Updates about NY Regulation A10215 |
|
Edit on 02/16/2025
Effective February 17, 2025, AppointmentTrader will comply fully with NY GBL §391-w.
No new transactions for New York-based restaurants will be listed, advertised, promoted or sold without proper authorization.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear AppointmentTrader Community,
Governor Kathy Hochul of New York State signed a bill today which will become effective on February 17th, 2025 that seeks to prevent third party platforms from selling restaurant reservations.4)
I remember vividly what made me start working on this platform. At 7:55 am on a Monday, I saw a line of easily one hundred people lined up in front of a Las Vegas DMV, all of them waiting to get a ‘walk-in appointment’.
After asking some of them how long they had been waiting, the first ones in line pointed out a sleeping sack and said they were here all night.
I thought – this must be some freak occurrence and came back the next day to see if it was any different – to my surprise it was the same, so I went back a couple more times only to learn that every day looked like this.
I thought to myself – if you imagine that every day looks like this – this one inefficient DMV wastes one hundred human lifetimes just waiting in line.
That’s what made me realize that an efficient market for any timeslot is currently not existent and is urgently needed.
Fast forward $14m+ in appointment trades that earned many people an honest, fully taxed living and allowed thousands of poeple to dine at places they otherwise wouldn't have been able to visit, we received more than 10m views on a handful of viral X posts following a story in the New Yorker in May of this year, which triggered regulation that was pushed through assembly and senate within only four weeks (!). 4)
If you take a look under the hood to find out who lobbied for the bill – you will learn that American Express (owner of Resy) is a major backer 1) , who coincidentally (?) just recently purchased prepaid reservations platform Explore Tock for $400,000,000 2) and is giving 'accessibility perks' to its platinum cardholders (please see my first post in this thread) - a quote from the NY Times DealBook summit of Elon Musk comes to mind:
“What I care about is the reality of Goodness, not the perception of it. And what I see all over the place is people that care about looking good, while doing evil.” 3)
In this case this seems to apply to legislation that is claiming to 'help families lower the cost of dining' while truly helping a multibillion dollar corporation to lock down coveted restaurant reservations by attempting to destroy an open market where people buy and sell reservations for an average of ~$100.
It is also interesting to see that this bill is exclusively backed by restaurants, restaurants associations and a credit card company – but not one consumer agency – which does make sense.
Our customers are the end-customers – Resy’s customers are restaurants – go figure.
If we fail to make this right by February 17th, not one more non-industry or non-wealthy person can go to the Corner Store, Carbone, 4 Charles Prime Rib or Tatiana than before as they will not want to prepay thousands of dollars and as there is more demand than supply the few truly free reservations will still be snatched up by bots (as ironically enough, botting was not outlawed in this bill) and be sold on actual 'black markets' unlike ours, which is quite the opposite considering our 'sell-through-rate' requirement of 50%, alongside customer and seller refund guarantees.
I want to stress one thing: I very much respect the parties mentioned above – American Express has built a spectacular business and if I was in their shoes I might try to leverage my market dominance in the same way – but I have a hard time how this is “helping-the-people”.
I am 100% convinced that removing pricing from commodities that experience more demand than supply will not make them any more available – quite the opposite is true.
Due to this fact I’d like to ask the Appointment Trader community to use this thread as a platform to document when they encounter how credit card companies & restaurants are trying to leverage being oversold in a way that benefits a few rather than allowing an open market to exist.
I will make the first post as an example below.
Many Thanks to our Customers and Sellers,
Yours Truly,
Jonas

Hey Everyone,
Business has been good – after starting literally from zero a bit over a year and a half ago users on AppointmentTrader turned >$2m in the last 12 months in gross volume and by virtue of us being a marketplace of course the vast majority of completed transaction proceeds have been paid out to platform sellers.
I have personally hired and managed hundreds of employees in the past 20 years and had some outstanding team members.
However: Out of a larger team there were usually a few superstars who carried the rest of the group and I had to wonder how to keep the stars motivated and get the rest of the team excited to do better.
My teams implemented bonus structures, thrown many company parties, rolled out incentive programs – you name it, we’ve done it.
Yet – I have never seen such a uniformly hardworking team as on AppointmentTrader, even though we have absolutely zero traditional management structures in our company and are only guiding users by metrics and rule-based status increases.
After having run AppointmentTrader for a while I realized that if a system is democratic and transparent to any participant on how to make a living and being able to set their own work pace, there is no need to motivate employees – people motivate them selves as they clearly understand the relationship between their time input and the resulting output.
Since I started noticing this, I wrecked my head about why not all functions in a company can be filled just like sellers fill bids on AppointmentTrader.
As I started thinking about this issue early enough, this led me to build the company in a way that we do not have a single traditional employee that gets paid in a two week cycle.
I have been trailing the model with select contributors in the past year, before pouring it into tech – which is now happening:
We will realize the first fully automated management structure for a large team and are now continually rolling out a process that will allow users to onboard to AppointmentTrader Corporate in their own time and at their own pace.
Whether you are great at customer communication, coding, marketing, legal, strategy or only god knows what else, you will be able to start ‘filling’ corporate contracts on AT, and build your reputation within the system solely by delivering on tasks posted on AppointmentTrader.
By design there will be no way for stakeholders to select any one contributor but only to select a qualification, also you will not be able to communicate with the stakeholder of the project, thus forcing the stakeholder to clearly define an achievable task and for you to try your very best to deliver the requested result, a community committee rates and approves your work, so as long as you are within the parameters of the project you will be paid – keep in mind however, if the stakeholder doesn’t like your result you won’t receive a professional upvote from them, which slows you down in your ascension to larger contracts.
All specialized knowledge can be obtained using out own certification program which will then give you access to bigger contracts.
The goal is for anyone to be able to use their proprietary skillset to their absolute maximum and make a career six or seven (who knows, maybe 8???)-figure/year career without having to go through politics but just by delivering results.
Please – do let me know what you guys think, I will be posting whenever we release a new vertical.
Finally, we are calling this the Money Network as I truly believe that the invention of money and the consequential motivation of humans, is the reason that humans are now winged and can talk to their loved ones from the Australian outback to London City in an real time.

🤑 We are looking for: Support & Community Admins
Good Morning Everyone,
We are rolling out the first stage of the corporate tasks for the AppointmentTrader Money Network (https://appointmenttrader.com/money-network ).
Users can now earn a certification to be able to answer support requests and administer the community -
As always on AppointmentTrader you can work as much or as little as you like and you get paid for each task that you complete - e.g. for each support request answered or for each administrative action taken in the community.
This will also extend into reviewing new listings uploaded to AT, which comes with the nice perk of seeing the very best listings first - in case you want to secure them for your self, beyond just being paid each time a listing is reviewed.
Also, corporate contributors get more abilities on the platform such as direct user to user chats.
If you are interested please post a reply in this thread and we'll get in touch.

Sellers can now contact buyers
The goal is to make transactions as smooth as possible - so as a seller you should not need to contact the customer - all listing specifics should be handled in the listing process.
Sometimes things happen outside of the sellers control if that's the case, please tap 'Portfolio'->'Purchase History'->'Contact Customer or Cancel Listing'
Please keep in mind that we track how many customers you contact and an elevated customer contract rate will lead to account suspension.
PLEASE HELP- DAY 3 OF PLATFORM CHARGING ME
I have been trying to get help on this for the past 3 days with no luck.
I transferred all my money from my sale proceeds and apparently this included a credit line that Appointment trader gave me (how? Why? I never signed up for this)
Now my account balance has been under 0, and I’ve been getting charged INTEREST FEE every single day.
Now these things happen ok, but there is NO WAY i could find other than just selling another reservation. I even tried purchasing and cancelling a bid with hopes that my balance would recover.
I created support tickets, countless posts, emails. Please help me community.
This is so concerning that a platform just can charge a fee, and no one is there to fix the problem. Including myself. PLEASE HELP
Hotels on AT: Use Other Peoples Loyalty Points to Get a Steep Discount on the Worlds Best Hotels!
Happy Wednesday Everyone,
We just finished a small update to AT that now allows users to trade their hotel reservations.
You can now trade prepaid hotel bookings that you would otherwise lose on the platform or turn your unused loyalty points into cash by filling bids from people who would like to book their stay.
As many people have asked:
The way the loyalty redemption works is follows: Once a bid for any location comes in we send the bid our to now more than thousands of sellers of whom many have a balance of loyalty points.
After they pick up your bid a private chat is started that allows you to securely share the name on your booking and have the seller book the room for you.
Should you select one of the suite categories and bid more than $5,000 the bid will be sent to the hotel directly which allows them to fill it them selves, as they are in competition with the AT sellers they are prompted to do so quickly!
Last but not least - as shown in the picture you can now see the very best restaurants & hotels in the world - constantly updated with live room price and AT trading price data!
Now Tradable: Beauty Studios, Salons, SPAs and Veterinarians.
We are so pumped - today our platform broke through $50k in traded appointments & reservations (you can see the volume when opening AT on your computer), after having officially launched a little over 5 months ago! Our momentum keeps growing - 82% of the $50k traded have been turned in the last ~70 days. We monitor the searches of our users closely and due to popular demand, today is the day that you will no longer have to wait for a hair appointment with your favorite hair dresser or skip that much needed massage on your 2 day getaway because the SPA is overbooked. Try it yourself: Open the AppointmentTrader search page and search for your favorite beauty location. Please do leave a comment, we can not wait to hear from you.
