend making a reservation in advanced though. Normally, there's a long wait if not.
This restaurant is an institution in the San Francisco area.
After the remodel, they were able to rejuvenate an old-school vibe while still having a modern feel. The staff is great. The food is great. I love this place.
RIBEYE STEAK WAS A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT
For years WLJ's had the best grade of ribeye steaks. Yesterday the steak was so grizzly I couldn't cut it. After 15 minutes of trying, I gave up. The manager was apologetic but I won't order any meat dishes there again. Obviously they're serving a lesser grade of beef. They're not saving money that way because they will ultimately lose customers!
Long time "go to" restaurant
Westlake Joe's has been around since I was a kid. It is more crowded than ever these days so make a reservation. Excellent menu selections and an great bar. Portions are large and always tasty. Wait staff is gracious and helpful.
Good food. Great service
Excellent food and service. I had the fried calamari appetizer and the eggplant parmesan entree. Both tasted great and were cooked to perfection. Given that the restaurant was absolutely packed, service was still very fast and friendly. I walked in without reservations and found a seat in the bar area in less than 5 minutes. Only thing, And the reason for one missing star, the host stand tells you you can take a seat anywhere in the lounge area, bar or table. But the lounge folks have these mysterious little reserved signs on all the tables. I said it it's table with a reserved sign after the previous guests got up and left, and everything was great. But I watched another group try to sit at one of these supposed reserve tables and get chased away. Clearly the reserved signs are part of something a bit more nefarious.
Meh -
Pretty disappointed in the food. Also pretty sure staff cloned my credit card as we saw a bunch of fraudulent changes immediately following our visit after using our card. Will never go back.
Beautiful restaurant with many plants
Love the new designs especially the plants around the restaurant, love tge color of the booth. Food is ok. Servise is ok.
Fantastic! 6 Stars
It was so wonderful we went twice! Ala Bruno was unbelievable. My wife had the fish and it was huge! Delicious. The presentation was beautiful and the staff was 110% and we only ate in the lounge!
Food and Service never disappoint
Once again, The Original Joes of Westlake did not disappoint. Everything about the experience was 5 Stars. Our server was FANTASTIC. Food Hot, plentiful and reasonably priced. I had the most gorgeous Cobb Salad, the presentation was truly a work of art. 1 friend had Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and loved it. Other friend had Linguini Pesto Pasta w/Chicken and oh my, it was delicious. Lot's of garlic and Pesto sauce to soak up w/all the warm french bread. Server kept all our water glasses filled up and our bread basket full of hot bread and soft butter. I LOVE this restaurant for it's consistency and there is always something on the menu I want to try. Parking sucks, but that is also part of the experience. Reservations are a must.
