Le Colonial Houston Reviews from The Last Year
One of our faves in Houston.
You can always count on the great service, food and ambiance at le colonial! You can't go wrong with anything on their menu. The decor is always like going into the past and in another time and place.
Not much to say about the food because of what they offer
Not much to say about the food because of what they offer (limited vegan & gf) but I will share my delightful experience. Came here for my cousin's birthday. The ambiance indoors is very nature and forest vibes. Soft, dim lighting & greenery all throughout. We sat outside on the first level, which I really enjoyed because the weather was perfect. Our server Tabby was splendid. She was very attentive and catered to all of our needs. She went out of her way to talk to the chef to ensure I could be included amidst my allergies & dietary restrictions. The staff are excellent and kept checking on us throughout our night. I ended up having a custom order of veggie fried rice with tofu. It was lightly seasoned & no sauce which I preferred. Nothing too heavy. My cousins ordered the shrimp spring rolls, chicken dumplings, shrimp and chicken stir fry, different fried rices, & the salmon. They seemed to enjoy their food. The food is plentiful so come with an open belly. I would suggest trying a variety of things and sharing if you have a broader palate. The restaurant is located right in the midst of Galleria area near iPic & the other outdoor shopping locations. They also had a private party going on and lots of other huge parties there. Overall pleasant time. Thank you Tabby for being so kind to my family & I!

Okay, I won't lie, I was hesitant given river oaks and Vietnamese cuisine mixing together had me taken aback. I've read the history and thought it would be a heavy attempt on Vietnamese cuisine but I was wrong! The vermicelli was one of the best I've had with a great flavor mix of French and Vietnamese cuisine. Service was amazing. My wife accident booked next month instead of this specific date but they were accommodating as it was not too packed at 11am. Thank you for that. I plan to come again and take my parents. Note to others, dress code is enforced if you are unprepared.
I've been meaning to write this for a while .
.. but DONT WAST YOUR DIME ON OVERPRICED VIETNAMESE FOOD ... They try to think that you are in some swanky Michelin star restaurant and need a dress code and reservations but in fact they are in a glorified shopping complex given there are some high end stores but don't let it fool you the rift raft or wanna be somebodies of Houston try to think they are dining in some part of the orient but nope it's not ... so never again am I going to this place or recommend it to people I know ...

We love le colonial! Always the best! Sebastian was the best bartender! Curry chicken and spring rolls are 100%!

Great service and great food, really enjoyed our intimate dinner here and what was recommended
Love the atmosphere at this place! The drinks are great
Love the atmosphere at this place! The drinks are great and so is the food! I love the tuna tartar! My server was Kylie and she was so sweet and fun, we had a friend at the table from out of town and she Had a ton of great recommendations! Her personality was great and I'll definitely be back to see her and for some more lemon drop and lychee martinis.
Pricy but love the ambiance, cocktails, and eggrolls.
Sticky rice and garlic noodles are really good too. Great date night spot. They have an affordable lunch prefixe menu too! Valet is $10 but free parking garage right around the corner. Upstairs bar area is so cute. Seems fancy but I take my 10 month old daughter there all the time! No changing room in the bathroom though.
Simply my favorite restaurant to celebrate, celebrate
Simply my favorite restaurant to celebrate, celebrate milestones, celebrate friendships, celebrate life! Food was always fabulous! Service was always top notch! Last week we were celebrating a surprise birthday and when the cream brûlée magically arrived at our table, my friend was really surprised, and touched by this thoughtful gesture! Definitely will be back again soon
Good experience
Nice decor and great atmosphere. Could become somewhat noisy. Food and eservice was good. Valet parking was available but could be slow during busy times.
Service was excellent.
Interior was nicely decorated. Bo lu lac was bland and had no flavor. Salmon was fishy. The best dish was the pork ribs. The soup was good. Overpriced food.
Okay, so this place has ~*rules*~.
When you make a reservation online you scroll through more than a page of rules regarding dress code. Intimidating. TLDR version of their rules is basically 'no sportswear". It actually wasn' as bad as it seemed. My husband I went for a date night. When we arrived for our 6 pm reservation MAJOR Chinese New Year shenanigans were going on in the street in front. Massive crowds were gathered around people doing a show in a Chinese dragon costume. Kinda cool. Once we slipped past the crowd into the door we were informed that they were not currently seating people while the shenanigans were going on outside. Why? Who knows--it was never explained to us. We and multiple groups of other people who had been waiting angrily stood in the small entry way while listening to the deafening sound of pounding drums outside. We waited 20 minutes and were lucky not to have waited 45+ minutes like some of the other guests who also had reservations. Finally we were seated. Once seated, service was impeccable. Wait staff was attentive and had good recommendations. We split two small plates and one large plate between the two of us. Our favorite was the Ga Xao Xa Ot or spicy chicken stir-fry (spicy). My husband liked his old fashioned especially because it involved a smoke show.
The managers (Shannon and emily) ruined our birthday
The managers (Shannon and emily) ruined our birthday experience. We had one drink at the bar before we got seated, then once sat we ordered another. Shannon said to me "how about we get some food in your system before I get you another". I had ONE drink. We then called Emily over to complain and she was extremely rude to us saying I was slurring my speech. The food is always incredible and 10/10 but the management is complete trash.
Disappointing
We asked for quiet table and made reservation 2 weeks in advance for 4 We were seated next to bar and close to front door in main room. Unbelievably loud and cold wind every time door opened. Conversation was impossible. We ordered starters, salad and entree. They brought everything out at same time. Terrible service. 3 sets of dark stairs to get to bathroom. Food was good but will not return.
Food was great, service was as well.
Great spot to try while visiting Houston! Recommend the Lychee Martini.
too noisy!
The food is good though overpriced for some Vietnamese basics. The place is too low with heavy bass music, kitchen noise, and people trying to talk over the background noise all contributing to a headache. The waiter misheard my wine order and I couldn't understand what the waiter was saying and conversation became too hard with repetition and yelling. the tables are also too close together.
Relaxed ambience and great sharing experience
We had a very nice lunch. Went with family, sharing dishes and trying many things makes the experience better. The variety really callas for sharing.
Delightful Vietnamese-French restaurant
We had visited this restaurant in the past, before COVID hit and a couple of times during COVID and we always enjoyed it. Earlier this year we visited her sister restaurant in Chicago and were quite disappointed by the ambiance, food and service, so we returned to our Houston classic to make sure it hadn't gone the same route as the Chicago venue. To our relief, nothing had changed: the place it still beautiful, elegant, the food is excellent and the service, prompt and efficient. We started with Banh Cuon (chicken & mushroom ravioli) and Bo Bam Cay (beef tenderloin ravioli). While the two looked very similar, the tastes were quite different, fresh and enticing. The wines by the glass were excellent (Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay), and the bottle of Priorat was delightful, For mains, we shared a half Roast Duck (Vit Quay) and a side of Ca Tim Nuong (Japanese eggplant chargrilled with garlic, onion, scallion and Jalapenos). The Duck was very flavorful, although parts of it were somewhat chewy. For dessert we shared a coffee mousse, along with a glass of Pineau dessert wine. Overall, while the duck could have been better (more tender), the evening was quite delightful.

Forget trying to snipe reservations online by waking up early and booking top restaurants at Carbone or Tatiana or Cote or 4Charles. After 2.5 months of booking reservations by setting up alarms, waking up early to sell appointments. It’s very hard to cash out on this app. During cash out, you have to pay $5 fee +3% transactions fee and max payout per day is $150.
Advice to new users:
- do not mass book reservations
- fill bids only
- don’t try to book reservations online, you need connections and call the restaurant
After putting in about 40 hours of work, I’ve made about $750 sale on this platform but gotten paid $0. Take this with a grain of salt.

I’m sorry to hear these negative experiences some of you have experienced. There is definitely a learning curve. The main reason the listings are not selling is that too many new sellers have been listing hundreds if not thousands of reservations for sale. If there are 30 reservations listed for sale at the same restaurant on the same night maybe 2 will sell. That will leave 28 unsold reservations and if you want to sell you would have to be the lowest price listed. The value is gone if you have to drop your price to $10.
Several sellers have offered training but sadly no one seemed interested.
The money you have earned is yours but you just need to keep your numbers up.

I’m sorry to see your numbers so low with 397 unsold and zero sold. You should reach out to whoever sponsored you as a concierge intern. That person should be happy to help you get moving in the right direction. I have sponsored a few people and I always take the time to help them with their sales.

Yeah I did exactly what you just said not to do. Mass booked. Tried different markets. Got black listed on Resy. Found other oddball places people keep looking for but STILL have not made one sale. And it will statistically take me 100% of the next 100 sales to get paid per this new sell-through rule. I used this as a fun little side challenge during my down time at work and if any of the 600+ connections I added ever take off, it might be worth the “claim” Lol but to hear you say after $750 in sales you have yet to see a penny, I wish I had this advice 2 months ago myself before I made the mental commitment 🙄
