peter – eat, drink & enjoy Salzburg Reviews from The Last Year
Overpriced, average food
I should have listened to the reviews I read. This place was average food with an expensive price tag. The waiter was one of the most unfriendly we’ve ever had. The sommelier however was so kind and friendly. Too bad he wasn’t our waiter. I would skip this place and find another
Historic place with average food.
Historic restaurant. Nevertheless the food was average. Cocktails were good. On the tomato-apple soup you could feel only tomato and cumin. Overpriced also the vegetarian and vegan options. Beluga lentils croquettes were flat on flavours and too less quantity for 22€.On the other side the caramel salted butter was fantastic. Service was fast and polite. I think they could improve on taste. Overall I find it overpriced but iw worths a visit.
Not worth it, charge $12 for tasteless bread and butter!
I am so disappointed to write such a negative review of such a historic place, but I wanted to share our experience with others so you know that there are so many other fantastic Salzburg restaurants that are much better than St. Peters. It is cool to say I went to the oldest restaurant in Europe, but it is not worth it. The food was actually bland and expensive. But the bigger issue was charging us $12 Euro for bread and butter that were brown and tasteless, and then the waiter arguing with us that it is in the menu (which I asked him to point out and he could not find it...when he finally did it was so small I was like that is ridiculous we could never see that). The manager came over and we were like we were never told upfront about that ridiculous mandatory charge for tasteless bread, and we were not given the option to decline the bread? He sorted it out, but the last thing we wanted to do on vacation was to make a scene and felt embarrassed by the way the waiter handled it and then expected a 20% suggested tip? You have got to be kidding me! I gave the review two stars as the atmosphere was cool as they renovated a historic space into a very funky decor environment. But you are saving your money and not missing anything if you dine elsewhere.
Very special restaurant
Oh my good this is a very special place The historic building 800ad the oldest restaurant in Europe is absolutely amazing We were greeted and seated in a very busy restaurant My friend and I chose two starters which shared the duck liver pate and the salmon. Both absolutely stunning We were given beautiful sour dough bread with caramelised butter Mains we chose the traditional schnitzel with cranberries and baked cod and a beautiful green salad Followed by wonderful selection of cheese The service was impeccable If you are going to the area it’s a must The drinks the wine the quirkiness of this very special place
My old town favorite, simply good to delicious
Somehow hidden away, at any time of day for a snack, soup or dessert or a great surprise menu. The preparation and taste were harmonious and worth every euro. In the oldest inn in Europe
Where to begin? Okay.
..so, I read the many reviews of this place and knew what I was getting ourselves into. Honestly, I even debated with myself whether I'd even show up or just go back to the beer hall from our dinner the other day. However, I decided to give it a try considering the history. Let me just say that ---- I ate here, the oldest restaurant IN THE WORLD! Who knew? I still can't get over how that's even possible. Besides that, everything else was a blur. Ambience was weird and food was overrated. However, service was quite impressive. (Btw, the bread and butter is "mandatory" (LOL!) and charges you 6 euros per person whether you like it or not) Would I go back? Ummmmm
Never ever again :(
This place is fantastic, if you are a pretentious old Tory who doesn't care about how your food tastes. Otherwise, I would avoid like the plague; my sister and I actually wanted to warn the poor people coming in as we were leaving. But why, you ask? Atmosphere - We came here for brunch on a Saturday. The place seemed kind of dead which was the first warning sign. There were two ladies on a table next to us who seemed very cosy with who I assume was the chef - not sure what was going on but it was weird. One of them told my sister how to eat her food; the gesture was definitely intended only to be kind, but nobody likes being told how they should eat their food when they're trying to keep to themselves - my sister went very quiet after that. We definitely felt watched the entire time there. Despite their claims of being the oldest restaurant in Europe, the entrance to the place looks like a nightclub for teenagers. Once inside, we couldn't see anything related to the history of the place, which was disappointing; even my local pub has informational boards on the town and origins. It just felt like a normal, slightly small restaurant. (granted, we may just not have been able to see everything, but there's therefore a chance that could happen for you too!) Food - oh my GOSH was the food nasty. I eat vegan every day, I know that vegan food can be amazing if you put some effort into it. The vegan omelette I ordered was a plain, 5mm-thick circle that tasted like playdough - for €9. I do not understand how you get vegan omelettes so wrong! I can make a decent one with aquafaba, chickpea flour, & black salt for a fraction of the price - it's not hard, and I'm not a chef! I genuinely struggled to swallow this after the first bite, and only finished it because I have terrible anxiety and didn't want to be asked why I didn't eat the nasty thing. My sister's crepes were much nicer, but again something you can make at home SO easily, and you'd get far more than the €12 gets you here. We shared a zucchini brownie, which I actually enjoyed, especially as it got the omelette taste out of my mouth. It was inconsistent, though - while the piece I had was nice, the piece my sister had was ROCK HARD and she was sawing through it with her knife. She couldn't understand why I thought it was okay until she tried my piece. Again, for €9, you want to be sure it's going to be good quality and not an old stale piece. The vitalsmoothie was again, a tiny amount of liquid for almost €6, and served in a wine glass for some reason. Felt very style over substance here. Prices - Okay, you go to this place knowing the prices are quite steep. We didn't mind the prices before we got here, we were happy to pay them for a good experience. It was only after we tasted the food that we had a problem. If you're going to charge premium prices, you need to serve premium food. The prices absolutely do not reflect the quality of the food here. We visited an Italian nearby 3 days in a row because the food was such good quality, and the prices for main courses there were 1/2 to 1/4 of the price of main courses here. Save your money! Also, when we were paying, the waitress pointed out the tip part on the card machine and hovered right over us staring as we were paying. We usually tip anyway, but that kind of pressure is never nice, and just capped off the anxiety-inducing, immensely disappointing experience. I really *want* to write some positives, I don't like negative feedback. But I can't think of anything other than.. the cutlery was clean? The zucchini brownie was nice for me, but I wouldn't order it again knowing I could get the rock hard flavourless piece. The waiting staff were nice, minus the paying part; they handled our broken German well. Maybe we just had a bad experience, maybe the chef was having an off day, I don't know, I can only comment on the experience we had. But my impression of the place is that it is an incredibly pretentious tourist trap, and it's not even worth going for 'eating in the oldest restaurant in Europe' because it doesn't feel like that inside or out. Visit one of the other amazing restaurants in Salzburg that leave you full and excited from great food, without breaking the bank. I'm still having nightmares about that omelette.
An Amazing Restaurant
My sister and I had a wonderful evening here. She is vegan and really enjoyed the food they brought her. The people were so nice and the food, drink and atmosphere amazing. Highly recommended.
Winter brunch was disappointing
Very disappointing. Wed booked for the winter brunch based on the website advertising it was served in the outdoor lounge that was heated to a cosy temperature all year round. When i asked the waiter if we can eat outside she loojed at me like i was stupid and say its to cold. I showed her what the website advertised and het response was 'they know how to attract people in'. I told her we only came for the appeal of the outdoor lounge, whete you get the feel of how old the building is. We ate indoors in the standard restaurant environment, more like an old library feel, could've been anywhere, not the oldest restaurant in Europe. Unfortunately the food itself was poor, definitely not Michelin star. My sons crepe suzette had way too much syrup that made it very sickly. My eggs deluxe had far too much mustard which over powered the dish. Overall realky disappointed with the experience.
Outstanding
They say it is 1200 years old. I’ve been there once. 23 years ago. Visiting Salzburg again I recognized that place immediately. Regardless, it is worth of paying a visit. Service was good, food was very good. The atmosphere could not be better, quiet, pleasant. If you have a chance visit that establishment, you will not be disappointed.
Amazing restaurant
Had a lovely meal and experience here with the Mozart dinner concert … The evening was made even more special when we had finished. We went downstairs and were trying to have a look at the oldest restaurant in Europe. Andy a member of the staff asked if he could help us with anything and when we said we are just looking he then gave us a guided tour of the restaurant even the part built into the mountain.. He is obviously very proud of where he works.. Lovely young man… Thank you for a special night.
This place is full of history.
They turn this place into a small Christmas market during the holidays. This is also considered to be the world's oldest restaurant.
A little difficult to find because it's in a small section
A little difficult to find because it's in a small section of the square, but we asked around and found it through a small entryway. Wow! The decor is absolutely amazing and very modern with pop culture vibes. Knowing this is one of the oldest restaurants IN THE WORLD piqued my curiosity and we could not leave without stopping in. The beer was beer. Served in a beautiful glass, and cold. But the dessert that is nothing but meringue designed to pay homage to the three largest mountain in their region was mind- blowing. Extremely sweet so they serve it with a very tart raspberry preserves to help keep it balanced. It was delicious and should not not be attempted as a dessert for one! Look around while you are there. Looks the age of the building, you can see the original architecture and it's beautiful.
The interior is a little tacky and gives off Miami vibes.
It's cute and fun but not really what I imagined the inside to look like. I would've liked it to be more classy and traditional but I guess lawn chairs and gorillas coming out the walls are good too. It took a good 5 min for a host to come and help us get seated. A cute older couple was waiting before us, so who knows how long they were waiting. The service was nothing amazing. They were very short-staffed and when you are sitting in the back corner it's hard to get any attention from the servers. There was one amazing server with great suggestions BUT once it got busier he wasn't really around anymore. The food was good, the tomato and burrata were amazing. My boyfriend got the steak that was overpriced for how small and thick the cute was, and not cooked to his liking BUT the hollandaise sauce was delicious with the steak so it made up for it. I also had some truffle salt with me that I sprinkled on top.
They've been around since the 800s so it makes sense that
They've been around since the 800s so it makes sense that they'd have good food! The restaurant opens for lunch, closes, and then opens for dinner. I highly recommend you make reservations for your visit because it is very popular. For lunch you can walk in for a table without trouble. Dinner, you can't. The seating is pretty much all outdoors but covered by a concrete or uncovered in a courtyard. It's all open air. If you don't want to pay the high menu prices stick to deserts because they're very good, especially the apple strudel. Skip the soups. Staff is nice and does speak English.
Good ambiance, doesn't feel like it's that old though.
It was a bit weird. I thought the food was good but way too expensive. I'd pass on it if I went back to Salzburg.
Wow!!! This place is incredible.
I had the traditional Salzburg dessert and it is a must try while you are in the city.
Tik tok showed me St Peter's the day before arriving in
Tik tok showed me St Peter's the day before arriving in Saltzberg and I needed to check it out. It had a funky vibe with neon lights, foliage, and twinkle lights. We had a fabulous waiter and the food was alright. My biggest surprise was that they made an excellent smoked Manhattan and an aperol spritz, both of which I'm not a huge fan of. The smoke gave the drink such a smooth flavor, almost like a wine. Could this be the beginning of my love affair with a good Manhattan ? Only time will tell.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!

This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!

perfect
Worked well, got me into a restaurant with no availability
I was skeptical, and I still don't really know how they managed to find this hard-to-find reservation, but it was a win-win from my point of view, and I'll use this service again.
Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
