Higly recommended restaunt for lovely dinner experience
Very very nice experience in our lovely Christmas holiday. We had Vienese shnitzel and boiled beef dish with much pleasure. Mr Dougles waited us very kindly all night. We recommend the lovely Austrian restaunt with very kind staff.
Be the first to ReplyVery enjoyable evening.
This reminded us or an upmarket ski chalet style restaurant. The food was excellent - very Austrian but taht's what we came here for! A good choice of wines by the glass which I was able to taste before deciding and the service efficient and friendly. Our waitress spoke perfect English and was most helpful. Despite the two hour time slot, we were not rushed and indeed went over the allocated time! Great choice and very enjoyable.
Be the first to ReplyTraditional Viennese meal in an authentic atmosphere
Traditional Viennese meal in an authentic atmosphere. Immersive decor, impeccable service, careful and mastered cuisine at your fingertips. The selection of Austrian wines is highly recommendable. Martin the head waiter took great care to make this dinner a memorable one. You will have understood, Zum Weissen Rauchfangkehrer is an unmissable gourmet stopover if you are staying in Vienna.

We were treated very kindly and courteously by the waiters and the food was delicious. Our expectations were exceeded.

Nice restaurant, traditional and very friendly staff. The food tasted good and there was enough for me, my husband would have been happy with a little more 😌

Wow! Food was amazing. Staff was incredible. Our waiter made great recommendations including a special Easter lamb menu. We had Carrot soup- excellent, and traditional pork schnitzel with cranberry sauce. Attention to detail was fantastic. Waiter recognized I was left handed by the way I drank my water and changed my knife and fork, brought me a new napkin before I realized I dropped mine. Definitely a must go when in Vienna.

We made a reservation at short notice, which worked out well. You can feel the rich history as soon as you walk in. The customer service is consistently of a very high standard. The menu is manageable, we had the set menu. ALL courses were fantastic, the wine selection was good and the digestive selection was sensational.

Perfect hospitality! Very good schnitzel and apple strudel. High-quality classics, beautifully interpreted, with top service
Be the first to ReplyA Great Find for Authentic Austrian Food!
What a find! On our way back to hotel without reservations and they were able to accomodate us. Lucas our server went above and beyond, not only with recommendations, but lively conversation as to the restaurant and the city since we had just arrived in Vienna. For true Austrian food, no better place. And we had no idea it was a Michellin restaurant when we went in! Also, very reasonably priced.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, if in the mood for Austrian food
This is my go-to when in Vienna and am in the mood for Austrian food. Somewhat of serious of a place, with well dressed locals. Reservation is a good idea. I’ve been a few times for dinner and each time, we enjoyed live piano music. Wide range of alcohol choices for before, during and after your meal. Most dishes are meat-based so if vegetarian, you will likely end up with an excellent salmon trout.
Be the first to ReplyA great restaurant for an Austrian dinner in Vienna.
This restaurant was just across the street from our hotel in Vienna and since it had a good reputation is was an obvious option for dinner one night. "Zum weißen Rauchfangkehrer" translates to 'The White Chimneysweep' and there is a nice story behind the name of this restaurant... It is said that a chimney sweep used to date a girl that worked in the bakers, (or maybe it was the bakers daughter), and they used to cuddle out the back of the bakers and hence the normally black with soot chimneysweep was turned white with flour from his antics in the bakery... This is how the restaurant got its name. The restaurant has a nice ambience and the waiter had a sense of humour. We were sat in the window seat right next to the restaurants main entrance and to be honest it was rather cold here as people kept coming in and the door took a while to close letting the freezing November wind in... So if dining here in Winter ask not to have the table by the door! The menu had lots of traditional 'regional' cuisine and the Leberkas (Sausage) and Erbsen-Selleriesuppe (Pea Soup) we had to start were both tasty. We then had the Pork Schnitzel for main which was again very good (€25.90). I had Apple Strudel for dessert which was again very good and my wife had a liquor coffee. All in all we enjoyed our meal very much and would recommend anyone to dine here if wanting Austrian cuisine. Our bill came to €126
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem in inner city Vienna
What an absolute hidden gem! Found by searching restaurants near me on Google from our hotel. The friendly service and food were exceptional! Our young waiter was humorous and engaging and truly made our last night in Vienna memorable. The pianist added to the lovely ambience. The carrot soup deserved a much grander name as it was so delicious! The wine was perfect. We chose two different schnapps from their list of over 300. I wish we had found this restaurant sooner!

The food was exceptional. Traditional Austrian menu with added verve. Lovely interior, attentive service, huge range of schnapps for after dinner. Faultless.
Be the first to ReplyExcellency spoiled by the billing...
We greatly enjoyed this, one of the best surprises ever for a restaurant booking based on TripAdvisor: very nice place; excellent food; great wines; superb selection of liquors (to look at already); very entertaining waiter; ... But then, the wines are relatively more expensive than the food, but of great quality, and we (6 people but 1 didn't drink alcohol) had a bottle of champagne and a bottle of wine ... when we finished it the waiter asked if we wanted another bottle of wine, which we kindly refused as being satisfied. Nevertheless, somewhat later the waiter came with glasses and an open bottle of another wine (stronger but not as fine as the one we had before) and served as a small quantity in a large glass. We were all convinced that this was at the restaurants' expenses, as we declined more and it was a really small quantity ... and then when we paid it was quite more expensive than expected, but this could be explained by an error (and I believe this was a real error) from the waiter ... but once back in the hotel we saw that we were charged 12,5 euro for each of the non-asked for glasses of extra wine! This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE! We were happy that we declined the "offer" to take a schnaps....
Be the first to ReplyDelicious refined Austrian classics
Classic dishes elegantly presented. The lamb was especially gorgeous with creamy white bean and pak choi. Dessert was also a dream. Service attentive but we were one of only three occupied tables in the front parlour. A cute venue for a small group or a couple. Only downside was that the hard and narrow wooden benches were not comfortable for my husband which affected his enjoyment somewhat. No live music when we visited (pre-opera dinner) but very soothing Bach masterworks were played instead!

Lovely people and great traditional Austrian food. Hidden gem just off the main high streets. Book ahead though to avoid disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyNo more schnitzel!!!
Don’t do it! We found this restaurant in Rick Steve’s Vienna book. We have always enjoyed his recommendations, but this is an exception. The “boiled beef” and “lamb schnitzel” were just awful. Seriously, the it’s not worth the $$.

We booked a table for this popular place otherwise you do not get a table. Excellent authentic Austrian food and friendly service. In the center of Vienna, easy walking distance from our hotel.
Be the first to ReplyTasty Austrian cuisine and wine plus excellent service
Firstly we have to say thank you for the excellent service, we were made so welcome and looked after remarkably well. Our waiter spoke impeccable English having worked in New York and his manner, humour and attention was spot on throughout the meal. The decor and setting was lovely, with piano in the background and a cosy wooden booth by the window which allowed you to feel both part of the restaurant but also secluded and able to focus on food and company. The Austrian wine, St Laurent Classic, was very nice and complimented the meaty meal well. The pork knuckle starter, despite its curious name for an English translation is a sophisticated and tasty dish. As a traditional Austrian restaurant expect to eat traditionally Austrian. This may sound obvious but it isn’t to everyone’s taste and is meat focused, I however enjoyed my veal Schnitzel (and a good bite of my fellow diner’s pork schnitzel) and would recommend either. The little touch of playing happy birthday on the piano and bringing out a dessert with a sparkler in to celebrate the birthday mentioned when initially reserving weeks ago, was special attention to detail. Overall a very pleasant Austrian dining experience and well worth doing while in Vienna as your authentic cuisine option.

Ate here during a visit to Vienna. The food was wonderful; had a salad and the pork/cabbage goulash. Meal was delicious. Service was good. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplySimple Food Made Perfectly
We stayed in Vienna for two nights and ate here twice, the menu is varied and the portions are sensible. The drinks menus offers a wide range for all tastes. We have a vegan starter which was amazing. The mains, fish and schnitzel were superb. I agree with some reviewers that it is on the pricey side, but worth every euro.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful food and ambience
Yeah, I agree it's shameful to charge for the pianist, but I'd seen it in reviews before selecting. The food was delicious, especially the beef tartare. I had schnitzel, and this was the best I've had. That said, I won't ever order schnitzel again as I don't see the draw. We had the souffle dessert and it was okay.
Be the first to ReplyLovely experience and good food spoiled by petty side charges.
We enjoyed the food, particularly the cold leek and potato soup and the warm pea soup with chanterelles. The pork schnitzel was authentic (and not overlooked) and the red pepper with lamb was modern, light, and delicious. I suppose in the middle of Vienna a restaurant can change both cover and for the pianist, but there is no excuse for being dubbed for a carafe of tap water. Whether this was an inexperienced server or a greedy owner, no establishment charges for tap water. This would have been a 4 were it not for the petty annoyance charge.

We booked this last minute and so glad that we did
We booked a piano room table and we’re situated in a booth right next to the piano
Lovely music
Really quant restaurant and great staff
A lovely menu and surprised how amazing the food was.
I had beetroot for starters which was amazing and schnitzel pork for mains and straddle for desert. I wouldn’t have the strudel again as it was all nuts and no apple!
Lovely place and would recommend
Possibly one of the best
Whilst touring Vienna, what caught our eye was the outfit of all waiters and then we took a look at the rest of the restaurant. Wooden, well-organised spaces for all companies, classic Mid-European internal style that was welcoming you to enter. We went the following day and had one of the best experiences possible. Our waiter well-fluent in English was able to answer all our questions and guide us through the menu. The small entry plates were truly a gastronomic pleasure. We had the Boiled Beef (Kavalierspitz) and the Chicken (Paprikahuhn). The chicken did not amuse us whilst it was well cooked, the boiled beef was exquisite and the mashed potato on the side perfect. All ingredients were of high quality and the chef delivered to the full. Definitely worth tasting since it is a unique experience unlike any other. Live piano music completed our lunch and us having a wonderful time in the city of Vienna.
A definite must during your time in Vienna.
